Chapter 28. Whiteout!

HICCUP: No. No.

[Hiccup and Toothless can't maneuver - they're dead in the air. The giant club tail CLIPS Toothless, TEARING Hiccup from the harness and sending him tumbling against the backdrop of the fast-approaching fireball. Toothless STRUGGLES with all his might to reach the unconscious Hiccup. But the fireball swallows them both.]

NO! " yelled Elsa, and it started to snow. Everyone came to the realization that it was Elsa making it cold, and the Duke started muttering something about sorcery.

ON THE GROUND

[The Vikings watch in horror as Hiccup and Toothless disappear into the boiling inferno.]

NO! " Astrid screamed, and she began to cry. Hiccup held her tightly, trying to reassure her that he was still there.

She paid no heed, and cried uncontrollably into his shoulder. Val wrapped her arms around her son from behind and clutched him tightly, tears streaming down her face. Toothless placed his head in Hiccup's lap, and curled around the three, along with and Tuff stared at the screen in shock, and Tuff put his arm around his sister, and Barf and Belch put their head on the Twin's shoulders. Meatlug curled around Fishlegs as tears fell from his eyes. As for Snotlout, he was, yes, crying. His head was in his hands, and his shoulders were shaking uncontrollably. Hookfang curled around the distraught rider, and nudged him comfortingly. And with Stoick? The great chief had finally broken. He had only broken one other time in his life, and that was when his wife had been taken away from him. This was much harder. Stoick was shaking, and tears kept falling and falling from his eyes. Gobber put an arm around his best friend, tears shimmering in his own eyes.

As for Most audience were all silent, waiting in suspense for the next scene to load.

While Tears threaten to spill over the other Vikings and guests faces as they watch the scene with horror and sorrow, Hiccup still looks indifferent knowing Toothless will survive the encounter while Toothless looks ready to cry himself- he hopes he can get to Hiccup on time!

Astrid sniffled, wiping her eyes. Hiccup just looked down, trying to comprehend everything. So he was dead. Honestly, that wasn't a bad way to go, but still.

Managing to stand up, Stoick asked weakly.

So this is it? This is what you brought us here for? To show my son's death? " He asked.

I stood up in front of them, shaking my head. As my gaze was solemn, but not sad.

Who said this is it? " I snorted.

Hiccup looked at Astrid, who suddenly looked hopeful. He questioned.

So… the movie isn't over yet? " He asked.

I nodded, smirking.

Even though they still had hope, everyone was worried-dragons included. Astrid bit the inside of her cheek, glancing out of the corner of her eye at Hiccup. She felt silly for checking to see if he was still there, but making sure he was okay lifted a little bit of weight off her chest.

[The sound fades and the screen washes out to white. Flecks of ash lazily floats to the ground, and the shape of Stoick appears through the mist.]

The room was silent, and it felt like a dead weight was hanging over everyone's heads.

STOICK: Hiccup? Hiccup!?

[Stoick appears, searching desperately. Everything is scorched. Even the ground is smoking from the terrible heat.]

The temperature continued dropping until everyone but the Vikings noticed.

STOICK: (CONT'D) Hiccup!? Son!?

[Through the ash, Stoick the motionless silhouette of Toothless.]

Another sob was heard from the father. Gobber sniffed and gave Stoick a side-hug.

The room was quiet.

: (CONT'D) (GRAVE) Hiccup.

[He hurries to the dragon's side. Toothless is roughed up, but conscious. His scorched saddle, however, is vacant. Stoick looks to the sky in despair. He buckles at the knees, overwhelmed by the loss.]

Even though they knew this had already happened, everyone became somber.

STOICK: Oh son...I did this…

[Astrid pushes through the crowd, her eyes welling up. Followed by Gobber. They flank Stoick as he kneels, slumped over. Behind them, a ring of Vikings form, keeping a respectful distance.]

All of the Vikings in the room took off their helmets in respect and bowed their heads.

I smile at this as They finally see.

[As the dust and smoke clear, a ring of wild dragons can also be seen, gathering just behind and between the Vikings. Toothless stirs and groggily rolls his head toward Stoick. Their eyes meet.]

STOICK: (CONT'D) I'm so sorry…

There's the magic word! " said Eugene, smiling a bit.

Toothless raised his head to the chief and Stoick returned his gaze with tear-filled eyes.

Toothless grunted and nodded his head at the man, respect showing in his green eyes.

Stoick returned the nod.

[Toothless unfolds his wings, revealing Hiccup, unconscious, clutched safely against his chest. Stoick's eyes widen.]

Everyone gasped in shock, but no one cheered.

Hiccup wasn't out of the woods yet.

He does love apologies. " Hiccup laughs as the village and dragons all freeze, hoping for a miracle, anything, just please... Let him live!

STOICK: Hiccup.

[He scoops Hiccup into his arms. Listens to his heart. Bursts into relieved laughter.]

Why is he laughing? " asked Tuffnut. Everyone groaned.

STOICK: He's alive!

Astrid hugged Hiccup tightly, then punched his arm.

That's for scaring me. " she said angrily. Hiccup rolled his eyes and grinned as his mother hugged him tightly.

STOICK: (TO TOOTHLESS) You brought him back alive!

The tears turn into that of joy as Hiccup is bombarded by hugs from relieved humans and dragons before he is sweeped into a tight embrace from one person

Dad. " Hiccup gasps as the air is cut from his lungs by Stoick, who sheepishly puts him down still grinning.

Son, you're okay you,re… " His face into lines of strictness as the mood sombres

Never, I repeat never, risk you're life EVER again! " Hiccup laughs.

I can't promise that, Dad. " He says as Stoick laughs too but then Valka join in and jokes.

Then I guess you won't be leaving the house any time soon will you. " Hiccups face falls into that of a panicked look as his mom said that.

But... Flying… " Hiccup pleaded.

Nope. " Hiccup's pleas filled the room, much to everyone's amusement as everyone slowly sits back down and both Valka and Stoick laughs as Hiccup gives up promising he will get out as he returns to Toothless' waiting wings.

[The crowd roars. Followed by the dragons. The Vikings look around to find themselves surrounded. Stoick leans close to Toothless, meeting him eye to eye.]

STOICK: (CONT'D) (PRIVATELY) Thank you... for saving my son.

Stoick and Toothless' eyes meet and they share a mutual understanding as Toothless gives him a gummy smile, Stoick grins at him- happy he now had a connection with the one who made his son the happiest.

[Gobber looks Hiccup up and down.]

GOBBER: Well, you know... most of him.

Everyone but Hiro, Baymax, Aunt Cass, and most of the people from the future, frowned in confusion.

What?! " Cried the hall but everyone from the future of HTTYD as they all turned to a whole Hiccup.

What? How am I supposed to know what happened? " He asks, his hands in the air as they all turn back to the screen.

[Stoick glances back at him. Gobber shrugs, redirecting his eyes toward…]

Wait? What happened? " Stoick asked, and many people agreed with him.

What did Gobber mean? " Astrid asked, concerned.
