Chapter 4: Saved By Demons

The demon girl stared down at the strange boy in front of her. He was definitely odd. At first she'd thought he might be from one of the other farms, maybe Glory Bell...Except the children from that farm had a code sequence of numbers and letters. imprinted on their abdomen unlike Grace field who just used numbers.

"Will he be ok?" She smiled and turned to look at her friend. Emma and the other children had arrived a few days ago tired and hungry. They'd been searching for days for a friend of theirs. However when they saw their injured friend and sibling they were more than relived that she'd found him.

"I do not know." It is hard to tell. He will live of that I am certain. "Thank Mujika, for everything. If you hadn't have found him I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself if he..." Mujika smiled. Do not worry my friend he is safe now.

"You said that you plan to hide in that bunker you'd found Yes?" She nodded. Giving her injured friend and brother a worried look. "He will be fine, Emma. I will send him your way once he's fully healed. Thank you.

Quasimodo was surrounded darkness on all sides. "H-H-Hello?" Caleb. He froze. That voice. It cant be! Slowly turned around. Standing behind him in a beam of light was Rose. ROSE! He shouted as he ran towards her.

He tripped falling to the ground. He looked behind to see his leg was stuck in a black tar like substance. Rose! He cried out trying to reach her. The shadows turned to quicksand as they tried to swallow him whole.

She slowly started to melt dissolving before his eyes. "Why did you leave me?" Rose, no! He tried to fight the black inky tendrils as the darkness pulled him under. "Quasi." He turned to see Emma and his other siblings standing in a ray of light.

"Why Quasi? Why'd you do it!" Ray shouted. "Why did you leave us brother? "Emma asked as she and the others started to dissolve just like Rose. "Why did you leave us to die?" NO! Quasimodo shouted as the darkness absorbed him.

He woke sweat dripping down his face. It had all been a bad dream. "Where am I?" He thought aloud. He got to his feet slowly. However he almost collapsed from exhaustion. "I'm still to weak I should rest."

It was then he remembered the demons. Was this their home? Had they brought him here to die?! He remembered the female demon telling him not to be afraid, but all he could do was be afraid. As weak and lightheaded as he was he needed to run before they came back!

He Stumbled into a dimly lit corridor the walls lit by the same eerie green light of the room he'd just been in. He stumbled down the corridor blindly. As his eyes adjusted he relized he was in a cave.

He decided to make a run for it as he blindly took off down the corridor however he scrambled to a halt when he came face to face with a large demon carrying a sword. He backed away terrified a he ran down the hall. "Hey, stop!" he heard the demon shout. However he had no intentions of stopping.

He ran around another corner running right into...Another demon. This one looked to be around Emma's age with long purple hair. He backed away terrified. "It's alright you don't have to afraid."

He drew a knife from his pocket. Phoebus had given it to him as a precaution when they'd gone on the trip. He was thankful he still had it. "Get away from me! Get away!" He shouted holding the blade out in front of him.

The demon behind him unsheathed his sword. "It is alright Sonju lower your sword. He is just frightened." She reached out her hand. No! He shouted frightened. She placed her hand on his own. He looked at her with wide terrified eyes. "Lower the knife, you do not have to be afraid. You are safe here; we will not harm you."

The dagger fell from his hand with a loud metallic clang. Tired and weak and feverish he fell to his knees. He collapsed curling into a frightened ball. "It is alright, no ones going to hurt you any more." He flinched when he felt her hand running through his hair. "Shhh. Its alright." He let out a choked sob as he began to cry letting all the painful memories come crashing down around him.

He sobbed while the strange demon girl comforted him. After a while he blacked out when he came to again he was lying back in the bed again. He felt a lot stronger than he had before. "How do you feel?" He looked up to see the demon girl standing across from.

He scrambled back as she approached him. "It is alright." She set a bowl filled with a strange looking stew inside. "Here. You must be hungry." He looked at her cautiously before gulping down the soup. It was the most amazing thing he'd ever eaten. He looked at her then at the bowl.

She laughed smiling brightly. "Would you like more? There's plenty to spare." He nodded as she left with his empty bowl when she returned he ate slowly this time eyeing her with suspicion. He set the bowl down then looked at her out the corner of his eye.

"W-Why?" Hmm? She looked up confused. "Why did you save me? Why didn't you kill me? Any other demon would." We don't eat humans. Why? "Religious reasons." I don't believe you. If we wanted to kill you, you would have been dead by know.

She sighed. "Emma told me you'd be frightened when you awoke. I'm sorry if we frightened you. "E-Emma? She was here?! The demon girl nodded. "Your family came looking for you." "Where are they?! I want to see them."

They left. "Your lying! They...They wouldn't...Leave me behind." Tears streamed down his face. "I'm sorry, but they had no choice. You were injured and sick. You would have slowed them down. I promised I'd send you to them when you were well."

"Do you know where they went?" They mentioned a bunker they'd found in the desert. "Then that's where I'll go." He winced in pain as he tried to sit up. "You must rest your still in no condition to travel."

He glared at her annoyed. "How long have I been here?" She looked away. Answer me! "Two weeks." He gasped. "You've been here for two weeks." I have to go! "No wait! Just a few more days and I promise you can go. Please your still unwell."

He winced as he sat up. She was right. He'd die out there by himself. He needed to rest and regain his strength. "What is your name?" He looked surprised. He was about to answer but hesitated. "I-I'm not sure who I am anymore."

She smiled placing a hand gently on his shoulder. "I think I remember one of the younger children calling you Quasimodo." He sighed. "But I take it you once went by a different name when you lived on the farm." C-Caleb. My name is Caleb. She nodded. Very well...I am Mujika.

A few days later he was finally strong enough to walk again. He met the other demon Sonju who seemed gruff but was kind in his own way. One day he'd asked Sonju to teach him to fight. The teen was determined and over the next few days Sonju taught him how to hunt and fight.

"You taught Emma how to hunt, didn't you." Sonju nodded. "Yes though I must admit she wasn't as quick a learner as you. I daresay you've impressed me which is a hard thing to accomplish." I learned from the best.

When the day came for him to leave he was almost saddened to leave. "I will miss you, both of you. You've taught me so much. thank you." Mujika placed something into his hand. He held up a grey pen.

A pen? "It belonged to someone the children called...William Minerva." Quasimodo gasped. It had been sixteen years since he heard that name. "T-Thank you." Stay safe, my friend. "I will and thank you for all you've done.

He spent hours wandering the desert before finding a small cave to hide in for the night. He twisted the silver pen in his hand. "Why did Emma want me to have..." Suddenly as he twisted the pen one final time a beam of light shot out of it.

Startled he dropped the pen. The pen was a projector and what it projected was... "A map! This must be where Emma and the others are at. There exact location!" He could finally be reunited with his family.

A tear streaked down his face he'd go first thing tomorrow morning. He yawned as his eyelids slowly closed. He was glad to have met Mujika and Sonju. If he hadn't met them he would have been dragged back to the farm or worse. And it was thanks to them he'd see Emma and ray soon. His friends. His...family. Maybe he'd been wrong. Maybe not all demons where evil.

He slowly closed his eyes as he drifted off to sleep. However soon he'd realize that demons were not the true evil in this world. Soon he'd learn that the real darkness in this world wasn't demons...It was humans!
