Time is going by so slow and so fast at the same time after we arrived at the hospital, waiting for Michaela's MRI results to come back. We're all just silently sitting in the waiting room hoping that she doesn't have any brain damage. I wonder what the other people passing by are thinking when they see three girls in fancy prom dresses waiting in the waiting room. It is Lourdes, Evie, Steve and Karen (Michaela's parents), Ben and Grace, and Michaela's cute little twin niece and nephew just sitting and reading the crappy magazines as we wait. Jared hasn't come, and considering the fact that both Eve and Lou texted him and he isn't responding, I don't think he will.
Everyone is getting very impatient, especially the twins. They're only two, so it was expected, but I can tell that they're stressing Ben and Grace out. I want to help them all out so bad, but even as an angel, there's nothing I can do to suddenly make everything ok, but I can help out a bit. I go over to the twins and start to interact with them. Olive and Cal calm down after Grace lets me grab their toys and play with them to keep the restless kids quiet and occupied for a while. The weight of the room we were in seemed to lift from the Stone family's shoulders as the kids are laughing and playing. I had never met kids before this, and spending time with these twins was pretty fun. It is a good way to pass the time.
It was around 30 minutes before the doctor came out with a resident following him.
"Hi," he says addressing us, "I'm Dr. Jones. You must be Michaela Stone's friends and family." We all nod and he continues, "This is Dr. Bahl. She's at the end of her rotation and is about to start her residency in pediatrics, but for today she will be here shadowing me in the ICU. Anyways, good news: Michaela has no noticeable brain damage from the fall other than a minor concussion. Luckily this will have no lasting effects on Miss. Stone. She's awake and alert. You can all go see her now. Follow me if you'd to come to her room."
Michaela's family stands up, but Evie tells us, "Hey, we want to see her, but Lou's parents are definitely expecting her home and she is my ride so we have to go. Keep us updated and we'll come by first thing tomorrow morning whether she's still here or at home."
The rest of us follow the doctors to Michaela's room. She looks happy to see all of us. I'm annoyed at her for taking my words so seriously, but I can't be that mad since I was the one who told her to reclaim her future in the first place. After everyone talks to her for a bit, they all turn away to talk family stuff. It would seem odd that I'm her only friend here right now, but as her guardian angel, it's kind of my job.
I lean over to the now wide eyed and very awake Michaela and whispered in her ear, "Hey, Mick, what you did wasn't cool, but we have to live with it now. There are ways to fix it. Just remember that Zeke will be here in three months, and you can continue your lives. From now on, you have to stick to the path that was laid out for us and stick to the rules, ok?" She looks so confused at what I'm saying. Concussions can make people drowsy and a bit confused, but she's looking at me like she had never met me before. "Ok?" I say, checking back in and waiting for a response.
Finally, she has one. She looks at me with a puzzled look on her face as she asks me, "What did I do wrong? What do I need to fix? Also, who's Zeke?"
Oh. My. God.
This is why Gemma warned us. Well, this will be a really big challenge to fix…
