Jack was the first to burst through door. He looked around and spotted her. She was sitting on the couch with her face buried in her hands, crying. He started to slowly walk towards her, but froze when she lifted her head to look at him. It was Rose.
"No way.." he thought to himself. He took another step closer, this one smaller than the last. "I..." He began as the shock of seeing her set in deeper. "I.. Ro.. Rose..?" He managed to squeak out.
She scooted herself as far as she could into the side of the couch. Her body shaking, but her cries fading away. She pulled her knees up to her chest and screamed "YOU'RE DEAD! YOU'RE DEAD..." She began to shake uncontrollably. "I let you... I let you go.. I.. I.." she trailed off..
"Jack.." she croaked before turning over onto her stomach and shaking his hand with all the strength she could gather.
"Jack.. Jack.." He didn't answer. His face was covered in ice and his hands were cold.
"JACK!" she tried again. It was that moment she decided he was gone.
"I'll never let go, Jack." She said as she kissed his hand and pried their hands apart.
Slowly, she removed her hand from his and let him go. She watched as he disappeared into the North Atlantic.
He felt so bad for her. The horror and the pain she must have felt that night. "You thought I was dead..." He whispered. He took another step closer and lifted his arm out as to touch her to make sure she was really there. "I thought you were..." He choked on his words, not able to finish.
"Don't touch me." She said. "Please just go away.." she buried her head into her knees and placed her hands over her ears. She was convinced this was just another cruel dream because she knew for a fact that he was dead.
"Rose.. I'm not... I'm not dead.."
"Please stop." She begged. "it's happening again " She thought to herself. "I have to make it stop." She screamed as she dug her head further into her knees and applied more pressure to her hands.
Not being able to take the screaming anymore, Jack reached out his hand and touched an arm. "Rose.." he rubbed a finger over her arm "It's really me." He said.
The touch made something inside of her click. She slowly removed her hands from her ears and lifted her head from her knees. She pulled her legs back down and slowly found Jack's eyes with her own. "Jack..." She whispered as she slowly lifted a hand and brought it up to his cheek. "You're not... You're not cold.. You were so cold that dreadful night.. you're.." Her eyes grew wide and her body started to tremble. "Jack.." she cried as she slowly pulled her hand away.
Quietness filled the room as the two of them sat in silence, staring at each other. Both afraid to blink, for fear one of them would disappear.
Alice and Joseline had been standing in the door way watching the scene unfold in front of them. Alice had Joseline wrapped up in a tight, but protective loving hug. Alice's face was tear stained while Joseline was too shocked to cry. She watched her mother and Jack, in bewilderment.
She looked up at Alice and cleared her throat "So that's my Father.." she frowned, not because she was sad that he was her father, but because she was a very confused girl in that moment.
Alice looked down at the girl and smiled as she wiped away the fresh tears that were falling. "Yes." She pulled the girl even tighter into the hug and rubbed her hair as she looked back towards Rose and Jack.
"So that would make you.. my... My Aunt, correct?" She smiled. "Aunt Ali.." she giggled slightly.
Alice shook her head "Yes ma'am!.. Aunt Ali has a nice ring to it. I like it!" She smiled down at the girl, trying to bring her some comfort. She knew this had to be very hard for her. Not only did she just witness her mothers near breakdown, but she just found her dad after all these years of thinking he had died.
