Chapter 25
The Holidays
Jacobs POV
Nessie just continues to amaze me. She'd been though hell that weekend.
And she still holds her head up high and pushes though.
We got the rest of her stuff out of the apartment that weekend. Had to toss some things that were a little too damaged. I even gave dad my old couch so we could keep the new one from the apartment.
Those following days were pretty chaotic to say the least. But with winter break and the tree lighting ceremony approaching Ness had a lot of other things to keep her focused.
But I can tell she has her off days, when she feels tired of looking over her shoulder. I do think the security cameras put her at ease a bit. I do catch her time to time scanning the camera footage.
Right now Ness is prepping for the tree lighting ceremony. Her students have been chosen and they've rehearsed a few days during winter break. I always get the behind the scenes look now that I'm not leaving Nessies side unless I absolutely have to.
I watch and listen from her office.
"Alright everyone, another great rehearsal. Now remember we'll only have one more rehearsal before the tree lighting this Friday so don't miss it and remember to bring your Christmas sweaters and hats in for approval and safekeeping for the performance.That'll be all, enjoy the rest of your day."
She dismissed the students and when they're all gone she comes into the office.
"Whatcha think?" She asks.
"I think it's going to be the best tree lighting ceremony this town has seen in a while." I say bringing her to sit on my lap.
"You really think so?"
"I know so."
She leans down kissing me sweetly. I grip her waist, caressing her back.
She leans her head on my shoulder and I rub deeper.
"Mmm, that feel nice. Backs been killing me." She tells me.
"You've been doing a lot lately." I comment.
"Come on, lets got home and I'll run you a bath." I say patting her leg.
Nina is glad to see us when we walk in. She immediately goes to Ness. She always goes to Ness these days. I guess she can sense how much Ness needs the distraction right now. And her cute little puppy self is just the remedy.
"Let's take her for a little walk before we settle down." Ness tells me.
"You sure? I know you're tired. I could..."
"No I want to go. I'm always cooped up in here. Let's go."
"Okay."
I put a little dog jackets on Nina and harness her up to begin our walk. Nina leads us around the block.
"So how are we handling Christmas?" She asks me.
"Well I was thinking we could celebrate Christmas Eve at my dads with Rachel, Paul and the kids. Then spend Christmas Day at Charlie and Sues house after we have our own little Christmas at home in the morning." I tell her.
"Okay that works. Aww our first Christmas together." She say happily squeezing my arm.
I smile.
"The first of many love." I say kissing her forehead.
The rest of the walk was calm except when Nina started barking at the tree line. I could see Nessie becoming a little uneasy.
"It was just a squirrel or something okay."
"Yeah you're right. I'm being silly."
"Come on let's go home, it's getting dark and it's freezing."
She nods and we head on home.
She makes us a chicken and broccoli fettuccine Alfredo. I couldn't get enough. Then a few hours before bed I ran us a nice hot bath. We lay in the tube. Her back to my chest.
"Jake?"
"Yeah baby?"
"So don't get mad.." she starts off.
"Oh no..."
"It's nothing too bad I promise. I just don't know if you'll like it."
"What is it?"i ask.
"So I made plans for us to have dinner with Vanessa and Jaxson after the tree lighting ceremony."
"Why would I get made about that?" I ask.
"I don't know, before the whole break-in you seamed determine not to hang out with them."
"We'll only because I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable. But if you want to I'm up for it."
"Okay, yeah I'm totally okay with them. More then okay. Vanessa and I have been texting a lot actually. Is that weird?" She asks. I chuckle.
"Not at all, she's a really nice person. I'm glad your getting along. Plus they're forever in my graces for pretty much saving you." I say kissing her shoulder.
"Good to head. Well I made reservation at that grill place you like on Main Street."
"Even better. I'm excited."
"Me too and if Vanessa and I are right we think you'll hit it off with Jaxson."
"Is that so?"
She nods.
"Well can't wait."
The next couple days pasted in a blink of an eye. Ness and I did some last minute shopping for the holidays. I let her handle the wrapping. According to her I was too aggressive at gift wrapping.
The last rehearsal day was here and all the kids brought in their Christmas gear. I help Nessie organize them with name tags in her office.
"Hey Mr. Black what's up?" Said Daniel a student both Nessie and I shared.
"Hey Daniel not much just helping out. You excited for the performance?" I ask.
"Yeah it's gunna be cool. Hey so some of the kids and I were wondering."
"Yeah?"
"When you gunna ask Ms. Swan to marry you?"
