Due to the unbelievable amount of traffic, it took her about one hour to get there, despite not living far away. But luckily she had planned in a lot of time and therefore, Juvia had finally arrived without having to worry about being late.
Glancing at her watch, she took a deep breath. There were fifteen minutes left until 3 pm, the time of her appointment. That was good, not too early but not too late either. She checked her bag again, making sure she had everything she needed with her and opened the front camera on her phone, quickly adjusting her hair and lipstick. It was time.
Juvia looked up to the building in front of her. It was huge, pretty modern and couldn't be missed, because the name was written in big, bold letters at the top:
FULLBUSTER CONSTRUCTION INC.
It was one of the biggest construction firms in the country. The Fullbusters had made themselves quite a name with their family owned company. It was now in the third generation, lead by the one and only Silver Fullbuster, a rich and well known man. Juvia had seen him on her TV from time to time, appearing on the news or being presented at fancy events. All her impressions of him where based on the things she saw there or read in the magazines.
But that would change soon. Because now she would get to meet him in person. The thought made her nervous. Sure, her boss had been swooning over him, just being positive and talking about what an amazing guy he is and how good the firm treats their employees, but it didn't do anything to calm her nerves.
If it wasn't for her boss, she wouldn't even be here in the first place. Juvia knew he was only meaning to do good, when he recommended her to Mister Fullbuster, but she still couldn't help feeling a little hurt. Juvia liked her job. Sure, the company wasn't that big compared to Fullbuster Construction and the payment could be a little better, but it was enough for her. She liked her colleagues and her work was good. Too good apperantly. Because her boss felt bad about keeping her to himself.
"You're potential is lost here, Juvia. You could do so much more, so much better." Juvia can still hear his words in her head, as if he was standing right in front of her. "The world is too big for you to be stuck here. That's why I recommended you to someone, a close friend of mine. He has a well known and successful company. He's interested and wants to meet you. You'll be in good hands there. Listen to me: You're a flower that still needs to bloom Juvia. I believe you'll be able to finally do that there. And you will turn into the most beautiful flower ever."
Her boss had quite the dramatic side if you couldn't tell. A flower? But despite that, Juvia couldn't help but be touched. She cried a lot that day. When she arrived back home, her eyes were puffy, swollen and red. She was just so touched and grateful.
Although that gratefulness faded when she got the invitation letter and found out that the close friend was the one and only Silver Fullbuster. Sure, it really was an amazing chance and Juvia was damn lucky to get it, but it was also freaking terrifying. It took a lot of persuasion from the people around her until she finally accepted the appointment. And now here she was, regretting it all over again. She couldn't shake the nervousness away.
But there was no going back. She had to do it, for herself and everyone who believed in her. Juvia took a deep breath before pushing the door open and entering the building.
She walked up to the front desk, fidgeting nervously. There was a girl around her age sitting there, busy talking on the phone. Juvia waited for her to finish while checking out her surroundings. She kept seeing people coming and going in a rush. Some were talking into their headsets, others were getting their coffee before hurrying back to their offices. Everyone seemed so busy. Juvia glanced back to the girl at the front desk who just finished the call.
"Hello, how may I help you?"
"Um, hello. My name is Juvia Lockser. I've got an appointment at 3 pm with Mister Fullbuster."
The girl checked out something on her computer before nodding.
"Ah yes, Miss Lockser. Please take a seat, my colleague will be here shortly. He'll accompany you to the office." She gestured to the chairs positioned near the entrance.
"Thank you." Juvia was fidgeting nervously in her seat. She was getting more nervous, the longer she had to wait. Why can't she just get it over with already? It felt like forever until someone finally came up to her.
"Ms. Lockser?" Looking up, Juvia saw a young man in front of her. He was smiling. "My name is Eve Tearm. Please follow me."
He didn't wait for her response, he just spun around and started walking towards the elevators. Juvia stood up quickly and followed him. They got in and he pressed the button to the highest floor.
"So you have a job interview here?"
"Um, yes.."
"That's pretty cool. I'm just an intern and still pretty new here, so I can't tell you much. But Mister Silver is a pretty nice guy, so no need to be nervous." He glanced at Juvia, pretending not to notice her shaking hands.
"I can't help it."
"Understandable. Don't be nervous is a pretty lame and useless advice. I dont know why I said that. I still get nervous, every time I walk into the building. I guess there is just something about it."
"Glad to know it's not just me." The moment Juvia said that the elevator doors opened. Eve stepped out and she followed him closely while looking around the empty hall.
