Chapter 1: New Beginnings
Not one cloud was in the sky, leaving the bright sun to shine over the Kanto Region. As we drove on the sodded terrain, the smell of freshly cut grass and beautiful chirps of the pidgey that flew by the window calmed my nerves. It was almost as if I was beginning to forget that this was the last day of Summer vacation before I start at my new school. I couldn't shake this feeling of pure bliss; nothing could ruin this moment. Nothing at…
"DAWN!" Snapping out of her daydream, Dawn looked around to see who screamed her name, before remembering she had been in the car with her mom for the past six hours driving towards their new home in the Kanto Region. "What is it mom?" Dawn asked with an annoyed look on her face. "I was asking how are you feeling about starting school tomorrow?" Dawn thought about it for a moment. She honestly hadn't given it much thought until now. All she could think about was leaving her childhood hometown and friends back in the Sinnoh region. Now that the thought entered her mind that she would be starting the tenth grade in a new school where she knew absolutely no one, she started to get a bit anxious. "I don't know mom. I mean I had friends at my old school. Now, I am going to be starting school somewhere where I don't know anybody." Johanna looked at her daughter, feeling a bit guilty that she had put Dawn in this position. "I know honey, but like I said, I couldn't pass up this job opportunity. This will benefit both of us, trust me." Dawn sighed to herself and looked back out the window, hoping her mother was right.
The next day…
Dawn woke up to the aroma of her mom making breakfast. As she walked down the stairs, she knew she was about to have her favorite breakfast, pancakes and eggs. "Mom, how did you get the stuff to make this already?" Dawn asked, but really didn't care just as long as she got a plate full of her favorite breakfast. "Well honey, as we were unpacking you fell asleep pretty early, so I brought you to your bed and went to the store to pick up the ingredients for your favorite breakfast," Johanna said with a smile on her face. After breakfast, Dawn went upstairs to get ready for her first day of school. As she was getting ready, she got a text from her mom saying the bus would be outside their house in five minutes to get her. This caused Dawn to scurry around her room to make sure she had everything she needed. Once she was ready and double checked she had everything she ran down the stairs and out of the house to catch the bus. Johanna went to the door and shouted after her, "Good luck on your first day honey, I love you!" Realizing it was her mother's first day too, Dawn shouted back "Good luck at your new job, Mom!" And with that Dawn got on the bus and was off to school. Johanna smiled as the bus pulled away, thinking to herself "I hope I made the right choice in moving us here."
…
As the bus pulled up to the school, Dawn looked out the window and couldn't believe what she was seeing. There was a enormous building that had to be at least half a mile in length with the name "Kanto Regional High School" plastered on the front. The layout of the school reminded Dawn of a small college campus, with multiple baseball fields over on one side, a beautiful football field with long steel bleachers. There was also about a thousand students just outside the front doors. Dawn looked at this scene unfold in front of her "Well here goes nothing" she thought to herself as she made her way through the sea of students to the front door. After finally getting inside, Dawn looked down a long hallway to see almost just as many students as outside. "You've got to be kidding me, how many students go to this school" she thought as she started walking down the hall looking for the front office.
When she found the office, she walked inside and saw a girl with long brown hair talking to the secretary. Dawn stood there waiting for them to finish speaking, until the secretary took notice of her. "Good morning, can I help you with something dear?" Relieved to hear a kind and soft voice from the first person she talked to made it feel like a good start to the day. "Hi, my name is Dawn. I am a new sophomore here. I just moved from Sinnoh so I have no idea where to go." The secretary smiled warmly "Well, perfect timing Ms. Dawn. I'd like you to meet Leaf" she said pointing to the brunette she was talking to a few seconds ago. "Leaf here is in charge of showing new students in the sophomore class around, and I am sure she would be more than happy to take you to your first class." Dawn looked at the brunette who was smiling and waving gently at her. "Well, seeing that classes start in ten minutes, I'll let you two get acquainted." And with that the secretary sat down and began typing away at her computer.
"So Sinnoh huh, that's really far from here." Dawn nervously shook her head. "Ah come on, don't be nervous I'm here to help, and even be your friend if we get along" Leaf said with a gentle smile on her face. Dawn smiled back, feeling comforted by the girl's kind words. "So where are we headed?" Dawn asked trying to start a conversation. "We are headed to Evolutions class first." Dawn was confused as to why they were headed to a class when she hadn't even seen her schedule. "You're probably wondering how I know which class to take you to huh" Leaf asked. This caused Dawn to get a surprised look on her face to which Leaf noticed immediately and giggled. "Before you came to the office, I asked if there were any new students for me to show around. Turns out you are the only new student in the sophomore class." That was the last thing Dawn wanted to hear, being the only new student meant she would have no one to connect with on that level. "Great" Dawn said sarcastically. Leaf looked at her and shook her head, "Don't worry Dawn, you're going to be fine, trust me. Anyway, I asked the secretary if I could see your schedule before you got in and it turns out we share a couple of the same classes, including Evolutions." This actually caused Dawn to smile and feel at ease knowing there would be at least one familiar face she would see throughout the day. The rest of the walk to the class was Leaf talking to Dawn about other aspects of the school. As they approached the classroom door, Dawn prepared herself for what was to come, this new beginning.
Thanks for reading guys, I know it is short, I just wanted to do the first chapter and get a feel for how to go on with this. I appreciate it if you have taken the time to read it. The next chapter will start to introduce the rest of the characters and will be longer I promise.