I chock on my saliva. He finds it hilarious
"Well Daniel it's a little early for that don't you think?"
"Mr. B, you're looking at a kid whose parent got married in Las Vegas the weekend they met. Time don't matter. It's how you feel."
"Why are you kids so concerned with your teachers love lives?" I ask with a breathy laugh.
He shrugs.
"I mean we've all seen you here single for years now with no end in site. Then boom! Ms. S comes around and you're this love sick dude. We don't blame you she's one hot..."
I clear my throat to stop his last words.
"Just saying we can all see you two are meant to be. Why wait?" Then he walks off.
Damn kids man.
But they aren't wrong I guess. That ring in my bedside table has been eating away at me.
Would it be too early to ask her. I know she's it for me but would it be rash to ask her sooner rathe then later? Damn it. Now I'm all jumbled up, thanks a lot Daniel.
The next day was the tree lighting ceremony. Nessie went to the town square early to make sure everything was set up properly.
Soon the sun began to set, the students arrived, people began circling around the square. Along with our family and friends.
"Hey bro!" Rachel greats me as the kids cling to my legs. Paul is pushing Billy's chair in our direction.
"Evening everyone,"
Edward says as he and Bella approach.
"Looks like the whole towns here." Bella tells me.
I look around at the square full of people and many familiar faces. I could see Esme and Carlisle chatting with Charlie who's still on duty by the looks of him. I even spotted Sam, Emily, Kim and Jared.
"Hello everyone, welcome to our yearly tree lighting ceremony. Tonight we're joined but faculty and students from Forks High who will be serenading us with holiday songs to ring in the holiday season and illuminate out Tree."
A city hall representative tells us.
The kids all walk onto the stage. I can see Nessie taking center stage with her back to us.
Paul held up Ryan while I held Daisy.
The stage lights flickered to life. The music began and Ness began instructing the students. The first song was Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. With each song a different set of lights would light up. They continued with Its the Most Wonderful Time of the year. Then the Classics, Jingle Bell Rock and Baby it's cold outside. With the finale being Rocking around the Christmas Tree for when the star in top flickered to life and the whole crowd cheered. Everyone was elated with the holiday spirit. Daisy and Ryan were giddy and I'm sure even more excited for the holidays. When the performance ended city hall volunteers passed out apples and candy canes to the children.
Nessie eventually found us in the swarm of people.
"Hey everyone?" She greets them all.
"Ness that was great!" Rachel praised.
"You really whipped those kids into shape." Paul said.
"I don't think we've ever had a performance like that around here." Billy said.
"Thanks you guys."
"If you think her teaching skills are good you should have seen her at the talent show in October." Bella said.
"Everyone was in awe, especially Jake." Edward says making me blush a bit.
"Oh please you guys." Nessie says sheepishly.
"Did you guys like the show?" Ness asks Daisy and Ryan.
"Yeah it's was super fun!! I can't wait till Christmas!" Says Ryan.
"Nessie? Could we sing together when Christmas is here?" Daisy asked adorably.
Ness was a goner.
"Sure sweetheart. We'll sing some songs on Christmas Eve."
The rest of the night was filled with praises from everyone around. Eventually be we were finally able to get away to make our dinner reservation with Vanessa and Jaxson.
The were already waiting for us.
"Hey sorry we're a little late." Nessie says and she gave Vanessa a hug.
"No worries at all we're only here early because we didn't get a close enough spot at the ceremony. I'm sure we would have been here at the same time if we were more in the center of the crowd."
"Jacob good to see you." Jaxson holds out his hand to shake and I take it.
"Good to see you under better circumstances Jaxson."
"I'll say, and please call me Jax."
"Hey there Renesmee, the performance was great." Jaxson says as he greats her.
"Hey Jake good to see you." Vanessa says hugging me.
"Back at you." I say with a smile.
We're taken to our table and order our food.
"I'm so glad we were able to do this." Vanessa mused.
"Me too." Nessie says.
I'm sure she's been feeling a little cooped up with the whole James situation. An evening to take her mind of that is just what she needs.
"So how long have you guys been together?" I asked.
"About two years now. We met at university, and became friends but nothing really took off completely till I moved back home and he followed me." Vanessa says
"I had a huge crush on her in college, came here to tell her how i felt and doom, domestic bliss since then." Jax says putting his arm around her.
"What about you two?" Jaxson asked.
"Well Jake has always been good friends with my sister and Brother in-law, since high school. I moved here for a teaching position." Nessie begins.
