Hello! I'm back with this story! It will probably have just one chapter though. I'm planning on rewriting Tri, so I don't want to go further into this and be out of ideas for the rewrite. Anyway, this chapter will have scenes from the previous ones, so I strongly suggest you go read the rewritten version on AO3 since I won't be editing the old ones here. I'll leave the link in my bio, but I'm under the name sorato_fan there. I hope you enjoy this one! See you next month! xoxo
PS: Flashback in italic.
I and the others finally found a place to set our camp up after another long day of walking and exploring the new Digital World. It also helped our partners to grow stronger and evolve to their Rookie levels. The boys decided to take rounds in watching the place, despite my protests to take part as well. They came up with the same old argument that this is not something that girls do. Boys.
Taichi was sitting by a lake near something that used to be a waterfall. He looked around as the memories were awakened in his mind for the first time in years.
[Taichi 's POV]
'I cannot believe we have been fooled again!' I thought to myself as I kicked a small rock in the village.
"There's no way we could have predicted they were bad Digimon." Sora replied, as if she knew exactly what I was thinking. Does she read minds or something?
"But we could have been cautious about it." Jou is always looking at the bright side. Not.
"Regretting won't help us now. We have to come up with a plan to rescue Tokomon and then leave." Koushiro closed his laptop and stood up, placing it under his arm.
'Agumon should have come back by now' I held my digivice hard to contain my concern.
"What's wrong, Taichi?"
"Uh… nothing!" I shook my head to convince everyone it was all fine. "I'm gonna find Agumon. I'll be right back."
"But Taichi…"
As I left the village, I looked up and saw some smoke coming from somewhere in the woods. It has to be Agumon! I started running towards the smoke and came across a waterfall. I stepped behind the cascade, watering myself in the process, and found a bunch of Pagumon, and Tokomon in a cage.
"I knew you'd find me, Taichi."
"Of course I would." I bent down and hugged him. "It was very clever to use your attack in the water, to make smoke."
"Thank you." He gave an embarrassed laugh.
"So this is where they brought you." I stood up and walked to the cage, analyzing it. "There has to be a way to get you out."
"I thought no one would find me."
"Don't be silly. You're Takeru's partner. We wouldn't leave you behind. He needs you. We all do."
Suddenly a familiar voice echoed all over the place. I stood up and turned to Agumon.
"Taichi, it's Etemon."
"I know." I nodded my head as I grabbed my digivice. "Are you ready?"
"Taichi! Are you alright?"
Yamato and the others came running to where we were.
"Yes. I found Tokomon."
"Are you serious?" Takeru asked and then got past me to see his friend. "I was so worried about you."
"The Pagumon kidnapped me when I was sleeping."
"We should help Greymon in the fight." Gabumon said and Yamato immediately understood his message.
We watched the two Digimon be defeated by some of Etemon's army and we got further into the cave. Suddenly a blinding orange light illuminated the whole place and my tag was kind of attracted to it. Then it started getting smaller to the size of a tablet, with a symbol of what looked like a sun, and it got into the transparent part of my tag.
"It looks like you found your crest."
"Yeah." I tightened my grip around my crest, proud and happy.
"Brother, what are you doing?" Hikari sat down next to him.
"Aren't you supposed to be sleeping?"
"Yes, but I'm having trouble sleeping." She embraced her legs and pulled them close to her chest. "So, what are you thinking?"
"Ah, it's nothing…" He scratched the back of his head. "This place looks so different right now. It used to be so bright and there was a waterfall over there."
"It must have been a special place for all of you. I wish I could have been part of it as well."
There was a hint of sadness in the tone of her voice.
"This is where I found my crest. Right there, inside the waterfall."
"I'm so sorry it isn't the way you used to know anymore."
"It's okay. A couple of years have gone by since we came here. Of course it would be different."
"So, what happened after you found your crest? I was told the story, but I want to hear it from you. Oh, and…" Hikari half turned around and saw someone behind a tree. "There's someone who might want to hear it as well. Come here, Agumon."
Taichi turned around to where his sister was looking and couldn't help but smile when his partner felt unsure whether to join them or not.
"It's okay. You were part of it as well, a very important part."
"Maybe this will help him get some memories back."
"That's a very smart idea, sis. We should all do that to reactivate their memories."
"I'm not sure this will be a good idea for Plotmon." Hikari let her head fall ahead a little.
"Why not?"
"Because I didn't go to summer camp with you, remember? She was waiting for me the whole time and I…" She bit her lower lip to hold her tears. "…I never arrived. Because of me she was separated from the others."
