Chapter 55. The Dragon's Sanctuary and The King Of Dragons.
EXT. ARCTIC SKY - NIGHT (MIDNIGHT SUN)
[Stoick and Gobber search over the frigid waves that lap against the pack ice.]
STOICK: Boar-headed! Just like his mother! She could never stay put either.
Stoick and Valka, cuddling, grinned at each other As H, Hicc and Hiccup smiled. Everyone else laughed.
While The people from the future of this Timeline were silent..
[Gobber glances over at Stoick, who's hunched over, brow furrowed and solemn.]
GOBBER: Ah, he's just twenty. And a Viking. I mean, could there be a worse combination? Ha! When I think of how stubborn and senseless YOU were back in the day... well, not much has changed, actually.
Everyone laughed while Drago sneered.
"That's True!" Laugh Spitelout.
STOICK: You know what he's like. He won't give up, Gobber. And if Hiccup finds Drago, before we find him…
"Stubbornness issues." Confirmed Theta Simply. ( @Issy5316 )
"That we can agree on!" I Added.
GOBBER: Bah! NOTHING can hurt Hiccup so long as that Night Fury's around. It's a Night Fury!
"He has a point!" Fangirled, F, Fish and Legs excitedly but then Drago smirked.
"Are you sure, Dragon Master?" He hissed but surprisingly he was ignored.
"Remind me again to Torture him after this viewing." I whispered.
"Don't worry we Had Epsilon set up the Torture Chamber." Grin Sigma Darkly.
"This will be fun!" Smirk a giggling Theta.
[Framed by a hole in the ice, a glistening object bobs on the surface below. Stoick squints and CIRCLES BACK, leading Skullcrusher in a DIVE toward it. Stoick SNAGS it out of the water. It's Hiccup's helmet. Gobber pulls alongside Stoick, seeing his look of dread. Stoick holds the helmet out for his dragon to SMELL.]
STOICK: Find him, Skullcrusher. Find him. Skullcrusher SNIFFS the helmet like a bloodhound, ROARS, and suddenly CHANGES HEADING.
"Skullcrusher, huh?" Said Eugene. "I like it."
"I still can't believe I also have a dragon! Also why wouldn't I? I AM the chief!" Laughs Stoick as he Hugged as little Family who were all laughing with him as The Older Hiccups and the other people from the future of this Timeline look at them sadly in secret.
INT. DRAGON MOUNTAIN - TUNNEL - DAWN
[CLOSE ON Hiccup, flustered, winded, chasing VALKA through tightly winding corridors.]
HICCUP: Hold on! Wait just a minute! Come back here!
VALKA: This way. Come.
Everyone started chuckling.
HICCUP: You can't just say something like that and run off! You're my mother?! I mean, what the --
"Language boy-o!" Gobber chuckled, while H, Hicc and Hiccup all just threw him a dirty look.
HICCUP: Do you grasp how INSANE it sounds?!
Some were starting to laugh out loud. H, Hicc and Hiccup and Valka smiled at each other.
"You know, from this point of View I kinda Agreed." Jack nodded.
"Yeah I would Probably do the same if my parents were alive." Sigh Anna Sadly which Kristoff gave a Comfortable Squeeze on her hand and she smiles at him kindly on which The Ice Harvester finds Cute that causes him and her to look away and Blush.
HICCUP: (BEAT) I have questions!
VALKA: Come. Quickly!
[Hiccup follows her over the difficult terrain. He tries to clamber over a tall rock, unsuccessfully.]
"Ha, Hiccup! You can't even climb over a simple rock!" Laughs Pre Teen Snotlout.
"Shut up! Snot-face!" A, Hissed and punches him in a not happy place with her axe. ( Pre HTTYD Astrid. )
HICCUP: Where have you been all this time?
"Saving Dragons?" Jack asked.
"Living with them for 20 Years?" Shrugged Kristoff.
