Late in the evening, Camille was sitting at one of the pool tables, staring up at the dark sky. Steve had looked quite surprised when she told him that she wanted to sit out here for a while. He said good night to her and left. And now Camille was sitting there, thinking about the events of the day, when a very familiar voice behind her said, "You still look great tonight."
Her heart skipped a beat when she turned around to see Logan standing in front of her. She smiled. "I think I'm having déjà vu right now."
Logan returned her smile and asked politely, "So... did you have a good evening?"
"Yes, I can't complain."
"You and Steve... are you guys dating?"
She was surprised by his unusual straightforwardness, but she replied in a calm tone, "Well, not at the moment. But we want to meet again, so who knows. Maybe in the near future."
He nodded absently. "Yeah... it's just so strange because I thought..."
"Yeah?" Camille asked curiously.
"Um... when we had this conversation earlier, you said, well, you said something about winning me back and when I saw you tonight-"
"You said you just wanted to be friends," she replied with a shrug. He bit his lip. "Yes, that's true."
"And you and Peggy seem to get along pretty well. But why didn't you watch the movie together?"
"Um… she... she got an important call and had to leave."
"Will you see her again?" Camille hoped her voice was still neutral and polite. Logan rubbed the back of his neck. "Um, I honestly don't know. Maybe."
"You two would make a great couple."
"Yes, probably."
Silence spread between them. Finally, Logan cleared his throat and said, "Well, it's getting late. I should probably go to bed."
"Okay."
"Shall I walk you to your apartment?"
She shook her head. "No, I think I'll stay here."
"Do you need company?"
She smiled. "I thought you wanted to go to sleep."
He blinked and his cheeks flushed. "Um, yes. Right. Yeah, I should really go. All three of the boys have been dumped tonight and are a little depressed. I should be there for them."
"All right. Good night, Logan."
"Good night, Camille."
Slowly, Logan left the pool area and entered the lobby. When he got to the entrance, he waved to her, and disappeared into the building. Camille sighed heavily. This had probably been the toughest day ever for her, and still... still she remained steadfast. It took an incredible amount of strength to resist Logan, but she had made up her mind. The initiative must come from him this time. She had to be sure that he was serious and that he actually wanted to have a relationship with her again. There was probably still a long way to go, but thanks to today, she was certain that her intention was going in the right direction. She was excited to see how things would turn out.
