Volume 0 ch 6: Change

"Good evening Atlas this is ANN correspondent Louis Fergonsin and the top story tonight, Sienna Khan officially begins her role as the new leader of the White Fang. Ghira Belladonna, former High Leader, stepped down choosing to be Chieftain of Menagerie instead. In a press conference earlier this week Belladonna gave his support to Sienna Khan claiming, 'She came to me on her knees praying and looking into those dead eyes I could only think. Kali my beloved wife…. We broke her.'"

"Sienna Khan made a press release later today stating, 'A new dawn has arrived for the White Fang. No longer will we be ignored. We tried protests and petitions and they failed. Now we will make sure Remnant hears our voice.' This followed by an announcement of a new mental health program for the White Fang 'Uqiquke' translated from the native language of Mengin, which means 'Everywhere.' The stated purpose of this program is a mass mobilization of the White Fang in all kingdoms. Khan stated this will show the White Fang will no longer tolerate attacks on Faunus. They state, 'No matter where you are, or who you are, we will find you, cause we are Everywhere.'"

"Tensions are rising in all the kingdoms, with Atlas taking the lead due to the start of raids on SDC mines. These raids have so far been aimed more towards attacking SDC personnel than stealing dust. Experts believe this is because the White Fang currently lacks the infrastructure required to process raw dust. That doesn't mean no dust is taken as reports of one Adam Taurus and his faction are made of them taking mine carts worth of dust. It is currently unknown as to why."

Within the halls of the SDC, ten men sit in a room in a panic. Only one man remains calm, slowly sipping his morning coffee in the chaos.

"Attacks have been through the roof!"

"Our expenses are skyrocketing!"

"Jacques, this is unacceptable!"

With a small sigh Jacques places his coffee down and with a calm expression, addresses his board members.

"I know. I know that at this moment there is a raid on the mine in Western Solitas going on. I know that we have no idea who is supplying the Fang. As it stands our main problem is we are being outgunned."

"Outgunned? Why isn't Ironwood doing anything about this?"

"As it stands, our council hasn't declared the White Fang a threat."

"Are they mad?! Can't they see-"

"Yet." Jacques interrupts, "They haven't seen them as a threat yet. Worry not though, I was in contact with Ironwood earlier before this meeting, he agrees that the army and navy need to be… 'included' in the defense of Atlas property."

Standing up from his chair Jacques heads for the exit. "Wait for the party later tonight I promise you'll be in for a show."

"Sl-low down!"

Inside a warehouse at Snowshoe Shipping at Atlas. Two silhouettes move in the center of all cargo.

"Wait Can't we take a break? Whitley dodges an overhead slash. Stepping back he rolls to the right, just in time to dodge another swipe from the right.

The second figure moves forward and with a two-handed thrust, aims directly at Whitley. Seeing this Whitley tries to move back, but finds his feet tripping over a small box. Landing on his ass, Whitley tries to get back up only for his chest to be kicked. Lying flat on his back, a boot lands on his chest, he tries to get up only to feel a sharp object on his throat. Looking up, he sees his assailant with a cocky smirk running across his face.

Sheathing his blade and removing his boot from Whitley, he holds up a hand for the defeated boy.

"Not bad, you managed to not get hit this time," Rai explains

"Only to end up on the floor. Why not teach me to fight back?"

"I'm teaching you how to SURVIVE. The best way to live from a fight is to not be in one. Of course, that is not always an option, so your current best bet is to learn how to get away."

Holding out a hand, Rai helps Whitley up and then ruffles with his hair.

"You do have a point though. You will be in scenarios where you can't run, so you will have to fight. However, before we begin, you need to get stronger."

"Stronger?"

"Muscles. You need to build strength since as it currently stands you won't be able to lift my blade if you even tried."

Tossing his sword to the ground, Rai eyes Whitley

"Go on, try to pick it up."

Grasping the handle with both his hands Whitley tries to pick up the blade. There is no movement. His grip tightens, as he keeps trying to lift. His breath becomes staggered, as he doesn't give up, "Come on you."

Eventually, reality hits the younger Schnee and he lets go to give his hands a break. Rai moves forwards and grabs his blade with one hand, sheathing it back into his scabbard. "Like I said, muscles. That's enough for today, you've proven consistent so far Popsicle, but you are far from done. Next month we're going hiking to the Aarailen Tundra."

"What's that?" Whitley asked

"Northwestern Solitas is an uninhabited area where, while it is sometimes warmer than Atlas, it also has some of the most inconsistent weather patterns in all of Remnant. We're going there to learn navigation and basic survival in the field. This is in case you end up stranded in, for example, a bullhead crash."

