When Logan emerged from the water, his gaze fell on a towel that someone was holding out to him.
"Here."
He raised his head and saw Camille who was looking at him with an amused look in her eyes. Logan had to grin. "Is this getting into a habit? Every time I end up in a pool, you give me a towel?"
While she was laughing, he climbed out of the pool and gratefully accepted the towel. She didn't wait for him to dry off, but walked away from the party and went down to the ocean. Logan followed her. For a while, they just stood there and looked out to the sea.
"How was your day?" Logan asked, feeling the urgent need to say something. Camille smiled. "Very interesting, actually. I helped James get closer to a girl we thought might be a mermaid. Spoiler alert: She's not a mermaid."
"Sure."
Camille looked at him. "Don't you want to know any details?"
Logan raised his eyebrows. "With James who hits on everything that is female and you who-"
"Yes?" She asked when he didn't continue.
"Um ... well, I wanted to say that you are a person who likes ... who has an impressive imagination. So no, I don't think I have to know any details."
She laughed softly and then asked, "What did you do today?"
"Carlos and I were looking for a buried treasure and we maybe or maybe not
destroyed Griffin's new sports car and his precious Ming Dynasty vase collection."
She nodded.
"You don't ask?" Logan said, a little teasingly. She smiled. "What? With you guys who destroy everything that stands in your way? No, I think I can imagine it," she teased back. Logan was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. He liked talking to Camille that way, but at the same time he kept remembering that she was currently seeing someone. He looked back at the party. "I am amazed that your friend isn't here. What was his name again? Steven?"
Camille shook her head. That Logan Mitchell would ever forget something was extremely rare. She knew very well that he knew the name of her last date and only pretended he'd forgotten it. She thought it was kind of sweet because it showed a side of him that she hadn't seen before.
"It's Steve. And he's not here because you just invited your friends," she replied matter-of-factly.
"Oh ... right."
"But he couldn't have come anyway because he's working today."
"Are you two in a relationship by now?" Logan tried to sound normal, but Camille could still hear a strange undertone in his voice.
"Well ... no, not really. We see each other every now and then, but we keep it casual. It's nothing official."
"Ah," Logan muttered and Camille wished she could look inside his head to know what he was thinking. He just stood there in silence for several minutes, deep in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked softly. He blinked. "Huh? Oh, nothing. Sorry. Hey, why don't we just go back to the party and grab some food?"
"Yeah, we can do that. And maybe ... we can dance for a while," she said, hoping that would cheer him up.
"Can we do that?" Logan asked surprised and - if Camille wasn't mistaken - hopefully.
"Well, like I said earlier, Steve and I are keeping it casual. That means I can dance with anyone I want. And we're friends. So I see no reason why we shouldn't dance together."
Logan tilted his head for a moment, and then he gave her his signified crooked grin, which made her heart skip a beat.
"Okay, let's do it."
Smiling, she took his hand and led him back to the party.