"Hey, it's not your fault." Taichi said in a reassuring way and placed his hand on her shoulder. "You were sick, so you had a reason. It's not like you didn't want to go. She understood it last time and I'm sure she will this one."
"I know." She wiped the tears in the corner of her eye. "I guess I hadn't forgiven myself yet after all."
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Hikari. Everyone is bound to mess things up, but that's definitely not your case. I know each one of us is going to revive things we want to forget in order to bring our partner's memories back, but always remember our mom didn't let you go to the camp and that she was looking after you."
She placed her hand over his, looked at him and smiled. "I will try to remember that. Thanks, brother."
"I'll always be here if you need me. You know that, right?"
"Yes, I do." She hugged him. "The same works for you. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
Agumon watched the siblings share a special moment, but couldn't quite understand why.
"Humans are weird." He said while Taichi and Hikari let go of each other. "That's what you are, right?"
They couldn't help but laugh.
"Yes, that's what we are." His partner said with a smile and stretched his arms. "It's gonna be a long night."
"I should probably try to sleep." Hikari looked towards the camp and stood up. "You really don't want me to stay with you?"
"No, I'll be fine. Besides, Agumon is with me in case something happens."
"Alright. We'll be right over there if you need extra help."
"Thanks, Hikari."
From behind a tree, Yamato was watching the whole scene with the Yagami siblings and didn't even notice me coming behind him. I couldn't help but laugh when he jumped at the sound of my voice.
"That was so nice of you to scare me like that." He said with a playful tone.
"What? Aren't you the one who brags you don't get scared easily?" I teased back.
"Only if I'm not focused on something."
"Right." I stuck my tongue at him. "Seems to me you still get scared pretty easily."
"Now you just look like a twelve year old." He let out a warm laugh.
"Stop it!" I said with a smile.
"For the record, I don't get scared easily. I just don't like scary stories." He leaned back against the tree. "So what are you doing here? I thought you'd be sleeping by now."
"I couldn't clear my mind. There are a lot of thoughts in my head."
"What are you thinking?"
"Oh, you know…" I looked away for a moment, and then back. "It's been too much for me. This whole thing."
"You're lying."
"Excuse me?"
"You look away when you don't want to go straight to the point."
"I do not!"
"Fine. If you want to believe that, it's not my problem."
"I don't even know why I still bother with you." I turned around to leave.
"You came here to talk about us?"
"It doesn't matter, does it?" I turned around again and started talking louder. "You wouldn't believe me anyway."
"Sor, wait." He began walking towards me. "I'm sorry."
"Whatever, Yamato. I thought we could work things out, but apparently not."
"You know I've been trying to get back with you for weeks! Why can't you just give me a chance?"
"I was going to, but you just showed me it would be a mistake."
"I don't know what to do. I don't know what else I can do to prove to you that things will be different now."
"You don't have to prove anything to me. It's more than clear."
"Of course. You only believe what you want. You don't even bother to let your opinions be changed. Since when you became so close-minded?"
"Since you and Taichi kept forcing me to choose between you two, alright!" Tears began falling from my eyes like a cascade. "You both can't stop jumping on each other's throats, remember?"
"And I am telling you it's not gonna happen anymore, but you won't listen to me! Sora, I love you! Is that so hard to understand?"
Yamato walked to me and I was once again unable to move. I watched him wiping my tears away with his thumbs and then cupping my face with his hands, but somehow I couldn't react. Next thing I knew, I had my arms around his neck as he lowered his head to kiss me. I parted my lips when I felt his tongue wanting to get inside and the kiss got deeper. His hands slid to the lower of my back and he pulled me further against his body, if that was even possible. When I broke the kiss and pulled away, he leaned over for a few more brief ones. He then buried his head on my shoulder. My hands stopped at the higher of his arms as I rested my own head against his chest, closing my eyes.
"I love you too." The words slipped from my mouth before I could stop them. Not that I didn't love him or want to say it, but I wanted to be careful. Oh well, it's done. Even if I wasn't looking at him, I knew he was smiling. I pulled away from him and put two locks of my hair behind my ears before I looked up to meet his intent blue eyes. "Let's just take things slow, okay?"
"Okay, I can do that." He reached for my hand, still looking into my eyes. Seeing his smile made me automatically smile too. "We should go back. It's already late and it can be dangerous."
"Yeah." I said simply and let myself be guided by him towards the camping.