"Eh dealing with a Madman and his Dragon Trappers in abusing these amazing creatures for world domination?" T, ( Pre Teen Tuffnut ) Shrugged, giving him the look that says. "What The Hell?" Which he noticed and asked. "Why's everyone looking at me like that?" They all rolled their eyes at him and thought that there's the Tuffnut they all know and love.
[Toothless boosts him over. Hiccup lands on the other side.]
H, Hicc and Hiccup all blushed, as their Toothlesses chortled, and Hiro fell to the floor, laughing hysterically.
HICCUP: What've you been doing?!
"Eh didn't we already answer that!" Laugh Jack.
"Yeah dude Stop being oblivious!" Joked Eugene as The Hiccups rolled their eyes at them playfully while also grinning.
HICCUP: They said you were dead! Everyone thinks you were eaten by...
[Hiccup trails off as he enters...]
INT. DRAGON MOUNTAIN - OASIS - CONTINUOUS
[... a stadium-sized chamber teeming with ferns, waterfalls, hot springs and THOUSANDS of new DRAGONS. Hiccup wanders in, basking in the amazing sight: a dome of sweating ice capping a geothermal micro climate, filled with dragons of every shape and kind. He spots Valka clinging to a basalt overhang, watching him.]
HICCUP: Dragons ( He added silently in awe. ) This is where you've been for twenty years?
"Wow Hiccup, for a Smart guy you're very slow at the Obvious." Snickers Eugene Playfully.
"Well, can't really Blame the guy though." Shrugged Kristoff with a Smile.
"Yeah, I mean He must have been too shocked to not even see the Obvious." Stated Jack.
"That's one of the point of this scene guys." Chief Hiccup told them.
"Yeah we are so shocked, not even Realizing that we're already staring at the obvious point of where our mother has been for the last 20 years." Older Hiccup Gestured to his other four Younger selves.
[She nods from her perch.]
HICCUP: You've been rescuing them.
H, Hicc and Hiccup looked from their present mother to the one on the screen.
[She nods again, this time with a smile.]
HICCUP: Unbelievable.
"Took the word out of our mouths." Awe Hiro.
"Definitely." Said Jack.
"They do move in herds." Eugene proclaimed in awe.
( Note: Anyone got the reference? )
VALKA: You're not upset?
"Well, Upset is not the right word for it." Hummed Tadashi.
"Yeah I think Surprised would be the right word for it." Shrugged Wasabi.
"That's an Understatement, I mean It's probably shocking to know that your Surprisingly Not dead mother has been alive for the last 20 years and is a Dragon Vigilante of sort." Stated Gogo.
HICCUP: What? No. I don't know. It's a bit much to get my head around, to be frank. It's not every day you find out your mother is some kind of crazy, feral, vigilante dragon lady.
The Vikings chuckled at his jokes and sarcasm while Gogo Blinked her eyes in shock at her words being almost accurately repeated on screen.
"Wait! Didn't Gogo just say that a while ago?!" Asked Snot.
"Wow gogo mind you stop repeating Hiccy's Words!" Joke Hiro and he got a light punch in the Shoulder.
As for A, Ast and Astrid all smiled slightly at the reunion between mother and son. Of course Hiccup ruined it slightly by calling his mother a "crazy, feral, vigilante, dragon lady"
[Valka chuckles, and using her dragon's wing, lowers herself to the ground like a skilled acrobat.]
VALKA: At least I'm not boring... right?
"No you're definitely not!" Laugh A Happy Stoick and the Vikings of Old Berk agreed.
HICCUP: I suppose there is that... (feeble, trailing off) ... one... specific... thing
[Excited dragons rush up to greet Hiccup and Toothless. Hiccup pets a few, marvelling at the vast dragon utopia before him.]
VALKA: Do you like it?
"That's another word which is a bit complicated to describe." Stated Eugene.
"It sure does." Nodded Hiro.
HICCUP: I don't have the words.
"Same Here dude, Same Here." Muttered Kristoff.
[Toothless SNARLS in annoyance as the curious, smothering dragons SNIFF every part of him.]
T, Tooth and Toothless all hissed at the screen, Cloudjumper chortling. Elsa wrinkled her nose, trying to keep in laughter unbefitting a queen.