Turning back Rai starts walking to the nearest exit. "You don't have to worry about your father. As far as he will know, your mother, sisters, and you will be going to the cottage near there to be away from Atlas for a bit. You'll be with a select 'security detail' at all times so he won't have to worry about you. You'll get more details from him. Remember…" Rai turns to look Whitley in the eye, "No one in your family can know about me or what we do."

"Yeah…" replied Whitley, still holding his chest as he was breathing. "You sure know how to kick"

Rai smirks, "Comes with practice. I'll see you in a month, take that time to rest up. You'll be getting a list from me soon on what to pack. Oh and do try to have some fun at the party tonight"

With that Rai leaves through the main door of the storage unit.

*Ring* *Ring*

Picking up his scroll Rai smiles, "A phone? What happened, not in the mood to call me via the toilet today?"

"Glad to see your humor lacks its usual punch for once"

"What do you want Bookworm?"

"Your plans with the Schnee boy"

"You eavesdropped huh?" Replied Rai, smile widening, "I'm guessing you have an opinion you would like to share then."

"Yes, surely even you know how crazy this plan is, right?"

"What about it is crazy?"

"Aarailen Tundra. You know just the most uninhabitable area of this whole continent. You're taking a ten-year-old boy to that."

"He isn't going alone, he's going with me."

"Yeah, but you're gonna be helping him a lot are you?"

"Oh and let's not forget the Grimm still there."

"I know, in fact, I'm counting on it"

"What?!"

"I wanna try to jump-start his semblance. It will give him and by extension us, more tools to work with. Figured I could do that by activating survival instincts in a danger zone."

"Are you sure? He's only a kid."

"I'll make it work Bookworm don't worry, now did you manage to get inside?"

"Yes, I was able to get access to the Atlesian Army's files. Encryption was a bitch, but it was worth it for what I found. You might want to see this."

Pulling up his scroll Rai's eyes go wide "When are they revealing this?"

"Tonight, at the party the Schnee's are holding."

"That means they're ready to deploy soon. Change of plans, send Taurus to raid the mine Calimo tomorrow, ALONE. He's going to want what's inside that. I'll meet him there with Snowbird."

"Him alone? Why not bring the Fang?"

"It's what's inside the mine, I need him to take credit for the old stash in there."

"Wait, you want to give the White Fang THAT?!"

"Yes, this protest group will soon become terrorists, and considering what Atlas will be bringing to the table, the White Fang are gonna need to be ready to fight a war.

Schnee Banquet Hall

Making his way through the window Whitley snuck back into his room. "This Aura does help when it comes to this jump. Doesn't hurt as much when I jump now."

A knock at his door grabs his attention

"Master Schnee, your Father requires your presence in his office," called out one of the maids.

"Understood, I will right there."

Quickly changing his attire from a t-shirt and shorts to the suit he was given to wear to the party he walked his way to his father's office. Opening the door he enters, closing it behind him. "You called father?"

Jacques was sitting in his chair looking forward at his desk."Did you seem to forget your manners in that hospital, why didn't you knock?"

"Ah- um. I… I have no excuses father my apologies." Whitley replied, bowing shortly after.

"This will be your only warning boy. You are a Schnee, you have to be at the top of your game."

"Y-yes father I understand," replied Whitley, head still low

"Up boy, I've got news. Your mother, Wiess, and yourself will be leaving Atlas for a bit."

Whitley noticed someone not mentioned, "What about Winter?"

Jacques tenses "She… will not be joining you I'm afraid since she is set to become a huntress. She will stay to continue to get lessons in prep for Atlas this coming fall." Standing from his desk, Jacques moves to his son placing his hands on Whitley's shoulders. "Listen to me boy, I KNOW I come out as a bit harsh, but that is because I'm doing this for this family. I need you to listen to everything I say from here on out. It's for your own good. Understood?"

Whitley stood there stunned unsure of what to say, before finally replying, "Yes father… of course."

Letting his son go Jacques turned his back to his son, "Good, carry on to the party, the guests will soon arrive."

Whitley soon found his way out of his office heading to the main hall. Taking a seat at one of the tables he waited as the guest started trickling in."

Ironwood made his way into the banquet hall, quickly he was greeted by Jacques who took him to his private office where they chartered over some bourbon.

"So everything is set?" asked Jacques

"Yes, the presentation is all in here," Ironwood said pulling out his scroll. "Just get me a holo-table and I will be fine to do the rest"

"Good then let's get on our way, we do have a party to attend to."

Jacques raised his glass

"To Atlas"

Ironwood met it with his own

"To Atlas"

00000

Whitley just greeted the last of the guests as he made his way back to his table. He was exhausted with all the handshakes and smiles he put up. Right now all he wanted to do was sit back and relax.

