Chapter 1: Percy

"So let me get this straight." Said Jason, his faced wrenched into a confused pose. "You died. You went to Elysium and then you woke up facing Annabeth." Percy smiled; he has spent the last few hours answering his friends' questions. Leo and Jason had been shocked to see him when they arrived in Alexandria. Percy was glad to see that his friends were okay, although Jason's bear hug was nearly as painful as dying. The four demigods were sat on a pier. The Mediterranean swirled beneath the floor. Since leaving the underworld Percy felt more powerful than before. He could feel every droplet of water in the ocean, every plant and every sea creature. Percy was also glad his gifts had returned. However he was saddened when he discovered that his faithful sword, Riptide, had not returned with him. He turned to face Jason.

"Yeah, something like that." He replied.

"Well thank the gods you did." Said Annabeth, taking his hand. "Because we need to find the next staff. Leo?"

"About that," Leo responded sheepishly, "the cube can't find the staff's precise location. There's some kind of interference across this whole city." Percy looked at his free hand. On his palm was the small Eye of Horus. Looking back at the others he realised he had a contact who knew more about Egypt than anyone.

"I know someone who might be able to help us." He said.

"Who?" asked Leo. Percy raised his hand to his face, pressing the Eye.

"Carter Kane." He whispered. Under his feet the pier planks cracked. Percy jumped back. The cracks lead to the stone street a few metres away. A line of sand continued the line.
"It's a pathway!" exclaimed Annabeth. The demigods followed the line off the pier and into the ancient city of Alexandria.

After roughly half an hour of walking through the scorching heat the group reached a small plaza. Several cafes and restaurants surrounded the demigods. Percy noticed the sea breeze scything through the sunlight. The line of sand stopped in the middle of the square.

"Now what?" asked Jason. The trail seemingly had gone cold. Percy scanned the square. Unusually nothing stood out to him. His eyes read every sign but nothing caught his attention. Percy was about to concede that the trail failed until something snuck into the corner of his eye. In the corner of the plaza was a small cafe. It didn't stand out; it had several small tables outside and a red canvas cover. It was the name that drew Percy's attention: Sadie's.

"Sadie's?" he said.

"Sadie's? As in Sadie Kane?" replied Annabeth.

"I think so."

"Who is Sadie Kane?" asked Leo. Percy ignored the question.

"I have a feeling that's where we are being led to." He continued. The demigods walked over to the cafe.

Inside the cafe nothing stood out. Several tourists occupied the tables. A few baristas were serving various refreshments and the walls were covered in photographs of Alexandria. At the back of the room was a door. The door was emblazoned with an Eye of Horus. The frame was misty. Percy could tell that the humans around him had no clue of its existence. Percy made his way towards the door. Pushing it open he was met with a rickety wooden staircase. He ascended the stairs. At the top was large room. Percy entered the room to see a young man pouring over scroll atop a desk. The man turned around.

"Percy Jackson? It's been a while."

"Carter Kane. It's good to see you."
