A/N: This is going under MAJOR editing. Sorry for the wait, I haven't updated this in about a year. I'm not really a part of the fandom anymore, but I felt bad leaving this story abandoned.
Beatrice Prior took a shaky breath, and leaned her head against the wall behind her, wishing that she could stop time so that she didn't have to take the test. She was terrified; terrified of getting Abnegation as a result, and even more so at the possibility of the test resulting in something else. Something more daring. Something more dangerous.
She wiped the palms of her hands on her dull gray pants for the third time in the past minute, then brought her hand to her mouth to bite at her nails, something she did when she was anxious.
"You're nervous," Uriah stated, sensing her fear. She quickly took her hand from her mouth and set it at her side, glaring at the boy next to her.
"No," she muttered. "Are you?"
"No!" Uriah said, almost too defensively.
She decided to let it slide for now, knowing full well what he was thinking, for she'd known him for as long as she could remember. He was thinking about transferring. To where, she had no idea.
"Uriah Pedrad!" a voice called. Uriah's head snapped up to the source of the sound: a Dauntless woman with streaks in her hair. Uriah glanced back at Beatrice nervously, then walked over to the woman, who was tapping her foot impatiently.
"Good luck!" Beatrice called after him. He gave her one last nervous smile, then disappeared into the hallway, the dauntless woman following close behind. She earned a few weird looks from her peers. A pair of Candors giggled and started whispering to each other. Then she realized her mistake. It was not abnegation-like to yell. She could feel her face burning, so she looked down at the ground.
Then, she glanced over at to the boy next to her who was sitting on the ground, his back against the wall.
"Zeke, are you okay?" she asked him. "It's really not like you to stay silent." Zeke did not reply for a moment. Then he lowered his voice and said, "I think I am going to transfer to Dauntless."
She stared at him for a few seconds then laughed, earning more strange looks from the kids from other factions. She chose to ignore them this time.
"Zeke, you've always been Dauntless. I've been able to see it in you since second grade!" He looked at her strangely.
"Seriously, it's that obvious?" he asked.
"Yeah. Uriah and I were just talking about it the other day!"
"Well I never thought-"
"Zeke Pedrad," a candor woman cuts him off.
"Gotta go," he muttered.
He stood up, and headed towards the doorway. then, he hesitated, and turned back towards Beatrice and shot her a quick thumbs up to say "Good luck."
"Now would be great," said the Candor woman, rolling her eyes. Zeke grinned sheepishly, before following her.
I'm next, she thought nervously.
She looked up at Caleb's stoic face. He didn't show even an ounce of anxiety or fear. Of course he didn't. Why would he? He was the perfect abnegation.
She didn't know how long she sat there in silence, waiting for her turn when the Dauntless from before called out, "Beatrice Prior."
She got up and once again wiped her sweaty hands on her pants.
