Jay was getting worse since they left the district. He had remained, after returning home, holed up under the covers without the strength or the desire to do anything, not even to eat. He was fasting from the previous day.

Hailey was increasingly worried, not least because her colleague wasn't answering his phone.

She was unable to go to him as she would have liked. Her parents and her brothers had come to her having to take care of some business in the city and had also requested the help of the detective.

In the end, to top it off, the group of was invited himsefs to dinner. They wanted to spend some time together, to spend an evening all together like when they were little.

Hailey and her mother had prepared a great dinner from appetizer to dessert.

While everyone ate, however, they were noticed that she was thoughtful and distracted.

- Hailey pass me the salt please? - asked one of the brothers without getting an answer.

- Hey! What are you thinking about? something wrong? - her brothers or parents asked her several times during dinner.

She apologized that everything was okay, that she had nothing, but whenever she could she snuck away, walked away to call Jay claiming they were business calls.

After yet another unanswered phone call, however, she decided to call Will. She had to understand what was happening.

She hoped the doctor could go to his brother's house to check on him.

He tried two or three times to contact him, but again he got no response. On the third unsuccessful phone call, she decided she was going to leave for Jay's house. She absolutely had to find out where he was and if she was okay.

She was on his way to the kitchen to warn his parents when the phone in her hand finally started ringing. Looking at the display she read Dr. Halstead's name and immediately answered.

- Will finally! - she said, satisfied that she got an answer

- Hey what's up? - he asked sleepily

- I'm sorry I must have woken you up - she said - I'm really sorry.-

- Don't worry, what's up? - answered Will who was starting to worry.

The doctor came from a grueling 12-hour shift and hadn't stopped for a moment all day. He was so tired that the only thing he wanted was to jump into his bed and get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, however, this seemed not to be possible. Although he had just gone to bed and immediately collapsed. He hadn't even been able to wait for Natalie's return that the shift would end that evening around 9:30 pm and that after taking Owen to Hellen's house she would return home. He had been awakened by the vibration of the cell phone. He was tempted to let it play, but then he was persuaded to at least read who was on the display. When he read Hailey's name he immediately knew it was best to answer. The detective never called except for important things. Usually it was always because his brother had gotten into some trouble or was hurt. In fact, even that time it was for an important reason. In fact, while the two were talking, the doctor realized that he had done well to answer.

- I can't get in touch with your brother. He quickly left work yesterday and after a text in the evening he never answered my phone. Did you see he today? - said the girl

- No, I worked all day today. By now, though, he might be asleep - the doctor speculated even though he knew Jay wasn't the type to go to bed early.

-Will, please, can you come over to his house? I don't think he's sleeping, he's not the type to go to bed early. - replied the detective as if she had read his thoughts.

- Hailey what's wrong you're not telling me? - he asked, sitting up in bed, worried.

- Yesterday was bad all day as far as I could see. For a couple of days he has had a bad cough which, instead of passing, got worse and worse. He claims he just caught a bad cold. Today we went to Lakeshore ...- Hailey continued

- Lakeshore? Why didn't you take him to the Med? - He asked interrupting her more and more agitated raising the tone of his voice.

- We were there for work, I had to ask a friend of yours for information and then we had to question a girl. Once there I had he checked.- she replied, lying a little.

- Okay, what did the doctors say? - Will asked

- That he has pharyngitis. He said he had a sore throat and a headache. They visited he and that was the response. - she explained

- Ok quiet, I'm going to take a look. Did he take anything? - Will added in medical mode getting up from the bed to jump to get ready to go out.

- Yes, a headache compress and maybe something for a cold first.

The two then said goodbye to Will who promised Hayley to update her for anything.
