Will had asked Jay to wake him up to have breakfast together before going to work. He knew that the detective would wake up before him to go run.
He hoped he could take something together so he could talk a little. The kidnapping of Hailey and almost losing her had certainly left a mark on him. Although he was now used to dangerous situations but having his brother near him when he wanted to talk, he had always benefited the detective.
The doctor woke up with a start that morning and immediately got up having seen that it was 8:20. At nine he was supposed to be in the hospital for the shift.
But what was going on? Why hadn't his brother woken him up? Could he have gotten sick?
He immediately rushed out of the room to check where Jay was.
The house was quiet, Will looked into the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom... Nothing, he wasn't there.
It was at that moment that he heard a slight snore coming from the bedroom.
The detective was there in his bed that he was sleeping soundly.
The doctor realized that he had gone for a run, the clothes he had worn were placed in the dirty laundry basket. He had also taken a shower, wearing only briefs and a short-sleeved t-shirt.
Will took a blanket and put it over him. The sleeping Halstead's breathing was shallow. The doctor knew about the injured ribs, but he had noticed that it wasn't just that. Jay seemed to be cold, had a stuffy nose that occasionally ran. After covering him then silently as he entered he left the room promising to take a look at his brother as soon as he arrived at the ER from Hailay.
Will got ready in a hurry and before leaving he wrote a message to his brother:
"Little brother, I'll wait for you in the hospital. As soon as you arrive, look for me so maybe we can have a coffee together and even chat ... I'm leaving, I didn't want to wake you up, you were sleeping so well. See you later".
The doctor made no mention of his understanding that something was wrong. He would have checked him later in the hospital, if he had written to him about the visit, knowing him, he would have done everything to avoid her by saying he was fine.
