AN: Hi everybody! My first fic for Mr. Burke, yay! In this, the story revolves around OC Blue and Burke's relationship after the ending of the game and completion of project purity. A lot of Burke fluff and romance. Rated M for future explicit content.

CHAPTER 1

Eight days. Seven nights. Four cars. And three abandoned camps. If we could just find ONE place to rest where the sleeping arrangements don't involve car seats or sleeping bags then I'd be the happiest person in the world. I don't think my back can take another round of sleeping on a hard surface.

The day my father died, I promised myself that I would continue his work. I won't stop until the first blade of grass pokes through this dry, cracked ground under my feet. Burke has been here through it all with me in these past days. Refusing to let me do this alone, he left with nothing more than his pistol. Why would he risk his life out here in the wastes when he could be having top shelf scotch and cigars all day inside a luxurious penthouse suite? What a moron. But he's my moron.

I inwardly grin and turn my head to gaze at him. He's holding his jacket and hat, but still dons his glasses. The wind dances softly through his short brown hair. Having not been able to give it a trim in a while, the ends at the back of his head are starting to curl slightly. He's so damn handsome. Although, he looks exhausted. He would never admit to that though. Handsome and stubborn. I extend my arm out to scratch the back of his head and lean against him. His arm snakes around me. My fingers work through his small curls as he leans into my touch. His eyes close very slightly from their usual alert state. I pull in my lips to contain my smile. If he were to start purring, I wouldn't be totally surprised.

After weeks of continuing my work, Burke needed to complete some business of his own. He said he needs to meet with some of his men to discuss new contracts. We've been walking now for 6 hours straight with only two or three stops and it's starting to wear on me. Pulling my arm down from his head, I wrap it around his midsection.

"Burrrkkke.." I draw out his name.

He raises an eyebrow but ignores me.

"Burkeyyy!" I dig my head into his side. He unwraps his arm from me with a sigh and pushes me away. I try to contain my smile, knowing my acts are getting to him. I look down at the pebbly ground and kick a few towards his feet.

No reaction.

I roll my eyes before deciding to just sit on the ground. He walks a few steps before he notices how quiet it's gotten without my footsteps trailing behind him. Turning around, he looks at my now laying form.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm tired." I say casually. He walks to me, bending down with his arms resting on his legs. He doesn't look very amused. Good.

"Get up." He says.

I shake my head in protest.

"Get up before I make you get up." He leans to lowly growl in my ear. Stretching my arms out and giving a small 'no', I continue to lay there. He sighs and before I know it, I'm being hoisted up off the ground. He continues walking with me on his side with a squeal. I need to stop underestimating this mans strength.

"This is highly uncomfortable!" He then repositions me to his shoulder. His arm wraps around my legs to keep be from falling over.

"How's that, my dear Blue?"

"How is it that you know my first name but all I know you as, is Burke?"

He only chuckles, blatantly ignoring the question. I sigh and squirm in his arms.

"This isn't how you treat another human being." I state, staring at the dust being kicked up from his shoes.

Groaning, he then shifts me again, holding me bridal style. "I can walk." I mumble.

"Well, you were clearly having a hard time doing so just a moment ago."

I laugh and rest my head on his shoulder, enjoying the closeness of him. I tilt my head to look at his neck, innocently running a finger down from his chin to the first undone button on his shirt. He cranes his neck to look down at him before smirking.

"We need a bed." I yawn, and l lay against his shoulder again.

"Whoa, invite me to dinner first, darling." He jests, earning a small smile and a light punch on his chest.

"Don't be an ass, I'm tired and so are you, whether you want to admit that or not. I don't wanna sleep on the ground again." I half whine.

"What do you mean 'sleep on the ground'? Anywhere we end up, you're laying on top of me!" He argues.

"Hmhm, yeah." I giggle. "Not the whole night though!"

"I fall asleep with a weight on my body and I wake up with that same weight on my body. But no, it's not the whole night." He notes sarcastically.

"Then you need some comfort under you to keep me comfortable because I'm spoiled. But, just an FYI, you're the one who locks me to you at night so I don't wanna hear it." I dig into his jacket that's now slung over his shoulder.

We continue, or rather, HE continues walking us through the wasteland. How he has the energy to carry my weight in this heat is beyond me - not that I weigh a ton to begin with. I'm not complaining though. In fact, I could fall asleep right now. With the smell of him flooding my nostrils and his body blocking any light from my face, it's making for a rather difficult time to not give into sleep. The minutes go by and I can feel myself slipping away from reality. I feel my legs relax, then my torso and my arms following in suit. My head sinks deep into his shoulder, eyes starting to flutter before completely closing shut. The only thing on my mind is the left-right-left-right rhythm of Burke's legs and the steady beat of his pulse.

Out of nowhere, I'm jerked forward a bit, eliciting a gasp from me. I cling to his neck. He chuckles at my reaction. "You're so mean." I mumble out of frustration and tired grumpiness.

"A little farther north there's an old military base - hasn't been touched in years. There should be a few bunks there, if not some cots. BUT, I'm going to have to put you down so you can walk the rest of the way."

"Mmkay," I grumble and hop out of his grasp. I stretch and yawn before I'm pulled to his side. Looking ahead, in the far distance, I can see the front gates of the base. I lock my hand in his as another yawn escapes me. We walk in a comfortable silence for the rest of the way.
