Little nightmares: nightmare across time chapter 1: the hunter's mirror

The dark forest in the pale world two children wandered across the traps and snares these children were mono, a child wearing nothing but a brown paper bag and jacket over a gray shirt and pants, and six, a girl in a bright yellow raincoat under a dark blue jacket and skirt, the two ventured into a dark dreary cabin in the deepest part of the forest from there they snuck in through the window and entered the cabin itself it was filled with disgusting foods decaying floors and walls and dim lights they wandered around until they found the living room "are you sure this is a good idea six?" Mono asked worriedly, "Sure, we just need to head to the hunter's attic!" Six replied "oh joy…." the two then snuck through the cabin and found the attic and pulled the hatch door open suddenly the sound of footsteps grew closer towards them they immediately turned around and hid behind the umbrella cadet the footsteps revealed a man dressed in a hunter's attire and a potato sack with a single eyehole over his head rushed in and noticed the open hatch and rushed towards it to investigate "ugh really gotta replace that hatch it's falling apart!" He complained before leaving the scene, six and mono exited their hiding spot and quickly climbed up towards the attic the two searched around the dusty area until they found an old television lying near a window it suddenly flashed to life revealing static and strange signals that caused mono to come closer and closer until he pressed his hand on the screen and pressed against it it started to glitch out and change to a desolate hallway it suddenly began to suck mono in he tried to move his hand but to no avail the screen pulled him in and with a flash he suddenly disappeared into the television leaving six confused and terrified by the events that unfolded before her….

Inside, mono awoke to see the desolate hallway with nothing but a large door with an eye carved into the wood mono immediately looked left and right searching for someone "hello? Six? Anyone?" Mono then looked closely at the door "that has to be my way out…." Mono rushed towards the door before suddenly the area started to glitch around him and then he was suddenly immediately flung from the tv entirely

Mono was flung back by the force of the blow and hit the wall hitting a batch of items and falling to the floor causing the rest of the items to fall to the ground the hunter immediately started coming upstairs hearing the commotion six immediately hid underneath the junk as the hunter patrolled the area noticing the pile "this was probably a bad idea keeping it here…" the hunter then pulled from the junk a large mirror and carried it downstairs "my basement will be perfect and more importantly… secure for it!" Once he was gone six and mono emerged from the junk and caught their breath "well mission failed… let's get out of here!" Mono suggested "no way we didn't come all this way from the pale city to get screwed over like this!" Six proclaimed "why are you so obsessed over one mirror? We could just get one from the pawn shop downtown!" "Because mono that's no ordinary mirror…"

(Flashback)

Six was minding her own business wandering the pale city when she heard two viewers talking to one another saying something about an enchanted mirror in the hunter's cabin in the forest this rumor had caught her attention…

"I heard a rumor that the hunter has an enchanted mirror that can access to what is believed to be a whole other dimension entirely! I wanna see if that's really true and juggling by his protectiveness over that mirror it most certainly is!"

(End of flashback)

"How are you ever sure that that's the mirror we're looking for?" Mono asked "it could just be a family heirloom!" "Do you see any other mirror that isn't broken?" Mono shook his head "I rest my case. Ok now let's make sure that we find out that rumor!" The two then climbed down to the hall and raced down towards the basement but there was a problem "dang it the door's chained up!" "Probably to make sure we don't get in…" mono added on "I know! I think he keeps his keys in the kitchen . All we need to do is backtrack all the way to the kitchen to check all the cabinets…" Mono then busted the door open with an axe and went inside "that works too…."

