Nick and Judy just drove around through the city. Not getting out to do anything. Just some quality time together enjoying each other's company outside of work.
"what would you do to keep yourself calm?" Judy asked Nick.
"Just listen to music or meditate. doesn't help too much but it's something. It's getting late. We should get going."
"Yeah I'm getting tired"
10 minutes later, Judy rested her head on Nick's arm and she fell asleep. Nick didn't mind. At the stop light, Nick quickly but carefully wrapped his jacket around his sleeping partner. About an hour later, they were home. Nick carried Judy out of his car and took her inside and put her on his bed.
Nick covered her with his blanket and he went into his office. Nick sat in his chair and he leaned back in it and relaxed. He got his phone out and played some calming music. He closed his eyes and started to meditate.
While he was meditating, he saw himself just standing. He was standing with the aflamb soldiers preparing to charge and attack. At the sound of the Aflamb Captain shouting "CHARGE", Nick and the combatives ran as fast as they can. All of them with rage and aggression in their eyes. As they charged, their battle cries sounded like a roar of thunder.
Nick opened his eyes and jumped up. His heart was racing rapidly and his sweat was cold. Nick stoped the music and he put on his pajamas and went to his bed room only to find Judy awake.
"Hopps? what are you doing awake?"
"I heard you meditating and your calming music just woke me up"
"sorry, was it to loud?"
"No, it was kind of relaxing. But I heard you kind of having a panic attack. Are you okay?"
"yeah I'm fine. Just go to bed."
Nick grabbed 3 incense sticks and lit them up and put on some calming music.
"what's with the incense and music?" Judy asked Nick.
"helps me sleep at night."
"helps you sleep? why didn't I smell it or hear music when I came last night?"
"I didn't feel the need to."
Nick got into bed next to Judy and he faced her.
"This is what calms you down?"
"Yeah. I just take it all in. It sometimes gives you relaxing dreams too."
Nick got comfortable in bed and he closed his eyes still facing Judy.
"Goodnight carrots."
Judy looked at him and she started to drift off as well.
Judy woke up at 5 A.M. to find herself clinging on to Nick's arm. She blushed red. She wanted to let go before Nick woke up but at the same time she didn't want to let go.
oh God what am I doing? what if he wakes up. What if he-*
In that moment, Nick turned around and he cuddled her fully. Judy felt so comfortable in his arms. She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
At about 9:30, Judy woke up wrapped in Nick's warm arms.
She whispered softly to him.
"Good morning my hero"
She slowly got out of bed to make some breakfast. About five minutes later, Nick woke up to the smell of fresh french toast and oatmeal. He put on his shirt and walked to the kitchen where he found Judy with 2 plates of food for them.
"Morning Nicky"
"Hehe, no. Only my mom can call me Nicky."
Judy chuckled and she set the plates down on the table.
"Here you go. Home made breakfast. It's a Hopps recipe."
"Thanks chef Carrots"
Judy sat down and ate her food in front of Nick.
"This is really good Hopps. Why didn't you think about becoming a cook?"
"Nah, I'm not really a restaurant cook kind of bunny."
"Oh, that's sad. You would've been flooding a restaurant with hungry customers for this stuff. It's so good. Better than what my grandmother makes."
"Okay you're just over doing it. everyone knows grandma's make the greatest food in the world. in fact, that's where I got it from. My grandmother."
"Oh, well she's a great cook"
Judy chuckled. The two finished up eating and got ready for Nick's appointment. Nick put on his army shirt, grabbed his ID card and his files and they went to the car. About an hour driving down town, they reached the VA office.
"so why did you join?" Judy asked
"it was for my dad"
Nick was cut off by the sound of his name.
"Sargent Wilde. you're up."
Nick patted Judy's leg and grabbed his stuff off her lap and walked to the service window.
"Sargent Wilde you scheduled an appointment about two days ago is that correct?"
"yes sir, it is."
"okay just fill this out and wait about 2-3 more minutes and your doctor will come and get you."
He handed Nick a pice of paper
"And nice job on the nighthowler case. Tell officer Hopps the same thing."
"will do"
Nick sat back down next to Judy who was reading an article on her phone.
"oh look, crime rate went down a lot since our case"
"oh wonderful. just hope it doesn't go down too much or we'll be out of a job"
a female doctor called Nick up
"Sargent Wilde"
Both Nick and Judy got up to start the appointment.
"you have 2 silver stars, 3 bronze stars, 3 legions of merits, the distinguished service cross and the congressional medal of, Jesus Sargent Wilde you are a hero."
Judy looked at Nick with amazement.
"it says here you've been suffering with PTSD and depression. Ever since you've gone to your first therapy session you said this has dropped not even very little. Are you doing anything to relax yourself?"
"I am. I've picked up a form of ancient Roman meditation and I've just been working a lot at the ZPD to help keep my mind busy. But lately I've been getting weird dreams."
Judy looked up at Nick concerned.
"and what is this dream Sargent?"
My friends... they are all screaming a major battle cry.
"interesting" said the therapist.
"And what would they say to you?"
"Nothing. They would just look at me like they were fighting like savages. It's just chaos."
After about an hour talking, Nick and Judy left and went back to Nick's house. Judy didn't say and on the way back. When they got home, they just put their stuff away and settled down on the couch.
"Did they tell you anything about your apartment?" Nick asked.
"no I gave heard anything yet. But I hope they get it cleaned up soon."
Nick turned on the TV and Judy sat next to him.
"Nick can I ask you something?"
Nick looked at Judy.
"Why did you join the army?"
"I wanted to be someone for once. Not just a crooked fox that everyone see's on the streets. I wanted to just get the hell out of here, to get out of everyone's fur. I saw a recruiter for the army and I just signed a special ops contract. About a few weeks later I went to fort Benning for training. It was hell but I actually enjoyed it. 8 weeks later I graduated top of my class as an army ranger. I felt ready for anything. Like I could take on the world. Until I entered my first fire fight"
Nick tried to hold back his tears.
"My squad entered into a trap. Machine guns were places at an elevated position. I was with an Aflamb platoon that day. When we reached the hill, I just saw multiple flashes.
"GET DOWN" Nick shouted as machine gun fire began to cut down his comrades.
"I held my head down behind cover. Bullets were flying by like angry hornets on steroids. I was young and inexperienced but I know what I had to do".
A Young Nick jumped up from behind cover and ran. A bullet hit him on the back of his armor.
"Get an artillery strike north of our position." Called out the platoon commander.
"Charlie 3-4 this is charlie 3-3 requesting artillery barrage at Grid ES 923 945, over"
"Roger sending payload your way over"
"Roger, be advised danger close, over"
"*The artillery was too close. One landed right in front of me and knocked me back and out*"
"That's all i remember." Nick looked at Judy who was completely silent.
"Let's go to bed fluff"
Judy nodded and went back to nicks bed. They laid down facing each other. Judy grabbed Nicks hand.
"You're my hero Nick. Never forget that"
She Kissed Nicks hand and fell asleep.
"Never forget that"