"We met at a barbecue, couldn't take my eyes off her. We started hanging out and working together and here we are." I say taking her hand in mine.
"You guys look really happy together." Vanessa says.
"We are, extremely." I tell her.
"So the high school friends, your sister and bro-in-law. Is that by chance Bella and Edward?" Vanessa asks.
"Yeah." Nessie says with a chuckle.
"I knew you looked familiar!!! Uh I was going crazy over this!" Vanessa says with a excited laugh.
"You look so much like Bella, but the curls through me off."
"That's my big sis."
"How are they? I haven't seen or heard of them since high school."
"Well, they're married of course and expecting their first child." I tell her.
"Oh my god!! That's amazing. Gosh I'm so happy for them. See Jax that could be us but nooo." She playfully swats Jaxson arm.
"I love kids but Jaxson here has a weird phobia about them." Vanessa tells us. Nessie laughs.
"It's not a phobia I just don't want to be left alone with one I'll freak out. I wouldn't know what do."
"And I keep telling you when it's your kid the instincts will just kick in."
"You guys want kids?" Jaxson asks.
Nessie tenses up a bit.
"Yeah, we want kids. One day for sure." I answer giving Nessie an optimistic look. She smiles.
"Well first you got to put a ring on it Jakey, then we'll see." She tells me.
"You tell him Ness!" Vanessa cheers.
If only she knew how close I was to asking her.
The rest of the evening went by smoothly. We shared high schools stories. Which Nessie got a big laugh from because they all made me look like a dork.
Jaxson and I got a little closer too. He likes a lot of the stuff I do. Cars, bikes, even the same movies. Ness was right we hit it off pretty well.
"Thanks again for coming out, it's been really fun." Vanessa tells us as we part ways outside.
"I had a great time. We should do it again soon." Ness replies.
"Let's all catch a movie next time." Jax suggests.
"That'd be fun." I say.
"Great!" Vanessa says in excitement.
We says our goodbyes and part ways.
"That was fun." Ness tells me.
"Yeah went better then I thought."
Fresh snow started to fall.
"Let's go home." I say pulling Ness to me to keep her warm as we walk to the car.
In the days leading up to our holiday celebrations there was an idea in the back of my mind.
As Ness showers I sit on our bed looking down at my mothers ring. When should I ask? Is it too soon to ask? Damn kids planting this idea in my head.
No. No it's too soon. We haven't even been together a year yet.
I close the box and put it back in it's hiding spot. In time Jake, in time.
When we're ready we pack up the Christmas gifts and head over to Dads. The smell of fresh baked cookies filled the air.
"Hi uncle Jake, hi aunt Nessie. Merry Christmas!!!" Ryan says happily.
"Hey kiddo! Merry Christmas!" I tell him.
He eye balls the presets we're carrying.
"Any of those for me?"
"You bet cha." Nessie tells me.
"Woohoo!!"
We greeted everyone then I placed the present around the tree. Nessie joins Rachel in the kitchen while dad, Paul, the kids and I start up a holiday movie.
"Unkle Jake?" Daisy asks.
"Yeah baby girl?"
"Should I ask Auntie Nessie if we and sings Christmas songs now or later?"
I really love that Ryan and Daisy are already calling Nessie their Auntz
"Why don't you go ask her right now I'm sure she's up for it.?"
"Otay!"
She jumpy to her feet and heads into the kitchen.
I turn back to the movie. Jingle all the Way was always one of my favorites. Super cheesy, but a classic. I start hearing holiday music in the kitchen. I turn to look Into the kitchen and Ness is singing and dancing with Daisy. Rachel happily watching them as she mashes potatos. I watch them myself. Mesmerized, I can just picture Ness doing the same with our little girl. I want that with Ness. I want her to experience that more then anything.
"She's a natural." Dad comments.
"That she is."
"When you gunna make an honest women out of her?" Paul ask.
"In time."
Jeez why is everyone on my back about this?
When dinner is ready we all take a seat, dad gives a nice speech about family and the holidays.
The food was all delicious.
"I'm full!!!" Ryan exclaimed.
"Can we open pwesent now?" Daisy ask.
"First bath and Jammies. Then presents." Rachel tells them.
I don't think they've ever wanted to take a bath as much as they did in that moment.
Dad rolls his seat by the fire. Ness rests her back against my chest as we lounged on the sofa waiting for the kids.
They both rush in dressed in Christmas Pajamas, bathed and ready to open gifts.
