Summary: It's not exactly a legal lifestyle, but Ozai and Ursa and their kids are happy together and that's what matters. (Modern No Powers AU)
Ozai stood outside the door, taking deep breaths to calm his nerves. This meeting was important. If he played his cards right, he'd walk out of here with his family one million dollars richer.
He wore an elegant tuxedo, his hair slicked back, the perfect picture of the legitimate businessman. This was his building, of his company, which he'd set up himself - it looked like a legitimate business HQ because it was a legitimate business HQ, though the business itself may not have been entirely legal. Beyond the polished oak door was a gathering of some of the richest investors and CEOs in the country. This meeting was very important.
Finally he pushed open the door, smiling to the assembled people. "Welcome, everyone. Shall we get started?"
Zuko slipped into the basement of another building, one whose CEO was currently away on business. Shame that business wasn't going to go well for him. And a shame, too, that he'd come back to find even more bad news.
Not like Zuko cared about that.
He'd already robbed his dad's building, completing the façade. The other companies had tight security, almost a challenge, but not really. Secret documents, valuables, bank account numbers, and - his favorite - incriminating information. His family might not understand it, but he loved being a hero.
When he'd bagged everything he wanted, he took out a small device - not his phone - and sent a ping.
Ursa felt the ping in her hand, checked the ID, and checked off the box on the Excel document. Zuko had finished and merely needed to extract himself. Her husband, who she could see on the zoom call, was in his phones-on-silent meeting, holding the executives' attention as easily as her son lifted wallets. Iroh and Zhao were both in the room with her, Iroh patiently tending his tea and Zhao peering over her shoulder to watch his best friend on the screen.
It was poisons that Ursa technically specialized in, but she also often acted as Mission Control for the family missions. Azulon was old and often slept through the action. She usually had Iroh and Zhao with her, unless Iroh was out conning people or Zhao was in court. Iroh's tea was always welcome.
She frowned. Two out of three points of interest accounted for. But how was Azula doing?
She'd never admit it, but Azula was having some trouble.
She waited below a high wall, waiting for Ty Lee to give her the all-clear. She'd already had to avoid two sets of guards. Security must be tighter than expected, though she supposed that would be pretty normal if you were rich and and a pedophile.
Seriously, this guy was an asshole. Azula rarely read the documents her brother would leak to the media during his Robin Hood moments, but on Mai's encouragement she'd actually peeked at these ones, and she hadn't been able to look away. Pedophilia crime rings, favoritism, worming his way out of any and all punishment, treating his workers like garbage, not to mention even more narcissistic than Father or Azulon - it was like the universe decided to use every single horrible trait that a billionaire could have when making this guy. By all but the most uptight moral standards, this man deserved to die.
Finally she saw Ty Lee's signal: two flashes of light in a newly opened window. Quickly, as quickly as she could, she scurried up the wall, making sure her knives were in place. Mai would kill her if she lost another one. Ty Lee was waiting for her beside the bed. Her job was done; the monkey had opened up the way, and now the metalwoman would do the actual killing.
She did it quickly and savagely, cutting his throat wide open to avoid him screaming. Finally, this was almost over. She sent a ping to her mom, who would definitely be worrying. Now they just had to get out.
Piece of cake. Right?
After midnight, so technically late. I really need to start/work on these earlier.
