Steven recalls various memories and visions.
...
As the room swirled about, continuing to make the next setting, Steven got the attention of the gems.
"So for these next few, these aren't things that happened to me technically. I mean, they still happened and I saw them...but most of these aren't even my memories."
"What do you mean Steven?" asked Pearl, who shared and voiced the group's confusion.
"Well, you know how I was often compared to as Rose Quartz and Pink Diamond until we brought down the Authority. Lets just say I might have saw a few of her memories before we were able to. I don't even know why really either, it's just something that happened. I wouldn't call them bad, more confusing or informational, though they do lead up to something a bit more...concerning. They showed me a few things about Pink Diamond and Rose that I would have only heard from you guys or the diamonds."
As he finished saying this, the room finished setting the scene. The area was a bright mix of colors. In the main area, a throne was seen with Yellow Diamond, who shared the appearance to Dr. Maheswaran as well, with Stevonnie.
"This is one of those memories. While me and Connie were visiting Lars in space, we ended up getting stranded as Stevonnie on a jungle moon. Until Lars rescued us, we took shelter in an old diamond control room located on the rock. When we laid down for the night, we dreamt of this."
As the memory began, the group watched as Stevonnie argued with the giant. After being dismissed by the tyrant, Stevonnie looked into a window pane, which showed a reflection of Pink Diamond, signaling that this was a past argument between the two diamonds. With a burst of anger, Stevonnie/Pink Diamond punched the window, cracking it in the process. With this, the memory ended.
"Weird. But how is this related to you then?" asked Amethyst.
"I'm not too sure really. This is one of the few memories or visions I've had where I've seen myself as either Rose or Pink Diamond...even if a little."
As if to show his case, the room quickly abandoned the memory and made the next one. The room stayed mostly the same as a light background was the only real requirement for the memory, aside from the room creating three silhouettes of Pink, Blue, and Yellow Diamond.
"I saw this one while I was on the moonbase with Lapis. This was right before we found out about Rose's secret of being Pink Diamond. You could say that this memory moved me to want to investigate the secret with Pearl even more so."
As the memory played, the three diamonds bickered about the importance of running a colony and having the gems look up to the them [the diamonds]. As the lecture came to an end, the group saw a silhouette of Pearl approach Pink Diamond with a sword drawn. The memory ended here.
"Just like the first one, I was never there to see that, but I still saw it. This was something that happened to Pink Diamond, but I still saw it, for reasons I still can't quite understand. Maybe my gem wanted me to see them to realize the truth of everything, that Rose was Pink, that I am me, that Pink had some just to her cause because the others basically abused her into believing that a diamond should act one way. I'm not too sure even today, but I do know that these memories and visions caused some issues down the line."
"How do you mean?" asked Garnet.
"I can't explain fully right now as we'll get there. I can say that every gem on Homeworld believing and calling me as Rose and Pink, plus with these memories, might have caused me to have a slight identity crisis while we were on Homeworld. I wasn't sure what to believe anymore, if I was just me, a mixture of myself, Rose and/or Pink Diamond, or if I was just a vessel for her, that she was trying to reach out from her gem with these visions. I know now that I'm just me, and I've always been just me, but for a good while, it caused some issues for sure."
Before the conversation could continue, the room began to swirl about once more. As it did, the conversation continued.
"So wait, just because you saw some memories and everyone on Homeworld thought you were actually Pink...Rose...whatever, you thought that you might be her in some way." asked Amethyst.
"Yeah...its hard to explain really."
"I might be able to help. Think of it in your case Amethyst. Your a quartz, but one who came out in your own unique way rather than the bulky form other quartz usually take. Many would believe you to be defective or wrong and that you should be like the others. We know that none of that is true and that your fine the way you are, but for sometime, you were compared by Homeworld standards as those things. I imagine seeing some of the other quartz both on Homeworld and at the Zoo was confusing enough as well. It's not quite the same in the sense of this identity crisis Steven went through, but its similar enough I believe it gets the point."
"Huh, I think I get it now...kinda."
As the confusion was cleared up, the group focused their attention to the room, which had finished making the setting of Pink Diamond's room on Homeworld. As the room made the characters for the scene, the gems saw Steven and Volleyball, whom still had two good eyes.