VALKA: Can I... ? He's beautiful!
[She reaches out to stroke Toothless, who PURRS at her touch.]
VALKA: Incredible. He might very well be the last of his kind.
H, Hicc and Hiccup's smiles dropped, while their Toothless all crooned sadly.
[She inspects his talons as Toothless rolls onto his back, nuzzling her.]
VALKA: And look, he's your age! No wonder you get along so well.
"Cool, we're the same age buddy!" All Laughed by H, Hicc and Hiccup.
"That's an Interesting Knowledge of knowing your dragons Age!" Squeals F, Fish and Legs.
"I know right!" Said Fish Excitedly.
[Hiccup smiles, astounded by Toothless' affection for Valka. She checks his teeth. They recede into the gums at her touch.]
VALKA: And retractable teeth? Ah! How did you manage to-
HICCUP: -I found him in the woods. He was shot down and wounded.
Both Hicc and Hiccup all glanced nervously at Val. Would she accept them after she found out? Valka smiled reassuringly at them. "It's okay." She whispered. "I saw." Causing both the two Hiccups all gave a sigh of relief.
[She winces and offers a sympathetic nod as she stands to caress a few of her own rescued dragons.]
VALKA: This Snafflefang lost his leg to one of Drago Bludvist's iron traps. This Raincutter had her wing sliced by razor netting. And this poor Hobblegrunt was blinded by a tree snare... then left to die alone and scared. (re: Toothless' tail) And what of this? Did Drago or his trappers do this, too?
Drago sneered at the injured dragons. "Serves them right." He said. "The beasts deserve to be- WOAH!" He ducked as an arrow embedded itself into the wooden beam next to his face. Everyone followed the path of the arrow, to see an angry Moon pointing a bow, the second arrow already notched, at him.
"You are VERY fortunate I wasn't shooting to kill." She hissed.
"Or Burn you To crysp!" Theta Made a Fire out of her open palm. "Now sit in the Chair of Shame like a good boy, and shut your ugly face." Drago glared at Her and Lucy.
HICCUP: Heh. Well, crazy thing is... I'm actually the one who shot him down.
[She glares, confused.]
HICCUP: It's okay though. He got me back. (playfully, to Toothless) Right, bud? You couldn't save all of me, could you? You just had to make it even. So... peg leg!
Everyone chuckled.
[Hiccup rattles his prosthetic leg with a smirk.]
"How can you joke about that?" Asked Rapunzel and Hicc and Hiccup shrugged while H, still getting used to not losing his left leg.
[Valka observes their playful rapport with curiosity.]
VALKA: What did your father think of your Night Fury friend?
HICCUP: He didn't take it all that well.
[She mutters in agreement.]
HICCUP: But then... he changed. They all did. Pretty soon everyone back home had dragons of their own.
[She smiles at Toothless, dismissive.]
VALKA: If only it were possible.
Valka mentally kicked herself. 'Please, please believe him.' she thought.
While most of the vikings looked guilty because they never listened.
HICCUP: No, really, I -
VALKA: Believe me, I tried, as well. But people are not capable of change, Hiccup. Some of us... were just born different.
EXT. BERK VILLAGE - NIGHT FLASHBACK
[Dragons sweep from the sky, blowing FIRE, carrying off sheep and dried fish. Vikings chase them down, hurling weapons.]
VALKA (V.O.): Berk was a land of kill or be killed, but I believed peace was possible.
[A Viking is about to finish off a felled dragon, but Valka chases up to him and tugs at his arm.]
VALKA: Stop! You'll only make it worse!
[The dragon takes wing, escaping to safety... leaving the Viking warrior glaring at Valka.]
VALKA (V.O.): It was a very unpopular opinion.
Drago grumbled his agreement.
[As he rushes off, Valka hears a clatter and whirls around to see a DRAGON (Cloudjumper) clawing its way through the roof of a house.]
VALKA: Hiccup!