"Hello brother."

This will never end, will it? Whitley whined in his head

He stood up straight in his chair, "Winter."

She was wearing a white, backless V-neck dress. Taking a seat across from him, she placed her hands across the table. "Do you want to ta-"

"No" Whitley interrupted.

Winter can only stare at her brother in shock at the venomous tone he used. "Whi-"

"What do you want Winter," Whitley snapped "If you haven't noticed, I'm a little tired from greeting all the guests you were supposed to. Oh, wait you don't do that anymore, do you?"

Taking a breath, Winter composes herself, "I just wanted to see how you are doing brother?"

"How am I doing?" Whitley's eyes narrow, "Let's see, I have been held by ransom by soon to be declared terrorists, saw a man killed right in front of me, and to top it all off, I had my birthday ruined because SOMEONE decided it was more important to announce to our easily angered father how she was going to leave the family behind so she can go swing her sword and play hero.

Sweat began to drip from Winter's face, "I understand you are a bit tens-"

"Tense? TENSE?! Winter, I almost died and this family is a disaster. Father's gotten cold, more than usual, I haven't seen mother since my birthday, even AFTER she has been discharged from the hospital" Whitley replied.

"Whi-" Winter tried to say

"Just leave Winter, it's all you seem to be good at anyway." Whitley interrupted her

Reading the room, Winter stood up from the table and began to leave, "Have a good evening… brother."

Whitley chose not to reply.

00000

On stage, Jacques makes an announcement"Excuse me everyone, a moment please,"

All the guests quiet down, slowly looking towards their host

"Thank you, now I would like to thank you all for coming, as you know my own family was attacked and we were forced out of our home for repairs. The White Fang-" Everyone in the audience tensed at the mention of the group, "-have begun to attack the very mines our company operates. Which is why I am grateful to the wondrous General Ironwood, attending this party. He already saved my son from them, and now he comes with news on how our country is prepared to deal with these vile monsters. Ladies and Gentlemen, General Ironwood."

The guests' applause as Ironwood makes his way to Jacques, "Thank you Jacques, ladies, gentlemen, the world we live in is ever-changing. Our kingdom is a kingdom of innovation, and we have surpassed ourselves to survive not just from Grimm, but in a land with a harsh frigid environment. We have all worked hard to make this cold continent our home, where we thrive in our arts and our culture. However, a new threat has emerged to the stability of our kingdom, The White Fang."

"As we speak they have raided our dust mines and injured or killed multiple innocent citizens of Atlas, disregarding whether they are Human or Faunus. I'll be honest with you, this is a threat Atlas has never faced before. With new threats, we need a new policy. This is why as both General of the Atlesian Army and Headmaster of Atlas, I now publicly propose labeling the White Fang as a terrorist organization and have drafted a bill making it so anyone who joins them now can be charged with treason."

The audience remained silent throughout the speech so far

The White Fang, terrorists? Thought one guest.

Treason?! Thought another.

"Our way of life is endangered as it never has been before. Which is why I am proud to present, the army's latest collaboration with the SDC."

Placing his scroll on the table, a hologram of a metallic humanoid figure appears.

"Our kingdom has always looked for a way to find a way to remove troops from the battlefield, and no we have it."

Opening his arms Ironwood announces, "Proud citizens of Atlas, may I have the honor to present to you…"

"The AK-130"

AN: Well…

It's been a while huh?

You'll notice I toned down the humor a bit (Except you Belladonnas you do you ;) ) to focus more on narrative, please tell me how it went so I can see how this fic can be improved

So for this chapter, we hear of the White Fang in action under Sienna's reign. Obviously, the Big Bois kingdoms aren't too happy about this, and Atlas, in particular, has been very very angry. I hoped to introduce Atlas's response to the white fang

Also, we FINALLY see the Schnees speak… well two of them for now. Also, it wasn't much speaking rather than more one telling the other to GTFO, but it shows our little Popsicle boy isn't as naive as others his age.

I also hoped to show the 180 of Atlas culture with Jacques cussing off Ironwood at the first chapter for being useless, to thank him for saving his son. Is it authentic? Well, it's up to your imaginta- no.

Finally, I kinda wondered how those robo bois and soon best girl (penny) were introduced. So I looked at Ironwood's speech for the AK-200 at V2 again. Then I remembered this is Atlas and Ironwood can, and may have to, be more savage on the White Fang when introducing the 130s cause for this fic, these are the first robo soldiers and this will be a culture shock all over Remnant. Especially since they have now been made to fight something OTHER than Grimm.

Don't worry though, our non-energy drink Redbull will come back swinging back in the next chapter.

Please review for suggestions to improve thanks.

See ya in 2122 (not a typo)