"This was right before we started planning for the ball on Homeworld." Steven noted as the memory began to play. P-Steven and Volleyball were seen having fun and joking about when Yellow Diamond, in a creepy manner, stretched her head into the room. With quick acting, the two smaller gems became serious and made Yellow believe that they were behaving as they should. As the giant head disapearred and the two returned to their normal selves, the group saw P-Steven cough up some of Rose's hair. As the memory continued, the room quickly shifted to a black void setting, with the only thing of color coming from the individuals and the violet floors. After a moment of confusion, Volleyball disappears as the group sees White Diamond watching over while smiling. Soon after, P-Steven begins to throw up more of Rose's hair, ending the memory.
"Well that was...weird. And why did you keep coughing up Rose's hair?" asked a somewhat disturbed Amethyst.
"I honestly could not tell you, even if I wanted to. Again, I think it was my gem trying to tell me something, but whether or not that's the case, I couldn't say." he responded as the room began to swirl around once more.
"I have one more memory to show you guys...then we'll move into something a bit more...pressing."
"Steven, why are you showing us these memories you had of your mother?" asked Garnet. "I don't believe these were nearly as traumatizing as any of the other events we've seen or even will be shown."
"These points weren't exactly harmful to me directly, sure, but they are important to better understand what's to come. Remember, I'm showing you guys important points I feel you should know along with some of the major events you missed out on. Having the knowledge of these memories and visions is important because for the longest time, everyone mistook me for my mother in one way or another, heck even you guys made a few small comparisons to me. A lot of that, plus these memories, is what caused my slight identify crisis. That, and these all hold a part in the next event I'll show you guys after this last vision."
With this being said, the room finished it's creation...with the only thing being shown in a black void being Steven.
"For this last vision, I had this while me and Connie were trapped in the tower on Homeworld. This was after the ball when you guys were bubbled. Without going into too much detail as it was a lengthy vision, I saw the diamonds try and unleash their corrupting light on me. As they did, this happened."
As if signaled by Steven, the memory played. As P-Steven moved to shield himself from the attack, he looked to his hands to find his form changing between himself, Rose, and Pink Diamond. As the forms shifted much quicker over time, they stopped suddenly on a confused P-Steven as the memory came to end.
"This vision just added on to that crisis even further. All these memories did. I don't know why I could see her these past events, but they still happened and they led up to something...awful."
Seeing the growing turmoil within the boy, the group looked to each other in a worried confusion.
"You keep mentioning that these led up to a worse occasion, that something terrible follows after." noted Garnet.
"Yeah man...just what happened?" asked Amethyst.
"-sigh-, I guess there's not avoiding it anymore. What happened...is what I'm about to show you guys. Just know...it's not good." Steven said. As he placed his hand over his gem with the memory looming over him, he could feel the stone ache as there was no getting past what was to come next. With a heavy heart and a sudden feeling of fear, Steven willed the room to begin making the next scene.
...
And now we can move into what happened in change your mind. Been looking forward to this funnily enough as it'll be one of the more impactful events to the gems.
Something I'd like to bring up, I did decide last minute to skip Lars' death. It was traumatic sure, but Steven isn't the only one the gems could hear that event from, since Lars is still alive...undead...you know what I mean. A lot of the events that happened to Steven that were heavily traumatizing, I have avoided if he had one of the gems with him. Take Pearl almost killing him for example. We know it happened, it hit hard to the boy, but Pearl could explain the event of it just as well. Plus, I feel like Steven would think that some of these aren't his place to say as a lot of what happened to him, were also a result of something happening to another, to which I think he would believe that to be their burden of keeping as well as his.
Regardless though, tune in next time for the events that happened during change your mind.
Thanks for the support though guys. Happy Memorial Day. Was able to get ahead, all I needed to do really was add in this end note, so yay I guess. Seriously though, don't just consider today as another day off or holiday (if your in America or if you personally observe the holiday from another part of the world...after some research, I recognize that other countries observe this event in one way or another during other times of the year). Take the time to recognize those who didn't come home. Even if you haven't had this experience yourself, you don't know how the person next to you might feel about it. This holiday hits hard for many people, myself included, and it's important to recognize the sacrifice all soldiers made in service to their country.
Again though, thanks guys, and hope to see everyone again in ch. 11.
Memories by Maroon 5. That's right, I added in another song title in the midst of all this. With all the memories and visions being explained from various episodes, I felt this to be simpler in the long run.
