After several hours the detective began to wake up.
As soon as she opened her eyes, after getting used to the light in the room and looking around slowly, she noticed the sleeping figure of Jay standing there beside her with a blanket on.
She initially smiled, she loved watching him sleep. But then she wondered if he was okay.
She too, like the detective, thought before of her partner instead of herself.
Listening to his breathing she sensed that something was wrong.
In the meantime, a nurse had come to check on her and take her to do the CT scan. She didn't know she would find her awake.
They were waiting for the temperature to rise a bit before testing her.
Jay's hand was moved to his legs and she was taken out to go upstairs for the CT scan.
As they headed for the elevators Hailey noticed Will and faintly called him.
- Hey, how nice to see you awake. How do you feel? - asked the doctor.
- I'm fine - she replied - Will take a look at Jay?
- Why what's he got? - he asked worriedly
- I seem to breathe strangelyv- she said - and then despite the noises in the room he did not wake up. -
- Don't worry, he'll just be tired, - Dr. Halstead said, trying to reassure Hailey.
She cared for her partner instead of herself.
Will still played the part of the quiet person, but in fact he was worried. Jay not waking up? Deep sleep? But when ever. Even the slightest noise woke him. It had been like this since he was little.
Once the nurse and detective got on the elevator he ran into his brother's room.
Jay was there, he really slept like a log.
The red-haired doctor decided not to wake him right away. He gently moved the blanket and placed his stethoscope across his chest across the shirt. His heartbeat was regular, but his breathing was actually too shallow.
He then decided to wake him up.
- Hey little brother, wake up, - he told him.
Initially he didn't open his eyes, but after being called a couple of times his blue eyes finally saw Will's hazel ones.
- What happens? Where is Hailey? - he asked in a very hoarse voice and with great concern not seeing her colleague.
What happened to her partner while he slept?
Her throat was on fire, but as always she didn't show how she felt.
- Quiet, she went up to do the tac. You? All right? Are you OK? asked Dr. Halstead
- I'm fine,- he said and immediately coughed to clear her throat. This caused severe pain in the breastbone and he made a small face trying to hide it from his brother.
But he had noticed it and therefore he said:
- Jay I want you to do an X-ray, you may have broken ribs.- said Will
- No, I'm fine. - he said
- Ok, if you're okay then why are you afraid of doing them? - Said the doctor trying to take him in check.
- I'm not afraid and if I say I'm fine it's because it's the truth.- said an angry Jay
Will stood for a moment staring at his brother. He was behaving strangely.
- Okay, let's make these plates so you can convince me that I have nothing and leave me alone .- he said with a sigh.
