Brett woke up with the sound of his 3 years old son crying and went running to his side.

"What's wrong buddy?" Brett asked worried something bad happened.

"I had a really bad dream." He says sniffling. "Can you check if Mr. Monster is under my bed?" James asked with his blue puppy eyes.

Brett sighed relieved and did as his son asked. "Are you there Mr. Monster?" He looked in the dark. "Come on, leave JP alone or there will be no more cookies for you, are we clear?" He did his best tough voice.

"Yeah no cookies Mr. Monster. You a bad bad monster." James said now feeling safe.

"Now buddy go to sleep okay? Grandma will be here when I go to work"

"Thanks daddy you are my superhero." He said sleepy. "Love you."

Brett smiled and kissed his forehead. "I love you too son".

After banishing Mr. Monster, Brett barely had any more time left to sleep as he had to take the next bus to start cleaning the bar he worked in.

Brett Scott Pierce was 24 years old and struggled with making ends meet and raising his son alone. Of course he had his mom and sister but he was a single parent in the end of the day.

It all started when his ex-girlfriend got pregnant and he believed they could raise a child and live happily ever after. But then reality struck him like a bitch when one day he got home from Business School and she had left him a note.

"I am sorry Brett but I want to live my dream and you and the baby are holding me back. I am sure you can make this parenting thing without me.

-Sophie"

After that he got a call from his mom Whitney telling Sophie was supposed to pick James 3 hours ago.

Whitney and his sister Hannah, who was a junior in high school back then, helped him with baby James so he could still keep going with college since he got accepted in Harvard with a full scholarship.

But then life got more complicated as money began to be less and less so Brett had to drop his studies and start working to pay the bills.

He had 2 jobs and helped fixing cars when needed to make some extra money.

Life started to be tough for Brett when his father became an abusive alcoholic and hit his mother. She always thought that he would get help and stop hitting her but one day Brett tried to stop him and got beaten the hell up. Whitney called the cops and from that day he never saw his father. And hell he was okay with that.

Even being an trashy person, Brett's father was the only source of money so Brett had to find a job to help his family. He was a really hard-working boy who deserved everything life could give and still got nothing.
