The route Jay took when he went for a run lasted about an hour. The race allowed him to unload the tension accumulated at work such as, for example, that for the kidnapping of Hailey.

He had promised the detectives that he would go to the hospital around nine in the morning, even though she had advised him to take it slow and go later.

The boy, however, had been adamant about the time.

Also, the night before, when Upton was taken to the hospital, the whole team had gone to see her.

Sergeant Voight, instead, had stopped at the office for various problems, but had spoken to Halstead through Antonio's phone. He was worried about his boy, he wanted to hear his voice and understand how he really felt.

As always, when asked, Jay said he felt fine, but the sergeant still gave him and Hailey a couple of days off.

More than anything else he had ordered them.

The detective that morning had woken up at 5:00 and as always at 5:30 he was already under the house running his usual path.

This time, however, there was something different, strange.

He felt sluggish, tired. Running had the effect of distracting him and releasing some of the tension, but it wasn't the same as always.

He usually gave him the charge to face the day, but this time he didn't.

Despite everything he finished his journey taking longer than usual and back home he took a shower and then prepared breakfast.

He just made a coffee, he didn't have much appetite. He had also promised Will to wake him up to keep him from being late for work.

After washing, however, he felt tired, destroyed and so he leaned back on the bed and without even realizing it he fell asleep.
