Chapter Eighteen

FBI Headquarters…

War Room…

Charlie was still thinking through the equation when his phone rang, which startled him, and he was also annoyed, as he felt he was getting close to figuring it out.

'This call better be important.' He thought as he answered the call

"Who is this?" Charlie demanded

"Someone who has information you need, Professor Eppes." The voice on the other end said

"Who is this and what kind of information?" Charlie demanded

"You can call me Brian and the information is the location of your brother and father." The other voice finally said

Charlie froze when he heard the man say that last part, as he had no idea if he should believe this man or not.

"How do I know you are telling me the truth?" Charlie demanded as Larry and Ian walked into the room to hear the last part of the conversation.

"Well, that is up to you but I need to meet with you, as your brother, Agent Don Eppes, is in bad shape and needs to get help." Brian told him

"Where do you want to meet?" Charlie asked, still feeling skeptical to this man's claims, but he was desperate and he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't follow this lead.

"I will meet you at the gas station near the mall and I will tell you what you need to know about this case." Brian told him

"Is there something else you are not telling me?" Charlie asked, feeling like the man was holding something back.

"I prefer not to tell you over the phone, just in case, I will tell you in person." Brian answered cryptically

"Fine, but you better tell me every single thing you know and why you are calling me and not the FBI." Charlie said

"I promise that I will." Brian said before hanging up the phone.

Charlie turned to Larry and Ian, who were mostly confused at what Charlie was talking about one the phone, Ian quickly picked up on what was going on.

"Guys, I need you to come with me." Charlie said

"Okay, but I have a strange feeling about this guy, what is he promising, exactly?" Ian asked, worried about his younger friend

"He said that he knows where Don and my father are and that he doesn't want to discuss anything more on the phone."

"I need to call the acting director for this but I think I will hold off on that." Ian said

"Are you sure?" Charlie asked

"Yes, because if the man can't talk on the phone, someone in one of the agencies may be involved and might try to eliminate the man." Ian said

"All right but we are calling it in when we finish with the meeting." Charlie said.

"Deal." Ian said as they headed for the elevator, all wondering what the man was afraid of and why he knew what was going on in the case.

'Let's hope he is honest with us.' Ian thought to himself
