Next chapter! I tried to update pretty fast again, because school is starting soon I'm not sure if I'll update again before then or when I'll next update. Anyway. This chapter is about Corbin Serpico. This chapter was so much fun to write, I hope you guys like it too. Here it is!

We were eating dinner when it happened. Sylvester set a canned of hot peaches in front of me, along with a thick slice of brown bread. Real, fresh food was hard to come by lately. I wrinkled my nose and sniffed tentatively at the bread. The bread was old; it had probably been sitting in a food storage of some kind for years. Maybe it had been frozen so it wouldn't mold. I wasn't sure. Sylvester had obviously tried to heat it up, but the edges were burnt almost black. Only the sound of crunching bread and forks scraping the metal cans filled the silence.

The smell reached me just before the sound did. It was the smell of burning flesh. Then I heard it. A big boom shook the building, plaster and dirt falling from the ceiling like snow. The sound took away my hearing for a moment- I didn't hear my brother yelling at me to get out of the house. I couldn't see him through the thick smoke that filled the room. It was only his rough grip on my shoulder that brought me back to reality. In one hand he held my sister, Suzie, and my other brother, Maestro held onto his arm tightly. Sylvester moved my arm to his shoulder.

Somehow Sylvester was able to pull us all out the door. The only way I knew we were outside was when we walked through the doorway. It almost seemed worse out here than it had been inside. The screams were piercing and painful, and loud.

Then the panic hit me. What had just happened? I couldn't see or breath, there was too much smoke in the air. My fingers dug hard into Sylvester's shoulder and I bit my lip to keep from crying.

"Where are Mommy and Daddy?" I barely heard Suzie say.

"It doesn't matter right now!" Sylvester growled. "We have to get out of here!"

"Go to the cave!" Maestro supplied helpfully. The cave was where we had always gone to play when we were younger. A ditch ran from the end of the shiny Capitol street right into the cave. It wasn't far from our house, less than a mile away, and on the border between District 1 and the Capitol. But even less than a mile seemed too far away right now.

Sylvester nodded, panting with the weight of supporting all of us. I helpfully detached myself and just grabbed the edge of his peacock feather shirt.

"Get down!" I wasn't sure who'd said the words, but I flew to the ground. Suzie and Maestro landed on the ground just beside me. I listened closely for another thump, for Sylvester to duck with us. But the sound didn't come. Instead, I heard the sound of gunshot and looked up just to see blood blossoming on Sylvester's chest. His eyes went wide, and he gasped for air, falling to his knees. I crawled over to him, wiping at the tears that were falling from my eyes. He grasped my hand.

"Get… get to the cave…" He whispered in my ear. "You… survive…" Sylvester's hand went limp in mine, and he keeled over on top of Suzie.

Suzie's scream was bloodcurdling as Maestro tugged her out from beneath Sylvester's body. She buried her head in Maestro's chest, sobbing. It took everything I had not to fall to the ground and break down then and there. I just knew we had to get to safety first.

"Which way is the cave?" I screamed. I couldn't tell where we were anymore. With the smoke and the rubble everything looked the same.

Maestro looked around before nodding his head towards the left. That was where the cave was, I knew. He was always right about this stuff. He'd always been good at directions.

Then, another explosion shook the earth. My face hit the dirt and I choked. Pain flooded through my limbs, but I ignored it. If we could just make it to the cave…

I wasn't sure how I did it, but I found Maesto and Suzie and pulled them in the direction Maestro had pointed to. When the earth sloped beneath me, I knew I'd reached the ditch. Maestro rolled down the small hill, limp. Suzie kneeled down, shaking her head and burying her face in her hands. This was as far as we would go. This was as far as we could go.

"Maestro." My voice cracked as I shaked my brother. I looked his up and down, and everything spun. His legs were gone.

I ripped off my shirt and tried to stop the bleeding by pressing it to the wound. Blood seeped through the green shirt, onto my fingertips. I started at my blood stained fingers for a moment before closing my eyes and folding up the shirt and tying it as tight as I could around his waist. I'd heard of this before. A way to stop extreme bleeding.

Suddenly, everything spun even more and black started filling my vision. The last I felt was the hard earth rushing up to meet me.

"Hey! Kid!" The rebel opened his arms wide. "Ya gonna finish shining my shoes?"

I ducked my face, cheeks burning and savagely rubbed his shoes. The flashbacks came and went as they may. I couldn't control when they happened. Each time, my hate for all the rebels grew. Oh, how I couldn't wait for the moment I could get back at them for what they did to me. What they did to my family.

The man leaned back, satisfied and folded his arms. It wouldn't be long until I got my revenge. No, it wouldn't be long.
