'MOM! DAD! SARAH! NOO!'

8:00 AM AEST, 22/08/2019

I woke up with a jolt, gasping for air. I was sweating like crazy from head to paw, my eyes were dilating rapidly and I looked around the room with alarm, although I wasn't sure why. I quickly held a paw on my chest, trying to calm myself down. Then I looked over to Sarah to see that she's still sleeping peacefully, with her rings giving off a faint hue, and that made me fully calm down and smiled a bit.

I then decided that I didn't want to stay on the bed, so I shook myself fully awake and jumped down, then went to the restroom to do my morning routine. First thing I realized is that I was short, like really, really short. So much so that I had to slide a chair below the sink to stand on, and even then I would have to balance myself with my forepaws on the ledge while standing on my hind legs. That was the very first time I got a proper look at myself. Dark pink fur spread throughout my body, a round face with black soulful (too much?) eyes and a star-shaped gem on my forehead. I then felt something brushing my back and looked back when I saw my tail. I looked at it in curiosity, trying to move it around myself. I then frowned a bit as I noticed something off about it. Its ending wasn't splitted off into a fork like it should. Instead, it stayed as one tail that curved into the shape of a heart. I smiled since I thought of it as funny and very descriptive of myself.

After my morning routine was finished, I looked at the sleeping form of my sis, started thinking a bit, then had a marvelous idea! I started positioning myself at one end of her bed, wiggled my butt then went all in!

"WAKE UP SARAH!" I said as I pounced on her, having a silly grin on my face,

"OW! My god! Why can't you be normal for once?!" My sis scolded me angrily, which I replied with a stick of the tongue.

"I don't know~ Why don't you tell me~?"

She groaned in response and slowly sat up, looking like she just went to a nightclub the day before. I giggled at her face,

"But really, you should wake up, it's getting late."

"Uuuuughh fiiine. Just get off of me first." She then pushed me off of her, almost off the bed even, but I managed to land safely.

I then told her to hurry up and headed out of the room.

"Hmm.. What to do, what to do…" I then heard a deep growling from somewhere, and chuckled lightly, "Guess I know now!"

I ran towards the kitchen with a bit of spring in my step, eagerly awaiting what food there could be. My kitchen wasn't anything grand, just a normal one with a stove counter, some cabinets, and the fridge.

When I walked into the main section of the living room, my mom was deep in thought, so deep that she didn't notice me coming. She looked serious, so I spoke up gently,

"Umm.. mom?"

She looked up at me, "Huh? Oh you're here, good, and.. where's Sarah?"

"Brushing her teeth at the moment."

She then nodded in response and told me to take a seat, so I did just that, sitting next to my father who looked bored out of his mind.

LATER

After having a nice little breakfast, everyone had taken their own seat, and was waiting for my mom to start. I noticed my sister, with curiosity plastered all over her face, looked like she was hesitating to ask what my mom was gonna say. So I spoke up,

"Umm mom? What did you call us out here for?"

She looked up, gave a quick sigh and straightened up her back, preparing to deliver the big, shocking, and most definitely devastating news.

"...

We're being hunted."

Everyone looked at her in surprise,

"… Say that again?"

"We're being hunted, by the police, the government."

"Wh-Why?! How?!" My sister asked.

"Apparently Mr. Daniel Andrews, the oh-so-powerful Victorian Premier, said this, and I quote, 'Due to the uncertainty of what exactly these creatures are capable of, and whether or not this is an infectious disease, I am hereby enforcing this new ruling which WHO has brought out, regarding the creation of exclusions zones around the state of Victoria'."

"What does that mean?" I inquired with a face of confusion,

"It means that he is giving the police permission to capture us Pokemon and take us away from these so-called 'exclusion zones', practically dragging us away from our home to those campsites for prisoners."

"We're gonna be captured and locked away?! Practically become prisoners?!" Sarah questioned, alarmed, "Even though we have done nothing wrong?! Why?!"

"I don't know Sarah, I really don't know. All I know is that the government considers us a threat and wants to contain us as much as possible."

"So.. what do we do now?" My dad finally asked.

"We hide, just like we have been doing, and hope that they don't find us if they barge into our house to look for us."

"Well where would we hi-"

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

We stared at the front door in surprise, worry, and fear.

"Victorian Police, open the door."

I looked at my mom for guidance, and the only thing she did was to nod and motion for me to go hide. So that's what I did, that's what my whole family did at the same time. While we were busy, I caught some faint talking from outside the door, probably the policemen agreeing that there was no human home. By the time we were all hidden, the police had successfully breached our front door and had streamed inside to search for any Pokemon, which was us.

Where I was, in the dark corners below the stairs, I couldn't see a thing, so I had to rely on my hearing to determine what was happening, and all I heard were footsteps, loud, and thundering ones. I felt scared and hopeless, feeling like I could be caught at any second. Never in my life had I been subjected to situations like this. My breaths were short and my eyes were getting hazy, it felt like torture. One time, I even heard footsteps coming towards me. I gave a barely audible gasp and immediately covered my muzzle with both paws, eyes wide in alarm. And then, it all stopped. There was no sound, nor heat that I could feel nearby. Everything was silent, everything was.. calm. Too calm.

But then, a scream. Sarah's.

I immediately got out from underneath the stairs and ran towards the source of the sound. Everything around me was a blur, but I couldn't care to notice it. I ran out the front door and saw what could possibly be the most heart-wrenching thing in my life, and I screamed my lungs out as my family were all thrown inside the police truck,

"MOM! DAD! SARAH! NOO!"

One officer saw me run out and sprinted over, baton in hand, intending to catch me too, but I had already noticed and ran away before he could, with him following closely after me.

I felt broken, like my life was slowly breaking down into pieces. That was it, they were taken, never to be seen again, leaving me back here, all alone, fending for myself. I had never imagined a life without my parents. When I'm older, sure, but never at this age.

I couldn't think straight, so I kept running, running away from this hurtful reality, from the fact that was shown so clearly, wondering what else could make my life even more miserable than it is now.
