It was strange. You take for granted the little things you do almost every day, but when they are gone it's some of the little things you miss the most. A hug, a kiss, or simply the scent of someone you love seem to be what you long to have back.
By the grace of God Maggie had been able to enjoy all those things and more. Yet now, the sadness started creeping in.
"We have around 5 minutes." Said Henry as he buttoned up his uniform.
"It's only felt like 5 minutes." Maggie replied as she put her dress back on.
"I know my love." Said Henry. "Time seems to just go when I'm with you."
Henry opened the portal.
"Just under 3 months" He assured her.
"It'll feel like a lifetime." She replied
The two walked together as Maggie slowly went toward the portal.
"Just be thankful to God that we even had this time together." Said Henry after the two had shared a kiss.
"Oh, I am." She replied.
The portal began to blink. Which meant their time was almost up.
Maggie sighed. "I wish I could stay down here with you."
"So do I, though I believe it would be hard to explain to the others. We are more than 400 feet below the surface." Replied Henry.
Normally Maggie would reply in kind. But they were out of time. Another minute and that portal would no longer be there.
"I love you Henry." Was all she said before walking through the portal.
She found herself in her own bathroom again. The portal was still open behind her.
"Not as much as I love you."
She heard Henry say, but when she turned around she saw nothing but her bathtub…
…And some of Henry's old clothes hanging on the rim.
Truth be told, things were going smoother than Alex had thought. They had used the radio to open the source, they had watched Clarissa fall 3 stories just for her body to disappear, seen Ren… well be Ren, and now they were headed to the radio tower where Nona and Ren were waiting.
Still though, something was off. She could quite put her finger on it, but just the way things were happening seemed… different.
If Jonas noticed he didn't say. Then again he hadn't said much tonight at all. Alex had been unusually quiet too. However that was more due to pretty much knowing what would happen. This wasn't their first trip to the island after all. Nor their second, or third or fourth… In fact at this point she had almost gotten used to all the weird things going on here.
The only thing that Alex was actually concerned about was that Leon had yet to show up. They were about halfway done and he still hadn't made himself known.
No point in worrying about it though as she and Jonas walked up the many stairs which led to the top of the radio tower. Upon reaching the station they found Ren and Nona just as they usually did.
"So glad of you to join us." Said Ren.
"Did you see Clarissa?" asked Nona.
"Yes, but she disappeared on us." Alex Answered.
"Really?" Asked Nona. "Wait was it the real Clarissa or one of those things?"
"Both."
It was Jonas who answered.
"What!?" Nona asked him.
"Never mind." Alex intervened. "We'll find her later."
"How can you be so sure?"
Alex thought to herself. She couldn't tell Nona about what they knew. Could she?
"Well…" She began without being sure what she was going to say.
Just then fortunately a bright light shined in the top of the radio tower.
"What the!?..." Shouted Ren as he covered his eyes.
Alex wasn't afraid however. More relieved actually. The light was emitting from a portal which had appeared in the middle of the group. Out of the portal walked a familiar face.
"Evening all." Said Leon as he closed the portal thus returning the room to its natural amount of light.
"It's about time." Said Alex.
"Hey be thankful I'm even here now. It's hard to avoid the sunken when you're using portals." He replied.
"Who is this!?" asked Ren.
"Ren we've bef… oh yeah um… name's Leon."
"What the… what was that thing you just came out of?" Asked Nona.
"A Portal." Said Leon casually.
"What, but… who, why…" Ren began rambling.
"You know what how about you two…" Said Leon pointing to Alex and Jonas. "Go down and deal with… you know what and while I update the future cou… umm Ren and Nona."
Alex nodded.
"Nice save there." Said Jonas sarcastically as he and Alex headed down the stairs they had just recently come up.
"So how do you think they'll take it?" She asked Jonas when they were halfway to the bottom.
"For some reason…"
"I think they'll be less than surprised.

Watering plants, doing laundry, washing dishes. Maggie felt like a house wife, but unlike other stay at women she didn't get the benefits of a loving husband to wrap her arms around when the work was done. Anna may have been a good radio woman, and friend, but she wasn't exactly good when it came to cooking, or cleaning, or pretty much anything that involved physical labor.
Maggie didn't mind though. It's not like much was going on at this base…
…Well that interested her anyway. Mostly just the men and nurses training. Sure there were get togethers when the recruits and nurses had some free time, but that wasn't Maggie's cup of tea. She was married after all.
"All right heading to the tower."
The voice belonged to Anna.
"All right see you later. God willing." Maggie replied.
Today was her only "day" she had free this week. However she would probably be sleeping for most of it. She had to work the radio tower from Midnight until noon the next day.