I let go from Yamato's hand when I felt something passing by my feet in a fast pace. I looked over my shoulder and saw Piyomon going further into the forest.
"What happened?" He asked me with a worried expression, also over his shoulder.
"It's nothing." I flashed him a reassuring smile. "I just need to do something before I get back."
Yamato nodded, seeming to understand what I meant. "Well, I'll be right there if you need anything."
"Thank you, but I'll be fine."
I patiently watched him walking away, though I was desperate to go after Piyomon. I ran after her as soon as I was sure he was as far as possible not to hear me stepping onto the leaves.
"Piyomon!" I cupped my mouth with both my hands, so that my voice echoed around louder. I heard something mutter behind a tree not too far from me. I made my way towards it, leaning my back at the opposite side of it. "What are you doing here? We should go back to the camping. It's safer there."
"I'm staying here!" She said angrily and flew to a tree trunk, landing over it. Her eyes were narrowed and full of anger. "Leave me alone!"
"But we're partners..."
"I said I don't remember you!" She shouted. "And I don't know you! So stop saying that."
"But Piyomon, I..."
"Go away! You mean nothing to me!"
I lowered my head after hearing those hurtful words and turned my back to her before letting the tears fall from my eyes. I would have never imagined she would hate me so much. Feeling hopeless, I slowly started making my way back towards the camping, paying extremely attention to my surroundings.
From time to time I looked over my shoulder, hoping to see Piyomon flying along. But she was still on that trunk and seemed to be sleeping already. I turned my head back and something in the corner of my eye caught my attention. It was a bright yellow light made its way up to the sky. I looked around for a place to hide, but couldn't find anything large enough for me to protect myself. I grew desperate when the ground started to shake, but still wasn't able to move, even when the Digimon came to view.
"Mugendramon?" I blinked in shock. I didn't even realize its tail was aiming towards me as I was forcefully pulled down to the ground.
"Sora, what the hell are you doing?" Yamato asked me as he pulled away from me after making sure it was safe enough. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I replied as I stood up. "Thanks for saving me. How did you know I was here, by the way?"
"I noticed you were taking too long to come back and then the ground started shaking. It wasn't that difficult to find you."
"You should take her back. It's not safe being here." Piyomon landed next to us; her eyes were still narrowed.
"I'm not leaving without you."
"What is happening here? Why are her eyes like this?"
"Nothing is happening. Everything's..."
"She keeps saying I'm her partner, but I don't remember her at all. And I don't like her."
"What?! Piyomon…" My eyes filled with tears and I fell on my knees. I covered my face with my hands as tears fell down my face.
"Hey! You shouldn't be so mean to her." Yamato yelled beside me. "Sora doesn't deserve it, she loves you!"
"You have no right to tell me what I should do." Piyomon snapped and then flew off towards the camping.
"I'm sorry." I whispered when my sobs seemed to cease a little. "She shouldn't have been rude to you."
"You don't have to apologize. It's not your fault. I know sometimes Piyomon let her emotions take control." He knelt down beside me and touched my shoulders reassuringly. "I had no idea she was behaving that way towards you. It must be difficult for you to deal with this. Has it been happening since we arrived here?"
I simply nodded positively, without looking at him. I removed my hands from my face and placed them on my thighs, above my skirt. "The last thing I wanted was to make people worry about me or feeling bad because I couldn't make a connection with my partner. And it would seem insensitive of me to talk about this to you or any of you because you were making big progresses with yours."
"And that's why you decided to keep it to yourself. It doesn't surprise me." Yamato looked down and gave an awkward laugh. "I wish you told me sooner. I would've helped you with it."
"I wanted to handle it on my own." I said slowly. "I thought things would get easier as time went by, but they are only getting harder. I don't know what else I can do to get through her. It hurts me to see how she enjoys other people's company more than mine."
"Hey, I'm sure she will come around and things will get better for the two of you." He gently grabbed my forearm and helped me stand up. "Are you feeling better now?"
"I am, thank you." I finally looked at him and smiled softly. "I'm sorry for putting you into this risk."
"I worry about you, Sor." He let go of my arm and took a look around. Mugendramon was still there, but luckily he somehow seemed to forget about us "What matters is that you're safe. We should get out of here before Mugendramon notices our presences again and charges another attack towards us."
My eyes widened and I instantly held Yamato's hand when the two cannons on Mugendramon's back were filled with yellow energy, ready to shoot. I managed to look up at Yamato and saw his eyes full of panic. We wouldn't have enough time to run for our lives in time.