Inside the basement the two wandered around, six noticed the door with the hole in it "... Well this brings back tragic memories…." Six said sadly " hate to ask but. How long exactly did the hunter keep you in there?" Mono asked "since as long as I can remember…." Six replied softly "the only thing that i had for company was that music box… it calms me and makes me feel ok…." "Hey… but this was the first time we met and became best friends, remember?" Mono cheered, placing his hand on six's shoulder "yeah i guess you're right!" The two then looked around for the mirror they then discovered a storage room where the mirror hung on a wall

Meanwhile in another realm in a library three children search for a specific book one girl had light blue hair wore a red boots and sweater a yellow scarf and black beret another was a girl wearing a blue and yellow sweater black pants and her hair was tied back the third was a boy in a orange shirt and blue pants and had brown hair the three searched the library for the book "uh hilda what exactly are we looking for?" Asked the blue sweater girl, "Easy frida there's a book about an enchanted mirror that is said to act as a gateway to another world!" The blue haired girl named hilda replied, soon they found what they were looking for. They took out a dusty old book "that's what we've come here for?" Asked the orange shirt boy, Hilda then opened the book as it slowly showed notes about the different world showing many monsters and environments. "Well at least I know what my nightmares will be tonight…." The boy continued as hilda read out loud "as a precaution to make sure this doesn't fall into the hands of evil i have hidden the mirror inside this library in the most secret place where none will find it." Hilda turned to a small wall of books and immediately walked towards it sliding it open, uncovering a secret room "i was not aware that this room existed…" the boy proclaimed "sorry we didn't tell you earlier david…." Hilda apologized. The three searched the area until they pulled a leaver disgusted as another book, the sound of cogs and gears turning filled the room as one of the shelves slowly lifted upwards revealing a large mirror. The three looked at the mirror in awe before the door slid open….

Meanwhile back in the pale world six and mono carried the mirror up to the living room and avoided any furniture to be as quiet as possible to not alert the hunter "how are we sure the hunter's not gonna hear us?" Mono whispered "trust me the door's cracked open, all we need to do is just get to it and…" six was suddenly interrupted by the sound of heavy footsteps, they turned and saw the hunter walking to the living room with a bottle of whiskey in his hand "that dead bear's surely gonna make me a fortune!" He cheered "time to celebrate with some good old…" the hunter stopped seeing six and mono with the mirror "...uh care to share some drinks with us…?" The hunter placed his whisky on the table and pulled out his shotgun "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" he screamed and immediately started shootings causing six and mono to bolt out the door with the mirror as the hunter busted out of the cabin and continued shooting "GIVE ME BACK MY MIRROR!" He screamed and pulled out a large lantern flashlight before pursuing them, the two ran from the hunter and frantically dodged his gunfire eventually they managed to hide behind a rabbit den the hunter searched for them he then stomped through the muddy ground lantern and shotgun in hand they then grabbed the mirror and snuck away from him and ran off before catching their breath "...that… was… a close one…." "Six… this was probably a bad idea… from the start… we don't even know how this mirror works or if it ever does!" Suddenly a flock of birds flying into the night alerted the hunter to their location; he rushed towards them once he was there. He pulled out his shotgun and aimed it towards them. All hope seemed lost until the mirror started to glow underneath the moon's bright light….

At the same time in hilda's world the door opened and a pale woman with black and purple hair and a gray shirt and black skirt underneath a black cloak stepped in upset "what are you all doing here!?" She asked in a Scottish accent "miss librarian! We heard about this mirror and we thought we would investigate!" Hilda proclaimed "you shouldn't have unlocked that mirror!" The librarian groaned "there's a reason why it was hidden away!" Suddenly the mirror began to glow and ripple before blasting sonic wave and glitchy particles flash across the room suddenly the sound of what appeared to be footsteps running across grass and gunshots were heard soon the mirror projected what appeared to be a forest and a young girl in a yellow raincoat looked at the mirror and pressed her hands against the glass. The glass started to ripple again and flashed a bright light everyone covered their eyes. Once the bright light faded everyone uncovered and saw the girl in the raincoat on the floor and the mirror suddenly stopped ripping and sealed off the other side the girl turned and banged on the glass "MONO! NO!" She screamed and she turned around to see hilda and the others she freaked out and ran away "is that why that mirror was locked up?" David asked frightened "unfortunately yes. We have to find her!" The group then ran out of the room to find the raincoat girl named six…

