A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Turmoil arises in the galaxy. Many feel the change that came with the invasion of Naboo, a war on the horizon. Many among the powerful see their chance to profit and to shape the galaxy to their ideals and goals. Even on Coruscant darkness lingers, like a Borcatu, ready to pounce on the weak. Corrupt leaders, politicians, cooperation's and even the smallest gangs ready themselves to grip their share of influence and power. Mindfully scheming alliances or destroying enemies before they make a move to ensure their future. Not even the lowest levels of Coruscant are safe from this shift in power. The underworld is the first place to take notice and prepares for the storm to come.
GO Surplus!
When my Brother told me the story it always went like this, "It was one of those nights. No hope, no peace, no stability in sight, where were the great saviours of the galaxy? Not here. Level 586 deep in the underworld of Coruscant yet again, there was an outbreak of war, a gang war. It went on for weeks with no end…"
'Well, I always thought my brother was a spectacular storyteller. He could make my toes twitch. I never could sit still. And his poses were so hilarious. Were… they were hilarious…How did this happen? What did I do wrong? Where did it went all to SHITS?- I HATE THIS! I HATE THIS CITY! I HATE THIS PLANET! WHY?! IT was me, MY PLAN, MY DECISIONS- …sorry…. I'm- I'm so sorry…my brother can you ever forgive me…'
It was night as the dimmed artificial lights barely let anyone see to the end of the street. Level 586 deep in the underworld of Coruscant had like many regions barley covered the basic needs of electricity and running water. Medical supplies were scares. Gang wars on the other hand were a plentiful daily sight. Since the attack on Naboo everyone wanted their chance of the big throne or rather thrones. And yet normal life went on and to survive many uncanny households emerged. As it did in district 4.568.497.
"Hold on Dexa. Just a few more pushes!" Ran urged her friend to hold on.
"I- I can't. URRGHAAA." Dexa screamed out.
"Yes, you can. You are a proud Zabrak! Come on fight!" Ran brushed her three braided ponytails back. Sweat dropped down from her grey leathery skin. It wasn't good. Dexa was pregnant and had gotten in the middle of a gang skirmish a few days back. Her wounds were not healing properly and on top on that she had fallen into labour too early.
"ARRHHHHHHHHHHH!" Dexa looked frustrated to the door, 'where is Sokak?' He was Dexa's ten-year-old son. He had gone with Chuvoc to get some painkillers form the market, "Lucky me…" Dexa coughed, "I had to fall for that fuckers small talk," her breathing was heavy.
"Shhh. Sister you're not alone with bad choices," Ran took her hand and gripped tight. "Come on one more push."
"FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!" and then a tiny baby voice squawked.
"It's a boy, Dexa. A boy! Look these tiny horns. He is beautiful," She put him into her arms.
"Look at those eyes, purple eyes. And such dark skin," She gave a weak smile. She was just so exhausted.
"He just looks like you Dexa. Isn't he beautiful?"
The door opened. The brothers rushed to the second floor, "We got it!" Chuvoc rejoiced.
"What the hell took you guys so long," Ran grabbed the pain killer and gave her friend a good dose.
"Is that…" Sokak stepped closer.
"It is your brother, Sokak. Promise me you take good care of him. He needs to get really strong."
"He's… he's so tiny," It was magical to Sokak, there was a mini version of his mother. It made his two hearts pump even faster.
Chuvoc inspected the new addition as well, "He seems weak. Will he make it?" Chuvoc was fifteen years old and was a vendor just like his mum, Ran. His skin was a bit more greenish.
"I'm not really sure," Ran looked at her pitch work family. "I think we need to get him to the doctor." She answered with a quite voice to her son.
"MUM? MUM!" Sokak rattled his mother, there was no response.
"Out of the way Sokak," Ran checked her body all over, "GO take him to the doctor."
"But with what money? At this time?!" Chuvoc was a bit hysterical. Outside the gangs were still dashing it out, after all it was night-time.
"GO…" Dexa commanded, "I- we can't let him die. Sokak I believe in you. You know the streets," Her voice was fading once again.
And anew the boys stormed out of the door, this time with a baby in their arms. It wasn't easy but they made their way to the doctor. The hospital was nothing more than a white greyish compound, flickering lights, a few medical robots looking like they were from the last century. The clientele was as shady as the whole building, bounty hunters, beggars, stimulant vendors, chatters, drugs… most noticeable. The huge mass droid guards moving all around.
"Wait here, watch your brother closely," Chuvoc made his way to a Balosar.
The guy was very human like, but he had two short tentacles on the frontal loap, "What have we here. A Weequay and?"
