His phone rang. Picking it up in his pocket, he looked and saw it was Gray. He was calling him? At this time? His gut turned. He did just now save Lucy from a predator in the ally. He admits that he was stalking her, but when he realised someone was going to hurt her, he couldn't have it. It's not like he can even have a relationship. But he couldn't let anybody else have her.
She was his and he was hers. That's what they both promised each other in the start.
Answering the phone, he raised it to his ear. "What do you want, ice princes-"
"I wouldn't start if I were you." Gray said coolly. "You and I both know you shouldn't be in Clover, Natsu."
Rumbling came from his throat. "It's been too long damnit - I don't care what Gramps says-"
"Not even the magic council?" Gray asked, the frown on his lips was thick in his voice. Of course Gray disapproved. He always had something to say in the actions Natsu did.
"Even the magic council." Natsu growled.
"You know that if you're trying to get back in contact with Lucy, that they'd just erase her memory again. They could just as easily whip any memory you have of her-"
"You don't think I know that?" Natsu spat. He raised his head and looked at the moon. "I can't just go my entire life without seeing her."
"It's been two months, Natsu."
"Yeah, whatever." He snapped. "What are ya calling me for anyways?"
There was a smirk. "Erza's looking for you. Saying something about property damage again."
His heart skipped a beat. He was totally going to get his ass kicked by that witch. "Ok. fine. I'll be back soon." Then he hung up.
Natsu brought the phone out of his ear and stared at the contact. Damn him. If only he stayed out of this, there wouldn't be any trouble. Anger flashed through him as he paced on top of the building. If Gray was there, then he must've had a motive to tell her something important about Natsu himself, but what could it be?
It was clear that the magic council had succeeded on erasing her memories because she showed no sign of recognition when they had bumped into each other. Natsu didn't even realize she was there until he had heard her scream.
A sad, lonely feeling crept up into his heart. It was almost two months since they had erased her memory and had her move back into her own town. The commotion about Lucy Heartfilia movin' back into Clover had went nuts around town - to - town, but the town folk and everyone else had been warned not to associate with her if it had to do with her past life with Fairy Tail and her home town Magnolia.
The only memories that they allowed her to keep was her publishing books and the death of her father. When she left, the guild was crushed - Natsu and Happy were the ones hurt the most. Natsu had lost his girlfriend, his nakama, his best friend and all they cared about was forgetting about the incident and moving on.
How could he move on when there was no Lucy?
His head snapped down to the sidewalk as he heard a scream.
"Who are you?!"
His eyes widened as he realized it was Lucy. He took a step of the ledge he was standing on and stepped off, landing on a different building in a flash. His gut turned as he kneed down on an old building and listened in.
"I'm Gray Fullbuster, Natsu's nakama."
Natsu felt a wave of anger as he clenched his teeth. What the hell was he doing near his Lucy? He was about to pounce on the metal staircase the hangs on the side of the building until Gray spoke up again. "Natsu and my team had bumped into you on the way home in Clover. There, we got into a fight and I sent him flying towards you, but you-" There was a pause and Natsu gritted his teeth. He wanted to be in there, to be by her side and protect her, but he knew that it would make her freak out. "-You, kicked him and sent him flying - flying away from you."
Natsu smiled at the memory. It had been awhile since he last saw one of her "Lucy Kicks".
"What the hell does that have to do with breaking in my house?!"She screamed.
"I'm not trying to threaten or scare you. I came to warn you."
Warn her?
"Warn me?"
"It's about Natsu."
His anger flared. The fuck does he have anything to warn Lucy against him for?
"Oh, you mean the one who ditched me 10 minutes ago? That bastard?"
Natsu cringed. He didn't have any other choice! He had almost let it slip out that he was a mage, there was no way she would stop bugging him if he ignored her comment. He heard Gray smirk.
"I see he's left a pleasant third - impression."
Natsu gritted his teeth tighter. Damn it you iodic ice princess! She only knows about the two times they've ran into each other!
"Anyway - why did you want to warn me about Natsu for?"
"I wouldn't go near him if I were you. He's playing a dangerous game coming all this way from home just to 'accidently' bump into you. He's not who he really says he is-" That bastard! "and I know I haven't given you enough to trust me either-"
"You damn right you haven't."
"BUT-" There was a pause. "I wouldn't lie when it comes to Natsu. He's important to me and I would like him staying out of trouble instead of playing a game with a blonde chick who likes to write books."
There was movement below him and a pause.
Lucy spoke first. "How do you know I write books?" She asked. Natsu could hear the curiosity in her voice.
"I've seen you around." That was a fast lie. "You've been publishing' your books, I didn't recognize you until I was on the train home."
"Oh really?" Her voice perked up. "What book did you like? The one with the mysterious cloak or the dragon one?"
"The dra-"
"You wouldn't know because I didn't publish any of those options I gave you." She snapped, interrupting the raven. She was catching on. "Who are you really and how do you know I write books?"
"I-I-"
Natsu swung down on the stairs and burst through the window, landing on his feet as he stood slowly back up.
Lucy gasped. "N-Natsu?!"
"You know you're not suppos-"
Natsu drew his hand back and punched Gray in the face. He tumbled to the ground with a cough as he landed on his side for support. "Oh I'm sorry, did I cut you off?" Natsu sneered. As Gray looked over towards the mage, shivers went up his back. "If you try and break into my Lucy's apartment again-" His pupils ceased into a small ball as Natsu growled, now standing up straight as he glared furiously down at Gray. "I will personally see to it that you won't be able to walk for a month." His voice went into a deathly quiet whisper. "You got that?"
