CHAPTER FOUR, PT. 1

The rescue mission

POV Lyon

The sun was falling in between the houses and the sky was red. In Lyon's eyes, it looked like blood was everywere. He has been standing in fornt of the gate for around thirty minutes and the only thing he could think about was Gray and Juvia. Erza and Levy walked up to him from behind.

-What are you thinking? You look anxious- Erza pointed out. Lyon turned around to look at them.

-I... uh... Was just thinking about what's happening outside this walls... Everyone started eating each other in a matter of seconds and now... it looks like there won't be an end...-

The two women looked at each other after hearing Lyon's words. They knew he was right. They didn't see an end either and it would be foolish of them to keep their spirits up. Levy made a step forward and touched his shoulder -I know it may be hard out there, but we will find them-

-Are you ready to go? Our Master allowed you to go and search for your people. But just with one extra person. We cannot allow more people to get killed by those things-

Lyon looked at Levy and smiled at her with gratitude -Thankyou for... helping me-

-Yeah, well... make sure not to waist this opportunity- she replied with a smirk.

-I won't- Lyon said confidently -By the way... who's going with me?-

-That would be me- Erza and Levy moved aside revealing a young and small girl with pink hair in two ponytails. She grabbed her waist and showed a confident smile. -Nice to meet you I'm Chelia- she sounded pretty cheerful compared to the rest of the people in this situation.

-Nice ro meet you, Chelia-

-Alright. Let's get down to business- She throwed Lyon a gun and he catched in the air -Nice catch-

-I was the catcher on my baseball team-

-I see. You'll need this when we go out-

-So, when are we doing this?-

-Now-

POV Gray and Juvia

-We're here...- Gray said while stopping the motorbike.

Juvia looked around in order to make sure those things weren't around, and as before... there was none.

-I'll go and check this place out- Gray got down from the motorbike -Stay here and be ready to go just in case everything goes to hell- He turned around and gave a step when suddenly Juvia's soft hand stopped him. Gray turned around and met with her worried eyes.

-Please... be careful...- Gray held her hand and gently squeezed it.

-I will- he smiled. Gray slowly let go of her hand and started walking towards the bridge.

There was no one out there. It was as if everyone and everything disappeared in an instant and nothing was left behind. Those monsters, those killer things... not even one could be seen... and that was... the scariest thing of all...

He walked towards the bridge and didn't manage to see Lyon at all. The bridge was still there but not in good conditions. It looked as if the wood would break the minute you steped on it, and that wouldn't be good. Unless you wanted to fall eighty meters into the rocky river... It was a beautiful sunset. A reddish sky with birds flying as if nothing was happening.

The clock in the train station indicated it was seven thirthy, and there was still no sign of Lyon. Was he alright? Did he make it? These questions and more crossed Gray's mind.

He made his way back to Juvia who was quietly waiting for him -Lyon and the others are not here yet-

-Do you think they're...-

-I don't know... I'm just hoping they are safe wherever they are-

-We can't stay and wait for them all night long... It would be too dangerous- She closed her fits tightly -Those things disappeared today and we don't know why or when they'll come back... We should find a place to hide before its too late...-

-Yeah... you're probably right...- Gray grabbed his head with exhasperation -My aunt's house its too far to go back and come again tomorrow-

-Yeah. Maybe if we look arou--

-Gray!- someone started screaming his name. The black-haired young man turned around and found Lyon waving at him from the other side of the bridge next to a petite girl.

-It's Lyon!- Juvia exclaimed happily.

-Yeah... It is..!- Gray smiled -he waved back at his brother.

-You have to cross the bridge! We found a safe place to stay!- Lyon shouted.

-Easy for you to say, brother...- Gray said to himself while looking at the woods. Juvia came limping towards him. -You think you can walk through the bridge with that feet if yours?- both of them looked at it.

-I think so. But the woods don't look too strong for two people-

-Yeah we should go one by one and the lightest first-

-You want me to check if the woods are stable enough for you?- Juvia asked jockingly.

-No, I don't mean it like--

-I know- she laughed while covering her mouth -I'm just playing with you-

POV LyonWhat was happening over the other side of the bridge? Juvia walked up to his brother while limping. Did she got hurt? And why did they seem to be closer with each other? Did something happened?

-Lyon, are you alright? You have a very angry expression on your face- she asked in concern.

-Yeah... everything is fine- he tried to focus again by looking at the bridge -Juvia should come first. She is the lightest-

-Yeah, these woods doesn't look to be in a good state to hold them both at the same time- Chelia pointed out.

