Beginning Notes
tiny trigger warning for more use of swear words than usual
First of all I'd like to apologise in advance for any and all typos, this chapter was written on my phone since I am on holiday in Greece, but just really felt like writing. So yeah, I'll probably fix everything up once I'm back home but for now you'll have to deal with it, sorry.
Anyways, this chapter was inspired by myself, since I was bored and read back some of the older chapters for this, and suddenly got the inspiration after reading about the demigods playing Monopoly lol. And then I thought: what if the demigods played Uno? Characters belong to Rick Riordan, hope you enjoy!!
Piper
'What if-'
'VALDEZ, IF YOU SUGGEST WE PLAY THAT DEVIL GAME ONE MORE TIME, I WILL MAKE SURE TO SEND A MILLION UNDEAD WARRIORS AFTER YOU AND EVERYTHING YOU LOVE!'
And here they were again, arguing over what game to play. Piper sighed and shook her head in disbelief. Nothing could ever go smoothly with them, could it?
Every time the nine of them wanted to get together and have some fun, it always had to be one, big, chaotic mess. Especially whenever they tried playing a game. By now, she'd gotten used to the endless discussion over which game to play, but it was still pretty exhausting. How hard was it to simply all agree on one game?
'Nico, seriously, what's wrong with Twister?' Leo whined.
'Nothing good ever comes from it, and I sure as hell don't want to find out how much worse it can get if we play it with nine fucking people,' Nico huffed, crossing his arms and glaring at the other boy.
'Oh, come on, you're being dramatic, it can't be that bad,' Jason said, but Nico simply sent a death glare his way too. 'Alright, perhaps it is then...'
'Nothing will be able to make me play it, so don't even fucking try, Grace.'
'Enough!'
By this point, Piper was starting to get a bit sick and tired of the endless bickering over Twister, so she decided that they we're going to play Uno, whether everyone liked it, or not.
'How about we just play a classic game of Uno, doesn't that sound good?' she suggested, making sure to put some charmspeak in her words, because she knew only Nico, Hazel and Reyna were immune to it. That way there would be as little fuss as possible, she'd figured.
'That sounds great!' Leo said, and Piper couldn't help but laugh at how easily he'd fallen for the charmspeak.
'Yeah, good idea, Piper,' Annabeth added, and soon everyone else was muttering words of agreement too.
Piper heaved a sigh of relief. Thank goodness her plan had worked.
'Everyone knows how to play, right?' she asked, just to be sure.
Everyone nodded, except for Hazel.
'Wait, Nico, when did you learn how to play it?' she asked, a slight frown on her face.
'Will taught me.'
'Oh, okay!'
Piper then quickly explained the rules to Hazel, as she heard Reyna tease Nico in the background. She tried not to pay to much attention to them, but it was something about how card game dates were lame.
('It's not a date, Reyna!'
'Eh, the point is that there are more interesting things to do with your boyfriend than play Uno.'
'He's not my boyfriend!'
'Whatever you say, Neeks...')
After that, she ran to the Athena cabin, where most of the games were, and quickly grabbed the box with Uno cards, before making her way back to the Poseidon cabin.
'Got the cards!' she said, triumphantly waving the box in the air.
'Alrighty, finally time for some fun!' Percy cheered, while Piper shuffled the cards and gave everyone seven each.
When they were all ready to play, she picked up her seven cards and sighed in disappointment for she had no interesting cards to annoy her fellow players with.
It didn't seem like the others had very interesting cards either, for nothing much happened the first few rounds other than Jason skipping Leo's turn twice in a row and Reyna reversing the round just before it was Piper's turn.
When it was finally her turn again, she didn't have any blue cards, which was the colour that was being played at that moment, so she picked up a card. It was a blue plus 2 card which she could've put down immediately, but something told her to hold onto it for just a little longer.
After her turn, Reyna skipped Nico, and then the chaos began:
'I'm sorry, Frank,' Hazel said softly, as she put down a plus 2 card, but Piper could see the evil smirk playing at her lips.
'Ah, it's not my problem, so don't worry,' Frank answered with a wink, putting down another plus 2 card.
'Oh, no, I am not picking up six cards again,' Leo said, slamming a colour changing plus 4 in the pile. 'Also, I think it's time for some red.'
'Too bad,' Jason snorted and placed another colour changing plus 4 on the pile, 'I prefer yellow.'
Percy frowned, and Piper watched intently as the son of Poseidon counted the amount of cards on his fingers, his eyes widening in shock. 'Oh shit, Annabeth, I'm so sorry...' He then hesitantly placed a plus 2 on top of the ever-growing tower of plus cards.