"Can I go first?" Ryan asks.
"Why don't you open one with your sister first buddy." Paul suggests as he pulls out a big box from under the tree.
Daisy and Ryan shred the wrapping paper. The look of pure joy was painted in their faces.
These kids were spoiled to bits.
They got so many toys and clothes not that they cared much for the clothes.
Once all their presents were opened and they were preoccupied. The adults began opening gifts.
Ness and I got a set of tools for Paul, new carving knives for dad, spa items for Rachel. Dad got me and Ness matching ugly Christmas sweater. Nessie loved them.
"And this is from Paul and I." Rachel says handing Ness and envelopes.
"What is it?" I ask Ness and she opens the envelope.
"Two round trip ticket vouches... Rachel."
"We know it's been rough lately. Thought you two could use a little trip."
"You guys that's really thoughtful. Thank you." I tell them sincerely.
The rest of the night was just movies and Christmas treats. Ness and I offers to tuck in the kids before we left.
"Merry Christmas you two." I say kissing their foreheads.
"Merry Christmas Uncle Jake."
"Sweet dreams you guys." Nessie says kissing them too.
"Nessie?" Daisy asks.
"Yeah baby girl?"
"Thank you fow singing Chwistmas songs with me."
"Of course sweetheart."
"Can we do that evewy Chwistmas?"
"You can count on it."
Daisy smiles happily at the answer.
"Okay guys lights out. We love you." I tell them.
"Nite nite. Love you two."
And with that we said our goodbyes and went on home.
"That was one of, if not the best Christmas eves I've had in a while." Nessie muses and we drive home.
"And it's not over yet."
"It's 12:30, Christmas Eve is over."
"Okay we'll then get ready for your best Christmas Day."
"What are you up to." She asks.
"You'll see."
"You and your surprises."
"Oh you love them."
"Perhaps."
We arrived home and got ready for bed. Nessie's looking at the ticket vouchers when I come into the bedroom.
"So where do you want to go?" She asks.
"I have no idea. Never really been anywhere."
"Well we have time to decide."
"Indeed."
I slip into bed and Nessie curls into my side.
When morning comes Nessie is so excited to have our first Christmas together. She and Nina bounce about the living room.
"Come on come on let's open presents."
"Gosh Ness I think you're more excited then Daisy and Ryan were last night." I tease her.
"Oh shut up. Open!" She says handing me a gift.
Ness got me a new set of drill bit tools, several arrivals of clothing including a new Leather jacket she just had to shove me into first thing. And a new watch. I loved it all, you could tell she put a lot of thought into it.
"And for course our little Nina gets her own Christmas present." Nessie says giving Nina a nice chew-bone and squeaky toy. What will keep Nina entertained for hours.
"Okay your turn." I say tossing her one of her gifts.
I might have gone a little over board but what can I say I love her and I love spoiling her.
I got her all kinds of bath bombs. The perfume she always wears. A few arrivals of clothing. Plus a good amount of lace panties. Okay maybe those are more for me.
Then there was the bracelet I got with her birthstone. Plus some small things I knew she was eyeing when we'd go to the store.
But the last gift, oh the last gift is a big surprise.
"Okay Ness, I got one more gift for you."
"Jakey! You've given me so much already. I got to set a limit for next year. You don't know when to stop."
I lean down and kiss her.
"Even if you set a limit on gifts, I'll still get you everything I think you deserve."
"Jake..."
She kisses me again. It's hard to pull away but I need to give her this.
"Okay close your eyes." I tell her.
She huffs but shuts her eyes.
I head to the garage and pull out my big present. Nessie's New guitar. A new Gibson melody maker to replace the one James destroyed. Only I couldn't find the white model so I went with the black. I made sure the bow was on nice and tight before heading back to the living room.
"Eyes are still closed tight?"
"Yes of course." She replies.
I stand in front of her.
"On the count of three open your eyes okay?"
"Okay."
"One...two...THREE."
Her eyes snap open and go wide all at the same time. Her mouth agape with shock before her hands come up to cover her mouth.
"Merry Christmas Nessie."
"J..Jake...you...that's..."
She was speechless.
"I know it's not white but..."
"It's perfect Jake...I...I can't believe you'd get me this...how much was..."
"The price isn't important, I just want to see you as happy as possible again." I say handing it to her.
She holds it, looks it over and begins to tear up.
I kneel down and kiss her softly.
"I love you so much." She tells me.
"I know."
She chuckles and goes back to examining her new guitar.
