Dark on Me
A/N: Well, I think we're nearing the end. Hope y'all enjoy reading. Also, happy pride month!
The number you have reached is not—
Shadow sighed as he hung up for the fifth time that day. After what happened last week, Sandy just up and stopped talking to him. He didn't even get to explain what happened.
"Hey, we're on in a couple minutes," Static said, strumming a few strings on his bass. "What's up with you?"
Shadow put his phone away, clicking his tongue in irritation. "Nothing, just. . .remind me to get a cab to head back home."
"Oh," Static started. "Oh shit, she ditched you, didn't she?" he continued, his voice tinged with smugness.
Shadow folded his arms over his chest, looking away as Static grinned. The fuck was he so smug about? "I messed up, okay? Her best friend came on to me and she saw." Shadow scratched his cheek. "It was a misunderstanding that wouldn't be one if she just answered her damn phone."
Static snorted, covering his mouth as Shadow glared at him. "Alright, say she does pick up the phone, then what?" he said, walking over to the minifridge as Mei entered the room.
Shadow shrugged as Mei made sure his mic worked. "Apologize, hell, beg for forgiveness."
"Wow, begging, she's really got you wrapped around her finger." Mei chimed in, handing the mic to Shadow and leading them to the stage.
Shadow looked out at the crowd, foolishly hoping to see Sandy there. She was probably back in Talfryn right now. He sighed, bringing the mic up to his lips.
There's no hate
There's no love
Only dark skies that hang above
I call your name as I walk alone
Send a signal to guide me home
Light the night up, you're my dark star
And now you're falling away
Eventually the crowd joined in, knowing this song well. It was one he performed many times while on tour and for once, it actually held meaning more than a lost love or simple sorrow.
But I found in you what was lost in me
Shadow crooned as the drums kicked in. His eyes sweeped the crowd once more, finding a familiar cowboy hat. At least Randy was here, maybe he could ask Randy to speak with her.
Sandy had blocked Shadow's number, but that didn't help much with her current thoughts. She shouldn't have left him alone in Texas even if he did have a concert there. But he did kiss Bethany right in front of her and just gaped at her when he noticed.
It didn't help that she found herself actually falling for him, and it stung even more when she saw how none of it mattered. She sighed as her phone chimed with a message.
Randy: Can we talk?
Me: Bout what?
Randy: …this is Shadow.
Me: Then no. Go away.
She scoffed as he didn't reply. She figured fake dating was a stupid idea in the first place. She should've just been honest. The short tune of The Chain played as Randy called her. She groaned.
"What?"
"Come on, at least talk to him," Randy said, the rustle of the line letting Sandy know Shadow was on the other end.
"Do ya have any idea how much—?"
"I know," Shadow interrupted. "And it's not right if I don't, she kissed me and I pushed her away cause, well, I'm dating…was dating you."
Sandy frowned, running a hand through her hair as she sighed. "Fine, but if I catch you messin' around, that's it." She said.
"I wouldn't dare," Shadow replied, offense clear in his voice. "So, I'll see you when I get home?"
She hummed in response, smiling. "Maybe, dependin' on if you do me a favor when ya get here."
"Anything,"
Sandy chuckled, keeping her favor from him as the call continued and she asked him how the concert went and gave him her address. She hoped she was making the right choice.