'No worries, Seaweed Brain.'
Annabeth then placed a plus 2 card down as well, and then it was Piper's turn. Boy, did she feel glad she held onto that blue plus 2 card, because there was no way she felt like picking up 12 cards right now. She was probably going to have thank the Fates for that, after the game was done.
'Oh...' she said, pretending to sound a little frustrated and disappeared. 'That... that sucks-'
'Damn, yeah, you have to pick up twelve, Pipes,' Reyna said, snorting.
'-for you!' Piper said, finishing her sentence and throwing her card down. 'Pick up fourteen, Reynaaa,' she sang, but the Praetor simply laughed.
'Pick up eighteen, Nicooo,' Reyna sang, and held up her hand to Piper for a high five, which she happily gave her.
'You're kidding,' Nico said, who only had one more card left. He was staring straight through Reyna's soul, and Piper could almost see the fear in his eyes. 'Reyna... You haven't put the card down yet, please tell me you're kidding.'
Reyna sighed. 'Yeah, I'm kidding, sorry. You only have to pick up sixteen,' she said, placing down a plus 2.
'Ugh, fucking hell!' Nico exclaimed, and aggressively started picking up sixteen cards as everyone else burst out in laughter.
'Aww, now I feel bad,' Hazel said, and placed down a reverse card since it was her turn again. 'Here, at least go again.'
'Alright, well screw you, Reyna,' Nico said, and placed down a reverse card himself.
Hazel laughed. 'Nico, I said it was your turn.'
Piper couldn't help but roll her eyes, as the two of them kept placing down reverse cards until Hazel called Uno.
'Jeez, Hazel, how many reverse cards did you have?' Jason asked in awe.
'Too many. I kept picking them up, but I couldn't get rid of them,' she explained, shrugging. 'Anyway, Nico, it's your turn.'
'Alright, well there went all my reverse cards...'
'Ugh, finally,' Reyna muttered, but Nico put down a skip card and smirked.
'Nah-ah, screw you, Reyna.'
Piper snorted and placed down her second to last card, but then Annabeth immediately threw down one of her cards and stuck her tongue out at her.
'Pick up two, Pipes, you didn't say 'uno' on time.'
'Oh, fuck off, Annabeth,' she grumbled, as she frustratedly grabbed two cards from the pile.
The game went on and on, and somehow no one seemed to be able to get rid of their cards. Piper could feel the tension building, as everyone was hanging onto their last few cards that they just couldn't play. Well, everyone except Nico who'd had to pick up another eight and still had about ten cards left.
'Uno!' Piper yelled when she played her second to last card again, before Annabeth could get to her.
'Ah, Piper! Why did you have to switch the colour to blue?' Annabeth said, who only had one card left.
'I quite like the blue,' Percy said with a smile. 'Uno.'
'Oh, no, no, you won't beat me, Jackson! Uno!' Jason said, staring Percy down intensely, as he too placed down his second to last card.
Leo raised an eyebrow. 'Oh? We're doing this now? Okay. Uno.'
'Wish I could do that,' Frank sighed and picked up a card.
'I'll do it for you then, babe,' Hazel told him, before player her own second to last card. 'Uno.'
'Yeah, no, I want a chance too, time to end this chain,' Nico said and played a colour changing plus 4. 'Red.'
'Fuck you, Nico,' Reyna hissed, and picked up four cards. 'Ha! Take that!' she then said as she immediately put down a plus 2 card.
Piper looked at the red five in her hand, then at the taunting red plus 2 on the pile and groaned, before picking up two more cards.
Percy didn't have red, and neither did Jason or Leo. Annabeth called Uno again. Frank changed the colour on Hazel who then let out a frustrated sigh.
'Oh, wait!' she exclaimed just as she was about to pick up a card, 'I can still play this!'
Suddenly everything felt like it was in slow motion, as Piper watched Hazel place her green seven atop Frank's blue one. She then smiled triumphantly before everyone else angrily threw their cards down in defeat.
'Ah, I was almost down to seven cards again!' Nico said, slamming his pile of eight cards on the table.
Annabeth threw her last card at his head and complained about how he wasn't on the edge of winning so it didn't matter.
'Well, I was on the edge of winning seventeen times this game, so fuck off, you don't have a right to talk either!' Leo yelled.
'Ah,' Piper thought to herself, 'I resolved the chaos for a while, only to create even more.'
But to be fair, knowing her friends, she should totally have seen that one coming.
End Notes
