Out of sight near the heart

Harvey comes back to his apartment, he is happy, today was a good day to get Stu out of trouble. He thought of Donna, he wanted to spend the evening with Donna, he wanted her more and more, he wanted to be with her, he was just afraid to tell her. He decides to take his coirage in both hands and call him, he tried to call Mike but he didn't answer that he missed him more than he wanted to admit.

He calls her but falls on his voicemail, his funny voicemail message clicks. He leaves her a message.

-Hey Donna, I thought we could have a drink. I'll leave it to you to see if it's interesting enough for you to call me back.

A feeling of loneliness and unease overwhelmed him. Donna always answers his calls.

When he gets up to bed, he knows that the feeling of discomfort in his stomach is not from the alcohol he has consumed but rather from the fact that Donna has not called back.

The next day Donna wakes up at home and gets ready to go get ready, she had a good evening with Thomas yesterday but there is still a small problem. Deep down, she knows what it is. Thomas is nice, handsome, intelligent and loves her a lot, but his subconscious keeps reminding him that it is not Harvey that she pushes this thought out of her mind. She decided she had forgotten that Harvey wasn't feeling anything except what she didn't know was that she had received a voicemail from Harvey the day before. A voicemail that would have changed his plans from the day before.

Donna doesn't know who she thought she would find on the other side of her door this morning, but it sure wasn't Scottie.

"Scottie. What are you doing here?" she asks, not hiding her surprise.

"I need to know if Samantha Wheeler really is the attack dog Harvey says she is," Scottie replies.

"No. I heard you tricked Harvey into giving you information. I won't let you do the same with me. Donna starts to shut the door.

"It's not about cheating on you, Donna," Scottie said, stopping the door with his hand. "It's about me staying out of jail.

"What?"

"Please. Let me in"

Donna lets her in after this bombshell and Scottie explains to her the problems she is in.

A few minutes later, Donna points to Scottie. She knows what to do. And she also knows Harvey is not going to like it.

Sipping on her wine, she can't seem to get some of Scottie's comments out.

Let's face it. You had a lot more influence on him for a long time than me.

You mean, avoid Harvey?

She knew what Scottie meant.

She should have said, I'm in a relationship with someone else, Scottie so I don't care if you're with Harvey

She knows why she didn't say anything of course. She wants Scottie to stay away. Scottie and all the other women of he world for that matter.

It doesn't mean anything. She tries to persuade herself without much success.

She finishes her glass of wine, gets into bed and blames herself for Harvey's dream.

The next day, when Donna confronts Harvey about helping Scottie, the conversation goes as well as she expected. That is to say very badly.

"Okay, what are you going to do about it?" she asks Harvey.

"I'm not going to do anything about it," he practically spits.

"What's wrong with you?" Said Donna she disgusted with his attitude. He doesn't normally behave like that.

"Why the hell are you defending her?" Harvey replies incredulously Why does she not support him?

"Why shouldn't I defend her?" Donna retaliates.

"Because you've always been…" Harvey hesitates and doesn't finish his sentence. He knows she'll be mad at him if he finishes her.

"Been what?" Gave the challenges. "Afraid to say it?" She lowers her eyes. "Yeah. It's no surprise." Typical of Harvey

After they finish their conversation, Donna walks out and Harver feels pissed off. He is angry with her for making her feel guilty. He is angry with Scottie for putting him in this situation and himself for not making him feel guilty. to have been able to finish her fucking sentence about Donna being generally jealous of Scottie. And he's even more pissed off because he knows he prefers when she is.

Later that evening, she was working in her office when Louis came to ask her for advice on Stan's case. Donna decides to tell him about Thomas.

She is relieved to learn that Louis has no problem with the two seeing each other. But that's where Louis gives her THE question she avoids, the thing she's afraid to do because it will hurt herself before "hurting" him even if she knows he doesn't feel anything. or that he does not want to admit it.

"Have you ever talked to Harvey about this?"

She needs to tell Harvey, and she better do it soon, before things get even more awkward.

It does not matter, she assures. They have always been open to when and if they are dating someone. Or not

But after Louis is gone, she glances over to where she was sitting when Harvey told her about Paula, and her stomach rolls over the dreadful memory in her worst memories of that office.

She has plans with Thomas, then as she is getting ready to go on her date she receives a call from Scottie to let her know that everything has gone well. Scottie is grateful she wanted to thank Donna and Harvey, but she wants to know why Donna decided to help her.

Donna considered her question. "There are a lot of things we disagree on, Scottie, but the one thing we've always had in common is that we both care about him. And you've always protected him. It means something for me "They hold back from adding. He always means something to me, he always will. But get out of his thoughts.