She spent all morning fiddling with it.
Eventually she set it down long enough to get ready to head over to Charlie's.
We packed up the rest of the presents and went over to Charlie's.
When we walked into the house It was like Christmas throw up in Charlie's house. Every inch of the house was decorated. Sue really goes all out.
"Oh good! You guys are here. Just waiting on Bella and Edward now." Sue said as she greeted us.
Once we placed present under the tree Ness went to help Sue and Leah set the table. I went out back to help Charlie and Seth with the grill.
"Hey bro!!" Seth said to me.
"Hey Seth." I say hugging him.
"Happy Holidays Jake." Charlie said giving me a hug as well.
"Seth why don't you go fetch the chicken Sue has prepped in the fridge?" Charlie asks.
"Sure thing." Seth says as he heads back into the house.
I stand next to Charlie over a grill that was filled with stake and rubs.
"I got to say Barbecue for Christmas dinner is new." I say with a laugh.
"Yeah, well I was getting pretty fed up it's all the ham and Turkey."
"I hear you."
"So Jake, I little bird told me you have your mothers ring hidden away somewhere."
My palms got a little sweaty then. Damn it dad.
"Oh Umm, yeah yeah I do. But I...I think it's too soon right? Plus I...I haven't even asked for your permission yet so I..."
"You have my permission son. I agree I think it's a little soon. That ol' dad of your is quite the love at first sight kind of guy. But I do see how much you love and care for my daughter. I hoped for a long time she'd find someone to treat her the way she deserves. I know you can take care of her, protect her, provide for her. So, you absolutely have my permission."
"I...I don't know what to say. Thank you Charlie."
"Think nothing of if. But of course if you do break my baby's heart I will hunt you down."
I chuckled nervously.
"No need to worry there sir."
Thats when Nessie and Seth came out to us.
"There you are dad."
She says giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"And what were you to talking about?"
"Nothing much, sports. I hear the Mariners have a good chance next season."
"Oh you boys." She says rolling her eyes.
Bella and Edward arrived just as the food was ready.
"Sorry we're late. Bella was having a wardrobe malfunction." Edward explained.
"I'm gunna need maternity clothes soon." She exclaimed as she kept tugging on her blouse.
"We'll go pick some out tomorrow." Edward says kissing her temple.
"Well let's dig in I'm starving." Said Seth.
Dinner was amazing. Charlie was right a Bbq Christmas dinner hit the spot.
Like last night we all sat around the living room exchanging gifts.
"Okay I know you said no baby gift till the baby shower but I couldn't resist."
Nessie says handing a box to Bella.
"Speaking of which. We're planning the shower at the beginning of February." Edward tells us all.
"So soon?" Sue asks.
"Well the doctor said he would be able to tell the baby's gender at our next visit. So we want to make it a baby shower and gender reveal party. Plus Alice has been begging to start party preparations for the baby." Bella say.m rolling her eyes.
"I can't wait! Please let me be the one to pick the revel method." Nessie practically begs Bella.
"I'm glad you said that, because you're the only one I trust not to spill the beans to anyone."
They both laugh and Bella open the gift. Nessie went ham on baby onesies with cute and funnies designs.
"Thanks Munchkin, I love it. And the baby's gunna love them." Bella says holding one of the onesies against her baby bump.
As we finished our gift exchange the phone rang.
"Oh I'll get that." Sue said.
She came back into the room moments later.
"Honey, it's Deputy Harper." She tells Charlie.
Charle reaches out and takes the phone. Sue looked a little worried.
"Swan here." Charlie answers.
Everyone was tying not to ease drop but it was all we could really do.
"And they're sure it's him?" Charlie asks.
"Alright, yeah I'll be there as soon as I can."Charlie hangs up.
"What was that about?" Bella asks.
Charlie takes a deep breath looks to Nessie and back to Bella.
"They just got a tip from a shop owner in Port Angeles. Said he saw James in the area. Says he has footage of him in the store. Port Angeles police were nice enough to bring the footage to the station, gunna head out. Take a closer look at it. Then maybe head out first thing in the morning and comb though the port Angeles shops in the area."
"So...this could be a breakthrough to actually finding him." Ness says.
"Yeah hopefully baby girl."
Charlie quickly got himself ready and we did our goodbyes.
Ness was in the weird spot of fear and relief. I wrapped my arms tight around her. I run my lips over her ear, past her cheek and down her neck. Where I kiss her tenderly.
I can feel the tension in her shoulders give.
