Two gaping spiders scurried through the underbrush. Standing half a meter tall on eight spindly legs, the duo were still only broodlings, miniature compared to an adult of their breed. Their faces bore eight beady eyes as black as the night sky, with mouths covered by a pair of sharp fangs between pointed palps. Their bulbous, elongated abdomens curled above their backs, tipped by a secondary pair of fangs that matched the tertiary pair protruding from their heads. They moved with purpose, but not of their own will, rather by that of another. An unseen force puppeteered them through Twilight Forest towards the fortified perimeter of the Nightsister Stronghold. They approached the thick, torch-lit walls of clay and stone bound to wooden posts by rope. There was a shadowy blindspot between two watchtowers where something small could pass unseen. The spiders crawled silently through the dark and climbed up the wall undetected by the sentinels occupying the towers. With stealth and speed, they kept to the shadows, creeping quickly and quietly over to a semicircle of huts where the Nightsisters slept.
They entered the fifth hut, one spider went for the cot, the other went for a wooden bookshelf. The one on the cot loomed over an unsuspecting witch. Wrapped up in fur pelts fast asleep, Silri laid on her back, chest rising and falling with every breath. She was a shapely young woman with pale skin and long dark hair. Her face bore symmetrical tattoos with wing-like markings around her eyes and jagged lines running from her nasal bone to the corners of her mouth. As one spider kept her under it's watch, the other climbed up the bookshelf to retrieve small leather-bound tome. It tugged at the tome with it's front legs and palps, gradually pulling it further and further away from the other volumes it was stuck between. With the asset now on the verge of extraction, the spider on the cot wasted no more time. It crawled over to Silri's left arm, resting exposed on top of the pelts, and bit down on the back of her hand. Silri instantly snapped awake, letting out an angry, pain-filled scream as she smacked the hostile arachnid away, sending it flying towards the hut's entrance. While the spider-attacker struggled to get up after landing on it's back, the spider-thief successfully managed to pry the tome loose from the shelf, and was picking it up off the floor by clamping it between it's abdomen and back. Silri saw the second arachnid carrying her tome and tried to stop it, but the fast-acting venom of the first arachnid's bite had paralyzed her. All she could do was lie helplessly and watch as the creatures got their bearings and swiftly retreated, taking her tome with them. As the spiders vanished from sight, Silri slipped into unconsciousness as her world went dark.
