"Tell me, do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?" Link asked Sonic one evening. It was sunset and nighttime was approaching. Link and Sonic the Hedgehog were sitting by a waterfall. "Well, sometimes," said Sonic. "Okay, enough talk of sadness. I have a favour to ask of you, Sonic," said Link. "Sure," said Sonic. "The day after tomorrow is the princess' birthday. I was going to surprise her with a gift, but... would you go in my stead?" Asked Link. "No problem," said Sonic. "You have... never been to Hyrule, right?" Asked Link. "Right," said Sonic. "Hyrule has a town that is much bigger than our village," said Link. "Wow..." thought Sonic. "I would love to go to Hyrule someday and meet the princess."

"Well, the day after tomorrow is when you'll get to go," said Link. "Anyway, it's getting late. We should be heading back to the village."

"Okay," said Sonic with a yawn. Together, he and Link set off for Ordon Village with their trusty horse, Epona. When they got there, Sonic went into his house for a much needed sleep. But before he went up, he saw four children with Link: Nonny, Molly, Gil and Goby. He smiled and sighed happily as he watched his young friends disappear into the village with Link. Sonic's house was on the outskirts of the village, only a minute away. But, he was the only one who lived in the outskirts. When Link disappeared with the children, Sonic went inside his house. As soon as he did, a pink hedgehog in a red dress and boots appeared and took Epona with her.

Sonic looked out his window and saw the sunset. He also saw Tails looking up at him. "Hey, Sonic, you there?" He called. "Uh, yeah Tails. What's up?" Asked Sonic with a little yawn. "Sonic, do you have enough energy to help me herd the goats?" Asked Tails. Sonic shook himself awake and immediately ran outside to meet Tails. "I think I can do it. It won't take long," he said. "If you want to save time, Sonic, you should do it with Epona," said Tails. He looked around and noticed Epona was gone. "Where is she, anyway?"

"Amy must've taken her," said Sonic. He ran to the spring and sure enough, there was Epona. "C'mon, girl, we've got goats to herd," he sighed. He sleepily mounted Epona and her galloping motion made him fall asleep on her back. Sensing the hedgehog's sleepiness, Epona slowed down her trot so she wouldn't wake Sonic. She walked slowly through the village where Link and Amy waved to the sleeping hedgehog. The children had already gone to bed. Sonic yawned as Epona carried him to Ordon Ranch where all the goats were. The sound of the goats woke up Sonic. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. Tails was among the goats waiting for him. "Sonic, there you are!" He shouted, waving his sleepy friend over. Epona picked up the pace and trotted a little faster up to Tails, nearly knocking Sonic off her back. "Good girl," said Tails, stroking Epona's nose. "So, do you think you can herd some goats for me?" Epona gave a little snort. "Thanks, Epona," said Tails. "How about you, Sonic? Ready to herd some goats?"

"Uh-huh," said Sonic, shaking himself awake.

Sonic and Epona herded ten goats into the barn in just one minute. When they were done, Tails flew over to his sleepy friend on the horse. "Thank you, Sonic," he said. "I can take care of things without having to trouble you, so sit back and relax."

"I thought you'd never ask," said Sonic. "Would you like to practice with the fences?" Asked Tails. "No thanks, bud. I'm too tired," replied Sonic. "Okay," said Tails. "Goodnight, Sonic. See you tomorrow." Epona gently carried her tired passenger over the gate and back into town for a much needed sleep.