"We need information," Chuvoc started.
"You need it desperately, is that sadness I am detecting? No reason to get angry," He moved his jacket sleeves back, "Fee?"
Chuvoc ignored the last question, "My brothers' ill he needs medical attention. Fast."
"Ahh," He glanced other to Sokak, "Brother, eh?
"Can you help or not? I'm wasting my time…" Chuvoc was about to turn around.
The Balosar's hand stopped him from turning, "You need to keep your cool young friend. - I think I can help you out for the right price."
"Fine. I will get you the money now hur- be so kind to lay out the contract."
"Ah of course, well there was a death certificated made earlier this evening for a new-born. kinda richer family ties. They paid in advance."
"Great, so just some droid mess to sort out. What was the name?"
The Balosar hold out his hand, "Ah, ah, aah. Fee first."
Chuvoc pulled out some credits, 'Shit… I will need to hussle…'
"Hmmm…that's all?"
"Right now, yes. It's upfront payment. You will get the rest. You have my word."
"Ha. An honest soul, here," he giggled and shook his head, "Fine. If not, my friends will find you."
"Come to my family's store, black market, store 395, I'll give you ten percent of the daily income until we reach your thousand credits…"
"Oww, so you do know the fee?"
"Of course- I am a vendor and still alive. I know my deals. NAME," Chuvoc got a bit edgy.
The Balosar whispered over, "well glad to do business with such a young sport. The name is 'Aster Justin Luck' Looking forward to receiving the rest 728 Credits…"
Chuvoc had already rushed off, he grabbed Sokak, who was holding his dear brother tied and giving death stares to all potential traffickers. He was rather big and strong for his age of ten. He was already one-fifty meters and quite muscular, plus now inside he was wearing his gang bandana on his upper arm.
"You found a doctor?"
"I'm working on it, bro. We need to 'convince' one of the med droids, "They moved around in the halls. Finally, they found a free one.
"Please keep calm, running in the halls is dangerous."
"Sorry, sorry. It's just our brother Aster Justin Luck, needs help, right now."
The droid processed, "Aster Justin Luck was pronounced dead three hours and twenty-two minu- "
"Over right, C-Jaws 7624753," Sokak stated.
The eyes of the droid flickered, a short silence. The Eyes glowed up, and then a deep voice accrued, "Runner- ehm, … Sokak. You are not on a mission. Get out of the line- this is no- "
"I'm not joking! My brother please. Can u reset the data on an Aster… "?
"Urggh, wait, since then do you have an infant brother?"
"Come on. Please Surplus," he begged.
"Hmm, let me check… already paid… birth time about right… race- that's Lorradian- urgh, human scum. Fine. Let's twerk that a bit to… Z-a-b-r-a-c-k. rest… update required."
"Thanks, sooo much. You have- "
"You owe me. And your little brother, he better joins the C-Jaws ranks. Is that clear. I put it down as recruitment expenses. Don't screw up. Or you must repay in creds or blood. And that's really expensive." With a high tuned pitch, the voice vanished, and the med droid rebooted.
"Please our brother Aster! You have to check him again!"
"Aster…ah yes of course. The funds have been prepaid. I will check him out right away."
It was a few days later. Much had happened. Sokak was in his thoughts…
'Sokak did you find a doctor?' Dexa's voice had been so week.
'Yes, we used an unused alias. Surplus agreed to change the…'
'Wonderful, you found a name. What is it?'
'Eh- the proxy? Aster Justin Luck…'
A hurtful laughter, 'Aaah, Aster J. Luck… what a weird Zabrak name… be careful to keep… the documents. -They might be useful in future.'
'You want to name him ASTER?!'
'Sure- humans have it easiest in this society…. Never waste a gift… Sokak- please keep him strong and above all, keep your brother safe. You'll need each other…I am so proud of you.'
Dexa hadn't made it. She died with her last words to Sokak. He had not left his brothers side since then. Togris, Ran's younger son, had joined him. They were both in the C-Jaws. He was just eight years and mostly just did messenger runs. Sokak noticed Togris in front of him.
"Hello? Bro to bro!"
"Sorry… I was just-" Sokak lastly replied.
"Thinking of her?" Togris watched his reaction carefully.
"Yeah… I just wish… "
"I miss Dexa, too," A few tears rolled down.
"Come here. C-bro!" he hugged him tightly, glancing at Aster. The treatment had done wonders. He was healthy. The two Zabrak hearts had giving him the needed advantage. Now his vitals were stable, and they would leave any hour now.
"He's gonna be one of us, Aster is a real fighter, isn't he?"
"Yeah, nobody can take us on."
