The next morning, Chanel had gone out for a run, just like she did every morning. She was as athletic now as when she was a baby. She usually ran alone. Except this time, she invited Hallelujah with her.
Chanel was trying to get Hallelujah to tell her what the prophecy included. What Hallelujah had to do, but she didn't say anything. The seven year old simply said what she had told Aisha, Rachel and Genevieve. That someone would get hurt.
Everyone tried all day to get Hallelujah to talk, but she wouldn't tell them what is was that she had to do. But all they got out of Hallelujah was the same answer as Aisha, Rachel and Genevieve. That someone would get hurt. Hallelujah never gave a name, or said who it was that would get hurt. Only someone would get hurt.
Although hurt it a very broad term. It could mean anything, and Hallelujah never specified how someone would be hurt. If they would just get a little injured. Or if they'd be hurt in the way you don't come back from. If they would be dead.
Later in the day when Hallelujah was in her room talking with Genevieve, they discovered something that made them even more connected than they already felt. Genevieve had a unique birthmark too. On the bottom on Genevieve's right foot, she had a birthmark of a string of seven stars.
"Seven." Hallelujah uttered, still staring at the bottom of Genevieve's foot.
Genevieve furrowed her eyebrows, "Is that significant?"
Hallelujah nodded, "In the Bible, anything that was important, God would give seven signs."
"So I guess you being seven is significant too?"
Hallelujah nodded again, "Yeah. It wasn't an accident. It was ordained by God. Just like your being here."
"Right." Genevieve replied
"Do you have any powers?" Hallelujah wondered
Genevieve shook her head, "No. Just genetic memories of things I never learned or experienced. What about you?"
"Mummy was a fate, so I have some of her powers. But I also have divine understanding, like my Daddy."
"That's really neat."
Hallelujah just smiled. She thought it was cool too.
Charlie had been standing in the doorway, watching her daughter speaking so openly with Genevieve. Hallelujah really could talk to anyone and everyone. She had never met a stranger. Just like with God, in Hallelujah's eyes, everyone was family. Right now though, Charlie just wished her daughter would talk to her. She wished her daughter would tell her, or anyone, what it was that the prophecy required.
The now 37 year old Katherine Andrade walked up and stood beside Charlie, leaning against the other side of the doorframe.
"Everything alright, Charlie?"
"No. It's not. She's shutting me out. I thought I had more time before I reached the teenage years with her."
Katherine glanced at Charlie, "Hallelujah's not shutting you out. Whatever it is that she's supposed to do obviously scares her. Sometimes the idea of talking about the things that scare us are even more frightening, because talking about it makes it more real."
"And if she's scared, I want to be able to help her deal with it." Charlie added
"God is helping her. We just have to trust Him."
Charlie let out a breath, "I do trust Him, but it's still hard not being able to help my own daughter."
Katherine nodded, "I know."
It was almost two weeks later with one day left until the fortnight period was over. Hallelujah still hadn't said anything about what she had to do.
That night when she looked up at the sky, she saw a flicker of something approaching. It was moving fast. As it got closer, Hallelujah realised that it was the ship she had envisioned two weeks ago.
"It's almost here." Hallelujah uttered
She was dreading the moment that would follow. She knew who was on that ship. She knew who she had to face and what it would cost her. A single tear rolled down the little girl's face just seconds before there was a knock on the door.
Hallelujah turned around, "Hi Startle."
"Hey Halle." Startle greeted, "Are you okay?"
"She's here."
"Genevieve? I already know about her. She's been here for two weeks."
Hallelujah shook her head, "No. Adria. She's back."
"The Orici?"
Hallelujah nodded, "Yeah. That's what I have to do. I have to face her."
The seven year old remembered Adria from when she was still in her mummy's womb. She heard Adria and knew that Adria was a terrible person. And how powerful the Orici had been. Granted, Adria's not as powerful as before, but Hallelujah was still nervous to face her.
"And something bad is going to happen when you do?"
Hallelujah nodded again, but this time she didn't say anything.
"Can you tell me what?" Startle wondered
Hallelujah took a breath, thinking for a moment. Then she leaned forward and whispered into her sister's ear.
Startle gasped, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah." Hallelujah mumbled, giving a solemn nod.
"Anything you can do to prevent that?"
Hallelujah shook her head, "No." She blinked sadly, "It has to happen. It's the era of sorrow."
"Right." Startle uttered. She wore a grave expression on her face as she pulled Hallelujah into a hug.
Hallelujah hugged her sister back, snuggling up against her.
"You know, you really should tell Dad and Mama Charlie."
Hallelujah pulled out of the hug, shaking her head, "I don't want anyone to get hurt."
She knew there wasn't anything she could do to prevent what would happen, but she had to at least try.
"They need to know, Halle."
"Tomorrow." Hallelujah replied, "Go with me?"
She sounded much younger than a kid of seven years old, and for Hallelujah that was saying something, given how she usually sounded much older than seven.
"Of course." Startle assured
Hope you enjoy. Comments are greatly appreciated. In fact, they keep me going.
What would you like to see happen next?
What did you think? Were you shocked? What do you think Hallelujah whispered to Startle? What bad thing do you think is going to happen when Hallelujah faces Adria?