"It's going to be okay baby."
"I know."
It was starting to get late and we were all calling it a night. We said our goodbyes and head out to our homes.
When we arrived home Nina was fast asleep with her new toy.
Nessie ploped down onto our bed.
"Penny for your thoughts." I say.
"Is it that obvious that I'm over thinking?"
"Just to me, you always go quiet when you have something on your mind. Talk to me."
"I just want this to be over, you know that. I want my dad to be safe. I don't want anyone getting hurt. I'm tired of James ruining everything. I can't even have a nice Christmas without him coming up."
"By next Christmas this will all be over with. And he'll never interfere again."
"That's what I'm hoping for."
I turn and lean over her.
"Why don't I help you forget he ever popped up today." I say brushing my hand over her hip.
"Oh and how would you help me forget?" She asks playing along.
"There's a few ways I can help with that. But first I'd have to help you out of these constricting clothes you have on." I say unbuttoning her blouse.
"Well by all means." She says with a smirk.
I smile. Leaning forward I catch her lips. I kiss her as I begin unbuttoning her clothes.
"Mmm, Jakey..." she moans.
I then make quick work on her jeans.
She pulls at my shirt and I discard it for her as she runs her hands up and down my chest. Her nails scratching me with want and need. Her hands hook into the waist band of my jeans.
"Off. Now." She says.
I chuckle.
"So impatient."
"For you, always. I need you now."
I lean down kissing her hard. I lower my jeans and kick them aside.
She cages me in her legs. My member sliding against her wetness. She's so wet I slipped in so easily.
I made love to her passionately. Wanting to alleviate her worries for a least a moment.
When we were spent. We hopped in the shower and settled ourselves into bed. Just as we were relaxing our phones went off. The cameras tripwire was alerted. Someone was in our front yard. Nessie went to view the footage.
"I can't tell who it is...they...there wearing a hooded jacket...I...I don't think it's James though but.."
She goes silent when the person knocks on the door. I have to admit I was on edge myself. I grabbed the taser gun.
"Call Charlie, lock this door." I say as I head out of the room.
"Please be careful." She tells me.
I kiss her forehead.
I walk to the front door. Nina is already hyper aware of the situation.
They knock on the door again.
"Who is it!?" I ask.
Silence.
"Identify yourself now!" I shout.
"It...it's Lauren."
Lauren?
"What are you doing here!?" I ask though the door.
"I...I ran. I ran away for James. I'm here to help."
"The police will be here soon." I tell her.
"Good." Was all she said.
I'm stunned. Was she really hear to help? Did she really run? Or was this another trick?
"Look I...I know you don't trust me and I know I did some messed up things. I didn't know they were going to go that far with Renesmee. Trust me I now want that asshole behind bars as much as you do." She tells me.
I could then hear sirens. And a car pull up.
"Put your hand where I can see them!" Charlie said.
"Down on the ground."
After a few minutes Charlie knocked on the door.
"Everything okay in here?" He asked when I opened the door.
"Yeah just startled."
"Is Renesmee alright?" He asked.
"Let me go check on her."
I knock on our bedroom door.
"Baby it's alright now."
I call out. But get no answer.
"Ness?" I call out again as I reach for the skeleton key hidden above the door frame.
"I'm coming in baby!" I call out.
When I enter the room I can hear Nessie heaving in the bathroom. I run to her.
"Baby are you okay?" I ask concerned
"Y...yeah I just felt kind of sick and light headed." She answered flushing the toilet and heading to the sink. She looked pale as a ghost.
"You sure your okay?" I ask concerned.
"Yeah yeah I'm fine, promise. Just got scared."
"Oh baby, everything is fine. Charlie's here." I say cupping her face.
"Who was it?" She asked.
"Lauren" I answered.
Her eyes widen in shock.
Lauren POV
I was done. James was loosing it. The more the cops closed in the more aggressive he got. The moment he struck me it was game over. Not because he hit me but because of the fear I saw in Victoria's eyes. It made it clear to me that he had also raise his hand to her. And if he could do it to me without a second though I couldn't begin to imagine what he's done to Vicky. That bastard.
I knew I was in the wrong, that I would be charged with aiding a criminal but I don't care. I'd go down with him if it means saving my cousin from that animal.
"Lauren?" The chief of police said.
"Yes."
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand?" He asks.
"I do, and I just want to say. That I'm here to help you catch that son of a bitch."
The cops eyebrows rise in surprise.
He sure as hell wasn't excepting that.