"I called to tell you that I will honor our agreement. From now on, I will stay away from him," Scottie replies.

"I told you, that's not what I meant.

"I know. I will do it anyway. And, Donna. I… I hope one day he will see what everyone sees.

Donna hangs up her phone and sits down in silence. She can't seem to ignore what she said and respond to what she just said, so do I. Scottie, me too. Except it's a hose that will never happen

Harvey pours himself a scotch and stands in his office, looking at the horizon. He brings the glass to his lips feeling the amber liquid that is making its way down his throat burning all the words he's afraid to say to her.

He had just hung up the phone with Scottie and what she told him stuck in his head. And has been running around since he hung up.

She's in love with you, Harvey… but I think she's moving on. If you don't tell him soon, it may be too late.

She had caught him off guard. She saw through him. And for the first time he feels hope.

"Damn," he shakes his head, lowers what's left in his glass, and comes out to see if he can grab Donna, before losing his mind.

Harvey's heart pounders as he walks down the hall to his office.

He's determined not to back down this time, though he has no idea what he's going to tell her, he picks up his pace.

As he approaches Donna's office, he sees that it is empty. Just when he thinks he has lost his chance again he sees her turning the corner towards the elevators.

He swallows the lump in his throat and lets out a shaky breath before advancing towards her.

Be laid back, idiot.

"Hey," Harvey manages.

"Hey," Donna said. Feeling a little embarrassed that she is about to meet Thomas.

"I just wanted you to know-"

"Scottie called to thank me Harvey," Donna interrupted.

"It's funny. She just called me." Harvey puts a hand in his pocket. Say something else! Don't get stuck

"Well, I guess she's grateful to both of us," Donna adds as the tension between them mounts,

"I guess so," he suggests weakly. The hands in the pockets. The beating heart.

"Uh ..." He can't seem to find the words he has long repeated in his head many times during his sleepless nights.

"Did she tell you anything… about…"

The look on Donna's face, in her eyes, makes Harvey want to kiss her. He feels like he can hear her heartbeat and he's sure she can hear them he is so distraught.

Donna's heart is now beating for miles an hour as she is afraid to hope.

"About what?" she questions him, sure that he will not finish this sentence. Because he never does.

"About us ." He is just as shocked to hear those words come out of his mouth as Donna is.

"What do you mean, us?" Donna's voice remains calm despite the panic she feels.

"I mean, you and ... me us." Harvey exhales and wipes his face again with his hand.

"Look, Donna," he continues.

He looks at his feet so as not to see her gaping mouth.

Donna is completely in shock. Her mouth has gone completely dry and she is sure it must be a dream.

Before Donna has a chance to respond, the elevator doors open.

"Oh. Perfect timing." Thomas Kessler smiled as he put his hand on Donna's arm.

Harvey feels the entry of the other man like a punch in the stomach. He feels like the air has suddenly evaporated from his lungs.

There is no doubt what is going on here.

Instead, he hears a voice in his head. His own voice, he thinks, but it's so hard to concentrate.

That's who his plans were with.

She had a morning meeting. With Thomas Kessler.

She broke her rule for another man.

You are too late.

It's too late.

"Thomas". Donna is almost as broken as Harvey, she tries to look natural despite the earth seeming to engulf her. "I thought we were meeting downstairs."

The next few minutes are like a horrible experience for Harvey. He is inundated with a feeling of numbness and ringing in the ears. He feels like he's dead inside and is scared of having a heart attack so much his heart hurts but he knows that's only what it feels like when his heart is broken.

He says something that he forgets as quickly as the words came out of his mouth and shakes his hand, but his vision is hazy and he can't seem to think clearly.

Donna has never been so torn. She doesn't just owe the pain in his eyes, she feels it. A part of herself, an integral part, wants to reach it touch. To comfort him. Say yes to everything she knows he's trying to say.

But his situation is impossible and painful. Thomas enters the open elevator and she follows him.

She turns briefly to Harvey.

"Good night, Harvey," she said softly, her eyes meeting his.

"Good night," he replies. Avoiding his gaze. But it looks a lot more like goodbye.

The elevator doors close and Harvey is left alone. Heart in a pile of pieces thinking about what might happen later but deep down he knows what's going to happen. He won't succeed, it will be too hard.

There is only one solution and coming to think of it Harvey knows deep down that he will have no choice, there are only two ways out of what he feels.

Tomorrow is going to be a tough day. Tonight while Donna is with Thomas he will have for companion only a bottle of Macallan 18 and his grief.
