She didn't have a clue about what was going on.

Who were these people? Why did they know so much about her even though she had just met them a week ago? She bit her tongue and watched the two in front of her start fighting, anger slowly grumbling up in her veins. Her eyebrow twitched as she scoffed. She was about to step forwards and start yelling, but the pink-haired guy had stepped away from Gray, turned towards her, and had taken her hands into his.

Her eyes went wide as she sputtered in surprise, a quick red flush covered her cheeks while her heart sped up to her throat. She didn't understand why the man had her hands in his, but something about it had felt right, felt like this is what she had been missing.

"I'm sorry that we were fightin' in front of ya, Luce." He said softly, his eyes closed as he leaned his forehead against hers.

"What the- why the hell-" She pushed the pink-haired man back and stepped back, ignoring his confused gaze. "My name isn't Luce, it's Lucy." She stated, stomping her foot in place and holding her hands on her waist. "-and I don't know what the hell is going on, but it seems like I'm the only one who's missing out." She peered over at the raven-haired man, his gaze averting away as they made eye contact. "So do you mind sharing-"

"Natsu, we need to leave," Gray murmured, leaning over to Natsu as he tugged on his shirt. "The Royal Guards."

"I know." Natsu snapped back, but in a much husher tone than he had used earlier with his friend. His eyes stayed on the blonde. "Let me just say goodbye." He whispered. Gray nodded and stepped around them and exited the apartment. Natsu heard his footsteps go up on the roof.

When he was out of the room, Lucy looked at Natsu. "What the hell do you mean by the-"

Natsu sighed and walked up to her, reaching around her waist and pulling her into a hug, holding her body tight to his. He sniffed her scent and relaxed, his stomach fluttering. He had missed this. Her touch, looks, scent, and personality. It had been a short while that he hadn't been able to hold her like this in what felt like an eternity. But now he has to leave her again.

"What the- Natsu-" Lucy had tried to get free of his grip, but he had held on tighter, his heart crumbling as he started crying.

"I know you don't know who I am or what's happening, but I can promise you that what I did in the past to make you end up like this was never intended. I will always love you." He inhaled one shaky breath before pulling away, his vision blurry from the wet tears, and kissed her on the forehead. He drew back and cupped her face in his hands. He gazed into her wide, chocolate eyes before shutting his eyes, murmuring out a sentence, and turning around. He stepped on the window and looked behind him at the blonde.

She was standing there, in the middle of her own apartment with gold blonde hair, her chocolate eyes as she watched Natsu jump. The image of her shocked, confused expression was stuck in his mind as he landed on top of the roof where Gray was waiting. He was sitting, playing with his ice magic when he looked up at his partner.

"I really am sorry and I know this has been tough on you, but it's for the best-"

His angry, cold gaze snatched Gray's words. "Don't tell me what you think is for the best of my relationship when you can't even do a good job of keeping yours." He snapped, whipping his face that was streaming with tears before turning away and walking.

"I'll always find you when you call because that's been my promise in the start."

His fingers brushed against his lips as he imagined kissing her one last time.
