Chapter 5

I distinctly remember my first day of school. I was five years old, walking into what seemed at the moment a huge room with only Caleb, who was almost six at that point, to accompany me. Abnegation parents were frowned upon if they walked their children to school, even on their first day.

So Caleb and I walked in, immediately greeted by a bubbly blonde teacher wearing the red and yellow of Amity. She separated Caleb and I, leading me towards a table with only one other kid there before me - a young boy bouncing from happiness wearing the traditional all black of Dauntless. The name tag hung around his neck read Uriah. He met my eyes and we smiled at one another. The teacher disappeared as more kids funneled through the door. The boy leaned over his desk to get a closer look at me.

"I'm Uriah, but my big brother Zeke calls me Uri." He said with a simple smile. He looked at my name tag. "Betrix?" He questioned. I shook my head, not yet sure if I should actually speak.

"Well, what is it?" He questioned again. I sighed.

"It's Beatrice." I practically whispered out. He tried to say my name, not getting all of the syllables in. He made me laugh, something I shouldn't have done because it wasn't exactly in line with the Abnegation principles. "No, it's BEE AH TRIS!" I basically yelled. The teacher looked over confused.

"BEE EH TRIX!" He said equally as loud. I shook my head with a smile on my face.

"Okay, repeat after me." I told him and he only nodded in response. "BEE."

"BEE."

"AH."

"AH."

"TRIS."

"TRIS."

"Beatrice."

"Me poo poo." (A/N: hope y'all Friends fans enjoyed that(:)

We started laughing all over again. Two little kids just being truly happy and silly together.

"Okay, well, whatever your name is, I think it's too long and I'm gonna call you Tris."

"Tris." I repeated, testing out the sound of my new name. I smiled at my new friend. "I like it."

I woke up to a loud and obnoxious banging on the wall of the transfers' dorm room. I hear groaning which is obviously Christina next to me.

"Why can I not be woken up in a nicer, more gentle way?" She whines. Will and I look at one another and roll our eyes. Will gives her an answer.

"Well, Christina, ya know what? I will be right back with your pancakes and orange juice for your first Dauntless breakfast in bed." Christina smiles.

"Really?" She questions with hope written all over her face. Will gives me a look showing how he can't understand why she thinks he's so serious.

"No!" And with that, he wacks her with a pillow.

Christina eventually gets out of bed, and we all make our way to the cafeteria once we were all dressed. Before I could process what was happening, someone picked me up and carried me over their shoulders. But I recognize the laugh. Uri.

"Uriah! Put me down!" I yelled while banging on his back.

"Nope." He says. I can picture the smirk on his handsome face.

Wait. Am I attracted to Uri?

Why'd I call him handsome?

An hour later I'm put in front of a punching bag with not much direction from either trainer. Apparently they want to see what comes from our instincts or something like that. Since it's the first official day of training, both the Dauntless born and the transfers are in the gym together. I'm at a bag between Uri and Christina.

"Ya know, they can't expect much from us without telling us anything." Christina whines. Again.

"Chris." I huff out between weak punches. "We get it." Uri laughs from my right and Will laughs from the other side of Christina.

All of us continue punching the bags, Uriah doing the best of course, at least in my opinion. By lunch, the transfers are almost all exhausted while the Dauntless borns seem wide awake on adrenaline. Uri plops down in the seat next to me for lunch and slings his arm around my shoulders. All of us, me, Uriah, Christina, Will, Al (though he really doesn't add much), and Uriah's Dauntless friends Marlene and Lynn, soon start a conversation, mostly about training, until Uri turns to face me. Everyone is still in a debate about whether or not the term "pansycake" should really make a comeback.

"Tris." Uri says looking right at my face. I raise my eyebrows and smile slightly.

"Yes, Uri?" I respond, not fully getting why he is dropping out of the conversation about pansycakes because he loves saying the word so much.

He's kinda just watching me. Not in a creepy way, but, I don't know. In a way that I have never seen him do before.

"Uri?" I ask. His eyes refocus and he clears his throat.

"Um, yeah. Well, I was gonna ask if you wanted to do something tonight? We haven't hung out as just us in a while. Maybe after the curfew?" I smirk.

"Uri, are you asking me to break the rules?" He knows I love doing so. I mean, I'm an Abnegation who went to Dauntless and also trained slightly before arriving.

Uriah's face flushes slightly and his easy going smile appears on his face again. "Just answer the question, Beatrix." He tells me and I just nod my head. I love my best friend.

After training, Christina and I are lying on our beds just staring above us.

"That was…" I start.

"The death of me," she finishes. I just nod in response even though she isn't looking at me.

Just then, Uriah walks into the dormitories and plops down on the end of my bed.

"Hey, Trissy, remember when I said that we should do that thing?" I pick up my head, squint at him, drop my head, and just nod. He laughs. "Well," he leans towards me so he can whisper into my ear. My heart rate automatically picks up. "Meet me by the chasm and hour after curfew." He leans back and I just look at him and nod. And with that he quickly stands and strides out of the dormitories.

"Oooh, what was that about?" Chris asks

"Nothing, Chris." I release a sigh. It wasn't nothing, but I could never tell her that.

Okay so there is chapter 5! Sorry it took forever, I was doing online school and didn't want to stare at my laptop more than necessary. Let me know what you think in the reviews!