POV Gray and Juvia-Alright... I'll go first...- Juvia held onto the ropes holding the bridge and made the first step. The woods started screaching making all of them nervous. -Oh god...- It was high. It was really high.

-It's fine, just don't look down-

-Its easy to say...- Juvia kept on going without trying to put much pressure on her injured feet. The wind started blowing making the hole bridge to hundle.

-Its fine Juvia! You're almost here!- Lyon screamed to her.

But not everything was fine.

Gray heared the train station's clock sound indicating it was almost eight o'clock so he turned around, and out of nowhere some of the walkers started to appear. -Oh crap..!-

Lyon saw this as well and started panicking -Gray! You have to cross the bridge, NOW!- Hearing this, Juvia looked behind her and saw those things coming towards them.

-Oh no...- She started to walk faster towards the end and managed to grab Lyon's hand, who pulled her out of the bridge.

-I'm glad you're safe...- He held her in his arms tightly.

-Thankyou...- she hugged him back but rapidly turned towards Gray.

-Juvia... your feet..! What happened?- Lyon asked her with a worried expression.

-It's a long story... I'll tell you later-

-I have to hurry or those things will get me- he started to walk fastly but the bridge was moving too much so it was hard for him to move freely. -Shit...- the walkers reached the bridge and started following Gray. But many of them fell down into the river because of the movement.

-Gray! Hurry up!- His brother shouted.

One of the monsters was catching up to him when one of the woods broke and catched Gray's leg. -Oh shit!- Chelia saw this and quickly grabbed her gun to start shooting at them. At this point the bridge was going to fall.

-Gray...! Juvia shouted.

He started pulling his leg until he got free and kept on running towards the end of the bridge. But the walkers followed him until the bridge collapsed...

Luckily Gray held onto one of the ropes sacing him from the fall and Lyon pulled him up safely. Juvia walked up to him and hugged him tightly. -I'm so glad you're safe..!- Gray hugged her back while still panting.

-Guys, we can talk later, now we should go! My gunshots will attrackt more- Chelia said.

-Where did they xome from though? There were none of them a while ago..!- Juvia exclaimed.

-We'll worry about that later. Let's go- Lyon kneeled and let Juvia get on his back.

Chelia went first and opened the door of a black van and let them get inside. Lyon helped Juvia sat and then Gray went inside. Then Lyon sat in the front seat with Chelia and made their way back to the base.

-It's so good to see you safe, Guys- Lyon said.

-Yeah, he had been a cry baby for these days without both of you- Chelia laughed.

-Its good to see you too- Gray replied -By the way, where are we going?-

-There is a place that is keeping surviving people safe away from those things. It's amazing. Once inside those walls you won't know what's happening with those things-

-That's such a relief..!- Juvia said while looking at Gray -But those things disappeared for some time today... Isn't weird? They appeared again a while ago just when we were attacked in the bridge-

-We've noticed that. We are trying to understand their behaviour but we don't have much information about them yet-

On their way, there were some walkers on the road but not an amount to worry about. Erza was waiting for them in the gate were she made the order to open once the van was in front. Chelia went out first and let Erza know everything had been a success.

Lyon went out and opened the door for Gray and Juvia. Gray went out first followed by Juvia -Juvia, let me help you- Lyon smiled at her while holding her hand.

-Oh, um, thankyou- she smiled back. She also peeked at Gray who was watching every movement they made with a serious expression. Lyon held her by the waist and helped her walk.

-Levy, please take a look at her- Erza asked.

-Sure. You two follow me. I'll make sure everything is fine and I'll take a look at that feet of yours-

A few hours passed and the checkups finished. Luckily everything was alright, even Juvia's feet. Gray knocked on Juvia's door and went inside once she allowed him to come in. -How are you feeling?-

-I'm fine! Levy said I'll be walking normally again in three weeks when I finish all the medicine and get some rest-

-That's good to hear...- he said relieved -Your room is pretty nice-

-Yeah... even though its just like an infirmary room it looks pretty good, right?-

-Erza said she'll be showing us our new rooms in some hours- he said while sitting in the couch next to her bed.

-I've heared, but I have to stay here until my leg completely healed-

-I see...-

-Gray?-

-...- he looked at her.

-How... are you?- he looked at her with a confused expression -I mean, with everything that has happened... your aunt...-

-... Well... To be honest I've seen better days but, there's nothing I can do about it- Juvia just stared at her with concern.

-I'm here for you if you need anything-

-Yeah...- Gray held his hair and tried to cover his eyes. But Juvia saw a tear rolling down his cheek so she went out from her bed and sat net to him and hugged him -yeah...- Gray grabbed her and pulled her closer while trying to hold his tears back.