Thank the good Lord in Heaven that the new girl had worked out. It meant the shifts were split three ways now, so both Maggie and Anna could get some much needed rest. Maggie took out a basket of laundry to the clothes line in the back. Anna had explained how Leon had just disappeared the other day. Which is why she now had an old outfit of Henry's to hang on the line.
Suddenly Maggie felt the presence of someone behind her.
"Did you forget something?" She asked. Assuming it was Anna.
"No, at least I don't think I did. Why did you find something belonging to me after I left?"
The voice was not Anna's.
Maggie turned around to see Leon standing right behind her.
"What are you doing here!?" She exclaimed.
"Why do you always give me a hard time?" He asked with a slight chuckle.
"Me!? You know how hard it was to explain your disappearance to Anna?! Why would even do that?" She asked.
"Didn't have much of a choice. Had to be in South America and you don't show up late to a meeting of the elders." He replied.
"But…" Maggie began before realizing there was really no point in continued discussion of this matter. She took a deep breath to help calm herself down.
"So seriously why are you here?" She asked him more calmly.
"Well… Do you want the good or bad news first?" He asked.
"Bad news."
"It's about Henry."
"What?!"
"Calm down he's okay."
"Why wouldn't he be!?"
"Well the Kanaloa had a bit of an accident."
Maggie took another deep breath. She felt like she was about to lose her mind. She didn't worry but as a soldier's wife she always knew there was a possibility… no she couldn't think that. He said Henry was okay. That's all that mattered."
"So what happened." She asked after she settled down a bit.
"The sub hit an underground mountain or something. Henry said an equipment failure led to the crash. In any case this means the sub will have to dock for about two months he estimates while it's being repaired." He explained.
"Two months… where?" Asked Maggie.
"Pearl Harbor." He replied.
"What!?" She exclaimed.
Maggie thought for a moment. He didn't have to tell her that this meant her beloved Henry would no longer be coming back this summer. However she was thankful to God that the accident had not been deadly. In the end at least he was alive.
"That was the bad news…" Leon said interrupting Maggie's thoughts. "Do you want to hear the good?"
"Of course." Replied Maggie.
"Well you see, the naval base has quite a number of weak points." He told her.
Maggie's sorrow suddenly turned to joy.
"You mean…!?" She asked excited.
Leon nodded.
"When?" She asked this time almost ecstatic.
"Right now… if you want."
Maggie quickly grabbed Leon's hand and dragged him through the backdoor and inside the bathroom.
"You know this would seem wrong in so many ways." Leon commented.
"Shut up and open the portal!" Demanded Maggie.
"Yes mam."
Present day
The new radio was right where they usually were. Clarissa had been in the street as usual, however, the meeting had been somewhat off. Nothing that Jonas could really figure out, but the meeting with her had been…
…different somehow.
In any case, they had the WAL-equipped radio, which meant their journey would be over soon. At least that's how it usually went.
"You okay Jonas?" Asked Alex.
"Yeah… well… did Clarissa seem a bit off to you?" He asked her.
"Well, she… is that a serious question?" She asked him.
"Not that…" Replied Jonas. "…The red eyes the floating I'm used to that, but… somethings been off the whole night actually, now that I think about it."
"I've been feeling it too." Alex assured him. "But I can't…"
"Can't what?" Asked Jonas. Alex had suddenly stopped speaking. She was just standing there looking…
Behind him.
Jonas turned around to see Clarrisa. Or at least it looked like her, with one big exception.
The red eyes.
"You think… we… didn't know?" the sunken asked.
"What… what are you talking about?" Asked Alex.
"The… kee… h…" Was all that came out of Clarissa's mouth before she began to twitch uncontrollably.
"What?" asked Jonas. Before he turned around to see Alex fiddling with the radio.
"Stop!" The sunken yelled.
"NO! I'm trying to help you." Alex pleaded.
"Like you helped Michael!?"
That question made Alex stop dead in her tracks. That wasn't the sunken voice. It was Clarissa.
"What?" Asked Alex.
"You know what it's like?" asked Clarissa rather calmly.
"What… what's going on here?" Was all Jonas could think to say.
"To think you're going to have this whole new life with the man you love, just to hear that he drowned because you wanted to have a last…" Clarissa stated.
"That's not how it happened!" Alex snapped.
"…But then." Clarissa went on, but this time there were tears in her eyes. "Suddenly he's back in your life because of some time loop whatever, just to be taken and put back and taken again and again."
"Wait a minute? Clarissa?" Alex asked noticing the girl was in true pain. "You remember?"
"Oh boy do I remember…" Answered Clarissa.
"I remember everything."
Thank you all who made it to the end.
May God bless you all.
