Chapter 1: A dozen roses for Meg

"All the best for you" cried Aunt Carrol and embraced Meg. Meg smiled and took the bouquet full of pink roses.

"Thank you, Auntie" she said and smiled.

"What a lovely bride" her aunt went on, but Meg didn't listen. She stared only at the roses in her hand. "Don't you like my roses, Daisy?" Carrol asked, when she realized her silence. "And Uncle Carrol was sure you like pink best!". Carrol looked at the room. There were roses in every corner. Pink, white and red, even some blue ones. "All wedding presents?" asked Carrol.

"Yes, they are" sighed Meg's sister Amy, when she popped in from outside. "We should have rentet Aunt March's Plumfield, and not prepare at home".

"Hey, Daisy, what's on? Why are you so sad?" Amy asked her older sister. The wedding day for Meg and her beloved John was coming closer, and perhaps Meg was exited. Amy had arranged a stunning white dress, Beth would perform a wedding concert, and Jo, well, she tried not to mess things up. She felt completely wrong with girlish gossip about fashion or hairstyle.

Meg whispered something to her.

"Huh?" Amy didn't get what Meg meant. Meg pulled Amy in another room. Jo was now coming down and started talking about something with Aunt Carrol. Good old Jo, now Carrol would be distracted for some time. Certainly, Jo could speak a lot about her newest book project. Meg closed the door.

"Why did you pull me in the living room?" Amy asked her sister worried. Her Dad was with Marmee and cousin Flo visiting a local shop, so no one was there to support her. But Meg pointed at a flower pot standing in a corner. " What about these petals?" Amy asked clueless. "Oh my god, Amy, can't you remember my ball at the Moffats? And Camp Laurence? The rose is from HIM!" Meg explained. At this moment, the doorbell rang.

"Him, Daisy? Who are you talking about? John?" Amy wanted to know. But then she heard how the door was opened, and some exited cries and shrieks.

" Ned! Oh, what about the wedding?"

Amy looked at her older sister. " You got love-trouble? Did you know he was coming?"

" Well, there was a kind of message that arrived with the pot." Meg blushed.

"Don't act as a ridiculous teenager. I wouldn't be proud of you" Amy icily said.

"What are you talking about, you coldhearted Amy? You don't need anybody, you don't care for anyone but your stupid art!"

Amy gasped, but Meg went on "John is the one I love, even he's not so perfect like Lau…"

"Nooo!" Amy interrupted her" Don't mention him!" Amy turned her head so Meg woudn't see a tear.

"Oh Amy!" Meg spoke now softer." I always thought you would be glad if Laurie would fall in love with another girl than Jo. And now he and Beth are so close that Daddy and Marmee and everyone is waiting for their official declaration. Laurie would stay in the family! Isn't that what you wished?" Meg hesitated because Amy was silent. She embraced her: "I didn't want to hurt you!"

"Me neither" Amy whispered." Go for Ned Moffat and show him that you're the happiest bride in the world!"

" Not only that! Far important, I'm the luckiest sister in the world!" Meg laughed.

" Who's the luckiest sister?" asked Jo curiously, when she opened the door. "Anyway, Ned is there! He is quite delighted about my newest book!" Jo couldn't tell more about her book, because Meg embraced her and went outside, humming.

" Oh, what's about Daisy?" asked Jo baffeld.

"She's happy!" smiled Amy. This was Meg's happily ever after. But deep in her soul, Amy knew that her own story should not end the way it was now.
