Prelude: Wake up, !
Drip… Drip… Drip…
Water drops into shallow pools of more water, sending out ripples upon ripples in its surface, symbolizing the ever-changing flow of destiny among the inhabitants and myriad races of Hyrule and the surrounding lands beyond the mortal realm. Criss-crossing threads of fate intertwine and come apart, seemingly on a whim, but behind this mirage of happenstance occurrences lays a deeper mechanism, controlling all that has and will come to pass. One of these changes is such that should never have occurred, but has now altered the course of history forever; for better or worse, has yet to be determined. This tale starts with the Fateweaver known as Cia, and the darkness seeking to possess the Triforce.
"Cia, you can't do this! You know the hero is bound to another!" a voice argues with the white-haired beauty.
"Silence, Lana. I WILL possess the Hero, and I will make him love me! And I don't need you interfering! From now on, I cast you out of my being, never to rejoin me!" the woman shouts, expelling a beam of light from within, which forms a blue-haired maiden with her face.
"Cia! Stop this now! Don't make me hurt you! Don't force me to do this!" the maiden pleads, before being blasted out of the Temple of the Seer, and into Faron Woods. Cia then turns back to the Well of Souls, before seeing an unexpected change occur within its depths. A vision of the sacred Triforce appeared in the aether, each of the three pieces glowing, but instead of a hollow space in the center, a glowing silver piece appears, a face in the surface of it shining, before turning black. The four parts then separate, each going to different people, one to the Hero, one to the person bound to him, one to her, and the silver piece speeding towards a cave far away from the others, opening up a sarcophagus that has been lost to time, and releasing a shadowy figure from within.
"What's this? I've never seen that happen before. Since when has there been a fourth piece of the Triforce? And what does it embody…" she muses quietly.
Meanwhile, in the snowcapped mountains to the north of Hyrule castle….
"Wake up. It is time, child of destiny… Wake up, ." A voice says inside of someone's mind.
A few White Wolfos are roaming around a cave in the side of a large mountain, hunting for food, when suddenly they stop, almost listening for something, before scattering in fear from the cave, which eschews a pool of shadowy smoke, and a bright light bursts forth from the depths. Inside, at the very back of the cave, a chained up sarcophagus is shaking, trying to open, eventually breaking the chains binding it, and a shadowy figure stumbles out of it, before falling to its knees.
"What- where am I? How did I get here? Who am I? I remember… nothing… Ow! What in six hells is wrong with my hand? What's this triangle all about? Why am I so cold? What is going on?" the man asks, a black-haired youth in leather leg armor and steel plated boots with leather strips wrapped around his arms, as well as a thin leather jerkin.
The man then starts to stumble out of the cave, and out into the snow and ice-covered surroundings of the Snowpeak Mountains, but before long he gets attacked by a pack of White Wolfos, forcing him to fight back.
"Gah! What is this? I need a weapon of some kind! Damn it, this is just my luck. Stuck in the cold with no cover, being attacked by these creatures, and no weapon in sight either! Just great! Seriously, what next, an avalanche? I wouldn't be surprised!" he shouts, ranting on and on, not noticing the figure behind him growling.
Wham! A large, inhuman fist smacks one of the beasts, sending it flying into the others.
The man turns around to meet his potential savior, only to see a 12 foot tall ape-like beast.
"He- hello? Can you understand me?" he asks the creature cautiously.
"Why me not be able to? My name Yeto, little human. What yours?" the creature asks kindly.
"I don't know. Do you know where I am?"
"Yeto know! You in Snowpeak Mountains! You freezing, Hylian? I take you to get warm. Follow me! Wife Yeta know what to do! She smarter than Yeto." Yeto says cheerfully, the man smiling a little cautiously in return. Together, the two then head up the mountain, arriving at a mansion at the summit.
"Welcome to Yeto home! Wife make good soup. Yeto, too. Wife be happy to feed you, little Hylian." Yeto says, the two entering the front doors.
"Welcome home, Husband! Was fishing good? Who this?"
"He not know name. Cold, no cover. Need clothes. And weapon. I think we help."
"Yes, husband. Hello, little human. My name Yeta, Yeto Wife. You cold. Here soup. I get you clothes. And sword. We no need, or fit. You take." She says kindly, handing him a large bowl of pumpkin soup and waddling off.
"Thank you, both of you, for your hospitality. If you hadn't fended off those wolves, I would be dead. I am in your debt, Yeto."
"No mention, Hylian. Was right to do. Needed help, Yeto helped. That all. What you doing in mountains with no weapons or clothes?" Yeto asks, curiously.
"I don't know. All I remember is a sharp pain in my hand and stumbling out of a cave. I had this strange grey triangle on my hand that glowed, if that helps."
"Oh, I hear of before, somewhere… Maybe Triforce? One boy helped great-great grandparents. Had golden triangle on hand. Called it Triforce. Great power. Know nothing else. Maybe royal family know something?" Yeto muses.
"Where is this royal family, if I may ask?"
"Far south. Boy, named Link, come from there. Royal family might know about, too."
"Thank you, Yeto. You've been very helpful." He says, when Yeta returns with a box and a long linen wrapped object.
"Here. Take box. Open. Clothes inside. Help on journey. Weapon old, but strong." She says, smiling.
"Thank you, Yeta. I will cherish these." The man says, opening the box and pulling out a leather and fur chest plate and a fur cloak, and from the linen wraps he pulls out a huge greatsword made out of what looks to be black diamond.
"Look good on you. Keep you warm. Weapon keep you safe." Yeto says, noticing the look on the stranger's face, one of near-recognition at the blade. "What wrong? Not like?" he asks, breaking his reverie.
"Oh, sorry. I just spaced out, for some reason. I just feel as if I've seen this before, somewhere… Thank you, both of you."
"You welcome Zados." Yeta says, confusion on his face.
"Zados? You know who I am?"
"No. You not know name, so Yeta give name. Good, yes?"
"Yes, it is very good. Thank you, both of you. I am in your debt. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Anyways, I need to go. I need to find answers, and the best place to start is Hyrule. Good-bye, my friends." He says, standing up with his new armor on and his sword strapped to his back.
"Goodbye-Zados. Here, take with." Yeto says, scooping some soup out of the cauldron and pouring it in a large glass bottle, and handing him a map. "You eat when need to. Map guide you. Come, Yeto show you quickest way down." the yeti says, the two exiting the mansion and going to a slope.
"This is a shortcut? I don't see anything to help with it." Zados says, confused.
"Watch Yeto, then follow." He replies, breaking a large piece of ice from a spur on the mountain. He then jumps on it and proceeds to slide down the mountain, Zados following close behind.
After a while, the two reach the bottom of the mountain, and part ways.
"Thank you, Yeto. I will never forget your kindness."
"You welcome, Zados. You, keep safe. Bad things out. Not safe." The yeti replies, leaving.
"What does he mean by that? Can't be good, at any rate. Well, time for me to go. Which way is Hyrule Castle, I wonder?" he says to himself, looking at his map and then at the sky, taking note of the positions of the stars. He then sets off, heading in the direction of his destination.