INT. STOICK'S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS FLASHBACK CONTINUED
[Cloudjumper enters the house through the hole in the roof, sniffing out a baby's cradle in the corner. Valka rushes in, panicked.]
VALKA (V.O.): One night, a dragon broke into our house, finding you in the cradle.
[Valka draws a sword quietly, slipping up to the dragon, only to find it huddled protectively over the cradle as BABY HICCUP innocently plays with one of its talons.]
Cloudjumper along with Hicc and Hiccup all stared at each other.
As for H, he touched his scar and said. " So. That's what happened that night, and how I got my scar!" H Gape surprised.
"Nice one Hiccup!" T ( Pre Teen Tuffnut awe.
"Man I wish we also had our own Battle scar as a Baby!" Exclaimed R ( Pre Teen Ruffnut.
VALKA (V.O.): I rushed to protect you, but what I saw... was proof of everything I believed.
[Valka's careful approach causes a floorboard to squeak. Spooked, Cloudjumper whips around to face her, accidentally SCRATCHING baby Hiccup's chin. Their eyes meet. Valka lowers her sword, transfixed.]
VALKA (V.O.): This wasn't a vicious beast, but an intelligent, gentle creature, whose soul reflected my own.
[Stoick's AXE spins through the air between them, barely missing Cloudjumper and planting into a pillar.]
Stoick nearly roared in frustration. If only he had gotten there seconds earlier! The war could have ended, and they could have been a family!
STOICK: Valka, run!
[Alarmed, Cloudjumper WHIRLS around at Stoick and BLASTS! Stoick DIVES out of the way as the FIRE SPLATTERS against the wall, burning a hole and setting the room ablaze. The dragon moves toward Stoick, but Valka grabs hold.]
VALKA: Don't!
[It turns to face her again, locking eyes, agitated.]
STOICK: Hold on!
[Stoick dashes through the fire toward Hiccup and pulls him out of the cradle. He pulls his axe from the pillar...]
VALKA (O.S.): No! Stoick!
[... but in a WHOOSH of smoke and embers, the dragon and Valka are GONE.]
STOICK: VALKA! VALKA (DISTANT) Stoick!
[Stoick and baby Hiccup watch helplessly as the dragon spirits Valka away into the night sky.]
STOICK: Valka...
[ON BABY HICCUP'S FACE, with the fresh nick on his chin...]
Baymax tried to find the baby to hug it, but couldn't. He grumbled.
MATCH CUT TO: INT. DRAGON MOUNTAIN - DAWN PRESENT DAY
[HICCUP'S FACE, with the matching scar.]
VALKA: You and your father nearly died that night, all because I couldn't kill a dragon.
HICCUP: Yeah, it runs in the family.
Everyone laughed.
VALKA: It broke my heart to stay away, but I believed you'd be safer if I did.
[Hiccup considers this, then raises his eyes to hers, seeing the sting of remorse.]
HICCUP: How did you survive?
VALKA: Oh, Cloudjumper never meant to harm me. He must've thought I belonged here...
[She leads him to the edge of a raised natural terrace, overlooking the steamy oasis with its flowing hot spring waterfalls. Half-submerged in the warm lake below, a massive white dragon with pronounced, mammoth-like tusks rests benevolently on the banks, his stately countenance like that of a lion surrounded by his pride.]
"Whoa..." Whispered H, Valka laughed at his awestruck expression. Eret started, open mouthed, at his first real sight of the great dragon.
"Wait, Look how Big it is, it's almost as big as the Female Muto!" A, Gape at its sheer size.
"A, Is right it's almost as big as the Female MUTO!" Gulp F.
"Don't worry guys, the Muto we saw is different from this Alpha because this one is gentle and trained by Valka." Heather Said suddenly which caught the teens attention.
"Wait, what do you mean 'this Alpha'?" A, Ask.
"Are you telling us that there's more than one?" H, had asked as well as Everyone in the future flinched on which Confuses them.
"Now Hold on a minute guys, she didn't directly say there's another one." I said. 'Yet'. I added mentally.
"Yeah, she's actually pointing out the Red Death." Half lied Beta.
