Hey, hey, hey! Welcome everyone to the first-ever chapter of Some Things Are Better Left Discovered! This is very exciting for me and I hope for you too!

*Please note this takes place in the canon universe of Fairy Tail!*

Chapter 1: Ghosts Among Us.

By the first light of the world, it was shown the great and vast empire as a crumbling state of pity. Much like how all things are. The shadows grew large here and stood in place of large porticos and balconies. Dust and debris originated from large mansions, towering over its transparent, humble citizens.

In places like these, ghosts tend to... wander to. Attach themselves to meaningful objects.

To most, it was frightening. To some, it was exciting.

Only one living person amongst the pitiful empire. A woman, to be exact. She was knee-deep in a muddy, antique home of what used to be a mayor. The woman held onto her support beams of 400-hundred-year-old floor tiles and a broken-off shower bar, almost ready to give way to the sharp wreckage below her.

She held out a walkie-talkie-looking device insistently to the eerily dark mess. It was mechanically screaming, looking for a voice to dare it to stop. But there was no voice. After a few minutes, she climbed her way out of the mess, and looked to the bright sun, finally able to show her lapis lazuli eyes shining like a gem.

She swiped her onyx hair off her tan shoulders and wiped herself clean of debris. She took a deep breath through her button nose. The woman looked dissatisfied at herself and sighed. She seemed dejected about how her climb into the hole was.

After vigilantly cleaning herself, she pulled out a real walkie-talkie, her strong yet firm voice demanding an answer. "Xavier, you there?" She finally spoke. A few beats of silence before she got her answer. "Yes, I'm here, Serena. Over by the Visitarion." It seemed the earlier assumption of only one living thing was wrong.

"I'm over by the Drive. Any chance you know where that is?" Serena patiently thumped her foot against the harsh, sharp tile. Once again, the equipment caught a boisterous voice. "Uh, no clue. I could try though; I mean, how far would a royal be from their nobles, right?" Serena hummed with finally. The decision was made.

The voice cut out. Serena looked dejectedly at her ruined orange tank top and Jean shorts-eyeing her black bag, where her new, fresh clothes of another pair of tank tops and shorts were packed. It seemed fruitless to bring yet another pair with her, but she would do anything to keep herself tidy clean. Much like another person on their team.

Serena stared at the desolate wasteland, ghosted by the old haunts of the golden empire. It made her clench with sadness that millions of people were lost to history when the Seige of Alvarez burned everything in sight. But, she was a paranormal investigator; she has dealt with these tragic happening before, time and time again. It still didn't help soothe the heartbreak though.

She heard a steady pace of footsteps above her and saw the aforementioned Xavier. He was darker than she, with medium-sized sable eyes. His nose was long, but his ears were about medium-sized as well. Atop his head sat a fluffy mess of dirty blonde hair, singed at the end with fiery orange. His eyes darted this way and that, always open to his surroundings. He too was suited to a comfortable sky-blue hoodie and dark, washed jeans. To top it all off, he was fitted with brown, adventurer boots.

Serena noticed him right away and waved dramatically. He caught on and bounced over to where she stood. Xavier eyed the house pitifully as if he too was feeling the amount of depression in the air.

"So, did you find anything?"Serena asked in a commanding voice. Xavier shook his head and fingered his EMF (Tester Electromagnetic Field). Serena sighed and crossed her arms, looking across the burnt field like a defeated soldier. Xavier kicked a little pebble across the ground, which sent it skidding right into the wreckage. It was a lucky hit, as it went cleanly into a drainage pipe.

"I'm honestly kinda disappointed on how our last two investigations went: the first one we only found two bits of evidence; the second we found nothing. I'm beginning to think the old farmer wanted us there for laughs," Serena admitted, sitting down a piece of tile. She cringed when she heard a dull breaking sound.

"I mean, I hardly believe in ghosts myself. It was a little fun to watch you two fumble around upon yourselves to prove yourselves," Xavier giggled. Serena shot him a look, and he in return, was smugly smiling. Such a brave spirit.

"H-Hello, this is Mariam. Xavier, Serena, you there?" Serena fumbled quickly for her walkie-talkie. Xavier looked on, intrigued. "Yes, I'm here. What is going on?" Serena's voice was muffled due to her quick response, but she was heard by "Mariam".

"I found something very important, Serena. Is Xavier there as well? I need the whole team," The voice said. Xavier pulled it from Serena's fingers rapidly and shouted, "Yeah! I'm here! We'll be right there, Mar!" Xavier shouted. Serena looked exasperated at Xavier, who was already journeying down the hill nimbly.

Following after him, Serena fetched her things and sprightly caught up.

The blue, flashing, electronic lights were underwhelming, but, other than that, her set up was massive; three computers set to supervise the land before them, with three mice and a mousepad for each. Also included: a few dozen monitors, one laptop, and a wireless headset. With Mariam's eyes glued to it, watching each movement. Once something or someone materialized on the monitor, she would capture it and analyze it to confirm it's not phony.

Serena gives Mariam way more credit than she's worth, it would give anyone a headache to man all devices at once.

Marian, like mentioned before, was sitting at her desk, a couple of files before her. Mariam's face was elongated, her features very sharp. Her strawberry blonde hair in a long, messy bun, though some had escaped. She had some makeup on, but not too much on- just some foundation and eye make-up. She had analytical, greyish-blue eyes, her eyebrows ever presently furrowed. She wore comfy clothes comprising of a white sweatshirt with heather gray leggings. She wore a discarded scrunchie on her wrist.

It took one movement to realize her teammates were here, only giving them one look. "Oh, good you're here, " Mariam got up from her chair and sat down on a more comfortable surface, like the bed. The two followed her and moved on as well.

"So, what's up?" Xavier casually said. "Zeref Dragneel was emperor from x789-x791, correct? And in that time slot that Zeref was the monarch, there was the Alvarez Empire war with Fiore," Marian asked. Serena nodded apprehensively to the questions, while Xavier looked thoroughly confused. "Yeah, and we have established that Alvarez and Fiore had contact. What are you trying to say?" Serena inquired, leaning closer to her.

"What I'm trying to say is that they have affiliation with each other," Mariam crossed her arms. Xavier and Serena shared a look before gesturing for more. Mariam smiled smugly.

"We're going to an investigation of the Fairy Tail guild."
