Chapter Three:
I sat at a picnic table, the cheers and the subsequent success of Curie's project. It most definitely earned her a night of praise and pageantry. Regardless to say, even that I got to play a small role. I'm just relived to drag her over to be applauded and commended by Vince. The whole base camp was lite up and it brought out the happiness of the others.
Despite not sticking around for long, I enjoyed myself as I made my way to my hammock. There was much to be happy about tonight resounding success. But still down in the recesses of my mind, something didn't sit right in my stomach. I had this nagging feeling of impeding trouble.
That unremarkable feeling of being watched like a animal being stalked. Something was off, but rather pursue it. I threw my blanket my lower body, trying force myself to I wake hopefully the feeling should have passed.
The night was warm and sticky and I had trouble staying asleep. Tossing and turning the insufferable balmy weather. It keep me up longer then I expected. Eventually when I did pass out for good, the sun threatens to rise.
It had to be midday the sun was high in the sky when I finally rose up to meet the day. Graciously I felt resoundingly better than last night. Slowly I made my way over to the main area of base camp, I run into Leon.
"Yo!" I shout running over.
"About time, they had to postpone twice today. A few of the guys are waiting by the cliff."
"Any reason why?"
"You'll see." He let out a tired laugh.
"You ain't tagging along?" I question.
"Can't, spending the day with Curie." He let out a grin before taking off.
Rather despondent I began to question myself on what the guys needed to wait on me for.
I arrived about ten minutes later to see a my friend's all sitting on the ground. The basin was a few meter away and so was the base of the cliff. It was huge clearing breaking from the treeline.
Thomas, Nyx, Jacob, Gally and Aris all set in a semi circle. How they manage to rope Thomas in is beyond me.
"Sorry to keep you all waiting."
"Finally the fun can begin. Who's up for a bit of sparring?" Jacob asks.
"Jacob are you insane? You want us fight?" Nyx bolted up.
"Hear me out. One on One, first blood or you submit. That's how you'll win." Jacob explains.
"How you plan on sorting who gets who?"
"Easy, who wants to fight who?" He turns and asks.
Insanity it was insanity but it made sense. Thomas and I have both fought the same people almost at the same time. We've even fought each other. But who did I want to fight. Nyx was clearly out of the picture. No need to fight a friend who's been to the Scorch and back. Gally and Thomas, they we're now friend's can't say if there isn't any animosity left in them for each other.
Aris, could be interesting rematch without the same conditions as last time. But my heart wasn't even in it. Jacob, another good friend. If it hadn't been for me, he still be public enemy number one. Besides I fought along side him. I doubt I have what it takes to beat him. Jacob is a massive tank with a high pain threshold.
"I don't think I wanna participate." I said unwilling to fight my friends.
"That blows." Jacobs complains.
"Sorry guys, just don't feel up to it. If you don't mind I'll be on my way."
I turned away to head back at a slow pace; when a hand grabs my wrist twisting me around. I felt a hard punch brush across my forehead.
"You don't. You don't get to walk away from this. We have a score to settle. You owe me this."
"Gally!" I hissed when my eyes connected to his. "I wont fight you! You have only one good lung left. I won't risk it." I stated clearly.
This time his boot connects with my gut sending me a ways back. I'm forced to gasp out. My eyes slowly began gloss over as anger began to swell. With out anothet word I was upon Gally. My left shoe clashed into his neck with a hard crunch.
Gally drops to the floor nearly unconscious. His body spasm in reaction. But I wasn't done. Grabbing a handful of hair I drag him across the clearing, before kicking him in his chin. I watch as his mouth buckled.
Gally topples over on his back from the kick to his chin. Quickly I pounced on him pounding his face over and over and over. Blood splattering everywhere. Barrage after barrage. Was I really about to kill him?
"Happy now!" I shouted victoriously at Gally limp body. "Is the score settled now!" I wailed in heavy breaths. Yet I wanted more and more I shall have. Yet before I could strike him, Jacob, Nyx, Aris all struggle to pull me off of him. I still had use of one hand. One more hit! But before it could land. Thomas caught my fist and twisted my arm back.
"That's enough!" Thomas calls an end to the fight.
"Wanna die too? My voice hisses.
Suddenly a fist slams into my skull. I see stars for a moment then nothing.
I woke up restrained to a chair, Vince stood over me. He looked disappointed, like an upset father.
"I didn't want to fight. He know that."
"I know that son, but that doesn't mean you try to kill him."
"I lost my temper. You would too if someone sneak attacked you twice."
"Still... It's just lucky he managed to escape with a bruised face. I've decided to give you a day in the hole."
"A day?" I asked confused.
"Only because your tried to walk away and didn't facilitate the brawl." Vince finished sternly before leaving.
'You took advantage of my anger. Managed to slip between the cracks.' I shouted at the Flare.
'Fine blame me. I only acted on your accord.'
'Hope you had fun, this was the last time you'll ever take over in a long while.' I replied in defiance. So thusly my day in the hole without food began.
