Chapter nine
I was contemplating visiting my old friends at court, but frankly I was afraid. Sure Lissa asked the crew I was in to cover the entertainment, so I guess she wanted to see me.
"Go see her" Jake interrupted my thoughts.
"Have I told you lately how mush I hate it when you try to read my mind? "
"Don't need to. We're in court you have a family here."
"So now you're calling me predictable."
"Just go."
"Fine." I got up and walked out. When I arrived to the palace however I wasn't let in. I didn't have an appointment and I wasn't on the pre-approved list. I should have thought of this before. Guess we would have to get creative later today.
As I turned around I looked into the eyes that kept haunting me.
"Guardian Belikov." I greeted him. "Rose", he answered. Auwsh, guess I wasn't worthy of a title to him anymore. Or a nockname "What are you doing here? " he followed up his greeting.
"I was going to visit my dear old friend, but apparently I need an appointment for that. And with the wedding within a week, she's pretty booked. I guess I'll see at the wedding itself". I didn't mention that I was going to sneak in later tonight. Who knew where his loyalty's lay at the moment. Last time we saw each other, they weren't with me.
"Rose, I'd like to speak with you to, in private that is." He stated as I started to walk around him.
"Why?"
"Because I didn't like the way we left tings" huh.
"I'm sorry, but you're losing me. We left things exactly how you wanted them to be left, never mind my own wishes. You didn't want me around you, and that is exactly what happened. It really isn't my fault that Christian planned his bachelor in the town we protect. I'm sorry that was an inconvenience for you." I finish my monologue and left him standing in the street.
My thoughts were still with the past conversation when I got back to the gym that was appointed to for the week. It felt a little childish even to me. Didn't I want to show everyone I wasn't a child anymore? That I should be treated with respect? Grate way to show him you've grown up Rose…
No Rose, you don't care what he thinks…
Yeah right keep fooling yourself.
The team felt the wrath of my inner turmoil as I order a surprise sparing match to make a knew ranking. I wasn't taking any prisoners.
"You now Rose We aren't supposed to be covered in black and blue marks by the time of our performance so as captain of the group I'm calling quits on fighting and we're going to start rehearsing our showpiece." Maddie called out after one particular harsh fall from Fred.
As said (ordered) as done. The next few hours we practiced our most complicated piece. It was a very fast paced waltz with tango elements on that famous Moulin Rouge song. The dance itself was difficult enough with spins, lifts, throws, slides and all kind of other stuff, but it was the costume was what made it a real bitch.
We were all dead on our toes by the time we moved to our rooms to shower and then got out for dinner. We picked a food place closest to our accommodation that had all the typical dinner food. It was no surprise most people there were dhampirs. Luckily most ignores us.
"Okay", I called attention of the table. "Meet me at six in the morning for a little jog you fuckers" I called out as I threw the money down I owned for my meal as left the table.
"Little jog my ass, I'm gonna be dead before the day starts." I heard behind me.
"EEH! Rose?" Lissa yelped as she saw me standing in the dark corner.
" You know, sneaking into the Queens chambers is concerningly easy." I said as greeting. Right before I heard commotion outside. I got back in an invisible spot as the door busted open and a royal guard stepped in. "Your Grace, everything alright?"
" Just fine guardian Feller, I thought I saw spider, It was just a shadow." Lissa answered smoothly with an apologetic smile.
The guardian smiled back gave a small nod and closed the door. Lissa let out a sigh and turned back in my direction. "Rose?"
"You even lie as good as any politician."
"Not FUNNY!" she whisper shouted as she ran towards me and I took a few steps forwards to catch her in my arms even though she was still taller than me. We stood there for a good ten minutes with her arms and legs wrapped around me.
"Congratulations on you're engagement F.Y.I" I said sheepishly.
"Thanks." She said.
"Where is Christian?"
"Oh he is still out the Adrian."
"They've gotten close?" I asked I started to look at all the pictures on the wall. There where some old ones but most of them were from resent years, without me, whit people I didn't know. Of course she moved on. What was expecting that my old friends my lives would have stopped because I wasn't around? Maybe my ego bigger than I knew myself.
"Oh yes, I think its because both are high ranking In the big picture but when it comes down to it, they are both still kind of the black sheep." She explained.
And then it was awkward silence.
I guess I was the one who address the elephant in the room.
"Why did you book my crew, Lissa"
She looked flabbergasted and hurt. "Would you have come if I didn't book the crew you work with? Is it that weird that I wanted my best friend that I've known since I was five years old present at what should be the happiest day of my life?" Her face was calm again, her voice cold, as if betrayed. There was just a bitt of moisture in her eyes.
"No Liss, but, if you knew where I was, why didn't you reach out sooner? "
"You're the one that left, you never contacted us after that sorry excuse of a letter. Seemed to me like you wanted to be left alone. "
Ouch,
"Where doing good work there Lissa." I said as if that was an excuses for ignoring court for the last years.
"I know, I know about the problems in that aria. And we're grateful that there are people out there dealing whit it. I just hoped you would forget about us."
"I just wanted to be gone for a while and then I didn't know how to start again." I said before adding. "Thank you for taking the first step in the end, I needed that." I smiled sheepishly. "Even if it came in the form of a sparkplug."
She let out a small laugh and the tension in room disappeared. After that conversation flowed more easily, catching up on each other lives and the gossip about our old classmates from saint Vladimir. It wasn't until Christian entered with Dimitri on his heel that I noticed how long I'd been here.
"Rosie?"
"Rose?"
"Sparkplug, Comrade. Nice to see you both"
"How did you get in?" Dimitri asked looking around.
"Well, lets just say, court security leaves mush to be desired, I'll fill you in on the blank spots before I leave again." I said a peace offering. "Anyhow now that you are in better company again, I should go, I have an entire day of studying routines tomorrow." I told them as I got up. An hugged Lissa. "I'll see myself out" And I walk towards the adjoining room trough which I had gotten in an hour prior.
"Rose" Dimitri stopped me. "The exit is that way", he said pointing behind him
"Is it?' I said in a low voice, then winked.
Great now I'm flirting again with the Russian God.

All in all. I don't feel like i have the right to complain about covid. Sure I lost my job last year but I was able to find a knew one pretty quickly. Only my sister got infected and that was just the loss of taste and smell. My wedding is post-phoned indefinitly, but these are small things compared to some others.