Meanwhile after her ordeal six hid underneath the tables hoping no one would find her. Suddenly Hilda appeared in front of her six fearing the worst, covered her face in fear "if you're gonna kill me just make it quick!" She pleaded, leaving Hilda confused, "kill you?" She said dumbfounded "preposterous! I'm not a monster!" Six uncovered her face "you're not?" "No! Why would you think something like that?!" "Well, where I'm from… not a lot of people are friendly…." Hilda then grabbed six's hand and pulled her out of her hiding spot "there see? I'm not hurting you one bit!" Hilda said, calming six down "ok… are you from another dimension?" Six seemed surprised. "Wait, this is another dimension?!" She asked surprised "then the rumor must be true after all, I ENTERED ANOTHER DIMENSION!" Six then noticed that she was a lot taller than she was in her world "and I'm not the size of a mouse!" The two then met up with Hilda's friends "kid this is frida David and the librarian, they're friends as well!" Hilda introduced "hello and what would your name be?" Frida asked "my name? It's six!" Everyone looked at six in confusion "you're named after a number?" David asked confusedly, "And I believe you knew someone named mono?" Frida continued "yeah he was my friend!" Six suddenly realized about mono "oh god! Mono! He's still in my world. We have to save him!" Six then rushed towards the mirror and repeatedly banged on it "why isn't this thing working!?" Six panicked "it doesn't work like that!" The librarian answered "then how does it work!?" Six asked desperately "unfortunately I don't know either…."

Meanwhile in the pale world mono continued to run from the hunter's gunfire before hiding in a badger hole once he was gone mono quickly snuck out and saw the hunter carrying the mirror and talking it back to his cabin he suddenly turned around and saw another tv had mysteriously turned on mono placed his hand against the screen and the same events from the attic had unfolded he tried to resist being sucked in but unfortunately he was sucked into the television anyway the hunter turned around and saw to see the commotion but he saw nothing he then turned away….

Inside the television mono awoke to see that he was still in that desolate hallway "ok… mysterious door opening attempt 2 I guess…." Mono said to himself before running towards the door once more he was almost halfway across to the door but similar events started to unfold. The area began to glitch out and Mono was flung out of the television entirely leaving in a bright flash…

Mono was flung back by the force and hit a nearby tree. He saw nothing but the bright glow of the moonlight then the glow of the hunter's flashlight "end of the line buddy…." The hunter then grabbed mono and took him to his cabin all the while he struggled to break free but to no avail

Meanwhile six and Hilda walked around the city. It was bright and beautiful, however six was very frightened about what she was seeing. Eventually they went to a tall building which appeared to be an apartment complex "this is where I live!" Hilda clarified "my mum would be happy to meet you!" The two then entered the building. After a few floors they opened the door, seeing hilda house, it was all bright red and orange with a few windows and Knick knacks and other objects on various shelves "mum! I'm home!" Hilda hallowed soon a tall woman with brown hair a red sweater and brown sweat pants and shoes "Hilda! Good to see you. I see you brought a new friend!" The woman said gladful "mum this is six from what I witnessed she's from another dimension!" Hilda introduced "six this is my mum! She's a friend as well so there's no need to be frightened!" "Hi… I'm six…" Hilda's mum looked at her in surprise "um… ok… why is she named that?" "I don't actually know why are you named that anyway?" "I don't know actually…." Six replied "it's nice to meet you mrs…." "Please call me Johanna!" Johanna clarified "now how did you access our dimension exactly?" "Through an enchanted mirror, me and my friend Mono found it in the hunter's cabin!" The two looked at six confused "to be honest, I've seen weirder…." Hilda said six then wandered the hall before staring at the window and saw the city in wonder and placed her hand on the glass "hang in there mono… I'll come back for you…."

Meanwhile in the pale world mono was thrown into the door where inside there were scratches on the walls and cranks and old table and chairs "have fun in there I'll be back to see which wall I'll hang your head…." The hunter said and closed the door leaving mono to look outside the cracked window and placed his hand on it "don't worry six… I know you'll come back for me…."