"Their right, I'm actually Meant The Red Death." Heather nod secretly in thanks for stopping her revealing the next scene.
"Well come to think of it, it does look slightly bigger than the Female MUTO making it have an Almost accurate size to Godzilla." Hiro pointed out.
VALKA: In the home of the great Bewilderbeast. The alpha species. One of very few that still exist.
(BEAT)
Every nest has its queen, but this is the king of all dragons.
"The King of Dragons?!" F, Fish and Legs all squealed in excitement as the two older ones looked at their Hiccups.
"Hey Hicc you don't think that this is the Actual King of Dragons Johann Is after?" Fish ask in a whisper.
"Come to think of it, The Cave maze below Berserker island almost had a similar ice cavern in this one." Hicc whispered back.
"Do you guys think it could be this Bewilderbeast, that was secretly nesting on Berserker Island?" Ast asked as well quietly.
"That's what we needed to know." Scowl Hicc.
As for Chief and Older Hiccups they smirk already knowing what the RTTE gang are talking about, same with Heather and the rest from the Pre Hidden World Timeline.
[Dragons land and bow reverentially to the Bewilderbeast. Valka gestures to the spiked ice ceiling that acts as a sweating greenhouse.]
VALKA: With his icy breath, this graceful giant built our nest. A safe haven for dragons everywhere.
[On HICCUP, putting it together.]
HICCUP: Wait, that's the ice-spitter? He's responsible for all that destruction
VALKA: He protects us. We all live under his care. And his command.
[They pass an eggshell-littered NURSERY. HATCHLINGS dart out of it, greeting them excitedly and inciting chaos. Toothless is overwhelmed by their manic picking and scratching. Cloudjumper baulks and sends them scattering.]
T, Tooth and Toothless all rubbed their heads against Cloudjumper appreciatively.
VALKA: All but the babies, of course...
[The hatchlings clamber on top of the Bewilderbeast and play on his massive tusks, despite his authority. Valka laughs.]
VALKA:... who listen to no one.
"That sounds important, somehow..." said Tadashi.
"Yeah Way too Important, Like a Foreshadowing." Hiro told Tadashi.
"Yeah, Kinda like us!" Grinned T, ( Pre Teen Tuffnut. )
"Yeah that's right! We don't listen to no one but us!" Smirk R ( Pre Teen Ruffnut. )
"Doesn't it also makes the both of you Babies as well?" A, Asked Sarcastically.
"Yes!" The twins said, causing a chorus of slapping sounds for them missing the Sarcasms.
[The Bewilderbeast lets out a frosty SNORT, sending off the youngsters to spread more mischief. Now awakened, The Bewilderbeast raises his gargantuan head to take a closer look at Hiccup with it's massive Eyes as Valka bows in his presence. As does Toothless.]
VALKA: I've lived among them for twenty years, Hiccup, learning their ways, discovering their secrets...
[He acknowledges Hiccup with another icy snort, slicking back Hiccup's hair in a frosty veneer. Valka laughs.]
VALKA: He likes you.
Both Jack and Elsa watched the dragon in interest. Even a dragon had their power!
Seeing Hiccup's New Hairdo causes some laughter.
"Wow, Nice Hairdo Hiccup." Joke Hiro.
"Yeah, But leave white to Jack it doesn't suit you!" Cackle Eugene.
"Yeah man, Stop copying my hair style!" Joke Jack as well which cause most people to laugh at the embarrassed Hiccups.
HICCUP: Wow.
[She chuckles, delighting in his awe.]
VALKA: You must be hungry.
HICCUP: Uh, yeah. I could eat.
VALKA: Good. It's feeding time.
"You make it sound like you are a dragon yourself!" said Kristoff. "How long have you been away from civilization, exactly?"
Anna smacked him. "You're one to talk!"
[Toothless tucks himself beneath Cloudjumper's wing, trying to befriend him, but Cloudjumper isn't having any of it. He grimaces and follows Valka out.]
Cloudjumper rolled his eyes at the Night Fury's childlike antics.