"Well, we are here. Just wait until he calls you in. Oh, and good luck!" He turned around leaving Juvia all by herself. She took a set on the empty chair, waiting for someone to come or call her.
"You can do this, Juvia. No big deal. You had job interviews before. What's the worst that could happen?"
Bad thought. Flashing before her were several interviews she had taken. Let's just say they didnt go as planned. Juvia remembered the one where the guy lashed out on her because he was getting irritated with her talking in third person. It was something she used to do when she was younger, you could say a side effect of the things she went through back then. Luckily, she managed to stop doing that because after the humiliation that day, Juvia was terrified to speak for a whole month.
If it wasn't for Gajeel threatinging to go beat up the prick that scared her, Juvia would have probably never talked again. But she couldn't let Gajeel get into trouble because of her.
"Ah, there she is. Welcome to Fullbuster Construction. You're here for the job as the office assistant, right?" Juvia looked up to the man who was now standing in front of her, Silver Fullbuster. Juvia stood up and shook his hand that he had outstretched.
"Yes, I'm-"
"No need for introduction. The blue hair gave you away, Miss Lockser. Anyways, please follow me into my office. There are a few things we need to talk about. My son will be here soon too. Since you'll be working in his department I thought it's the most logical for him to also be here."
"Yes. Of course." Juvia nodded while following Silver into his office. Her boss wasn't kidding when he talked about how positive and cherry he is. He seemed very nice too. But what did he say about his son? Juvia thought she'll be working with him. It's not that she desperately wants to work for Silver, just being in his company alone is freaking her out. But his son.. he didn't know anything about him. With Silver, she could prepare a little. But this was unknown territory and Juvia didn't like it at all.
"Please take a seat."
"Thank you, Mister Fullbuster."
"No need to be so formal. Just call me Silver. Otherwise I will feel so old." Silver laughed, making Juvia chuckle.
"Of course, Mi- Silver."
"So, Juvia. Can I call you that?" Juvia nodded. "Good. Juvia, tell me a little about yourself. Not the things listed in your resume. I read that already, pretty impressive. But I want to hear about you as a person. Having a good climate in the company matters a lot to me. So I need to be sure you fit in. You understand that, right?"
"Oh. Yes, of course."
"Very well. Go ahead then. What do you like to do in your free time? What's your hobby?"
"Um, I like swimming. I used to be on my school's swim team."
"Mm, I thought so. I read that you're a licensed life guard."
"Yes, I used to work at the beach during the summers before I finished my traineeship and got a full time job at the company."
Silver continued asking a bunch of questions. It wasn't bad though. He was very chill and didn't seem disappointed with Juvias answer. He would nod from time to time. Sometimes he'd grin at her too.
"And relationship wise?" Silver looked at her, a gleam in his eyes.
"Um.. I.. " The door opened before Juvia could answer. A young man around her age came walking in. He was well built and had raven hair. He glanced at Juvia before turning his attention to Silver.
"Sorry, I'm late. There were problems I needed to take care of."
He was handsome. No, handsome wasn't enough to describe him. He was more than that. Juvia was sure, women would totally kill for him. And his voice. His deep, beautiful voice. Juvia couldn't help but swoon.
"Ah, don't worry about it. We're almost done though. It's going pretty well, don't you agree?" Silver looked at the blunette that had turned quiet. He saw her stealing looks at his son and Silver couldn't help but smirk. Something tells him, Juvia will be more than just an employee in the company. He looked back at his son who was staring at him, a questioning look on his face.
"Son, that's Juvia Lockser. She'll be our new office management assistant. I plan for her to be in good hands at your department." He stood up and looked at Juvia, gesturing at his son.
"Juvia, meet my son. Gr-"
"I can introduce myself you know." He gave his father a look before turning towards Juvia and holding out his hand.
"Hey. I'm Gray Fullbuster." Juvia took his hand, shaking it awkwardly while praying that they weren't so sweaty because that would be embarrassing.
"Juvia Lockser. It's very nice to meet you." Gray looked at her, shamelessly checking her out.
"Nice to meet you too, Juvia." Juvia nodded, not sure what to say next. She could see Silvers huge grin and it did start to freak her out a little. Why does he keep grinning like that?
"So, Gray. Do you plan on letting go of her hand anytime soon?"
They both looked down to their hands, realizing that neither had let go yet. Gray looked at her, immediately turning away when he saw her looking back, and removed his hand.
"Eh, I'm sorry.. I didn't realize-" He glared at his father, communicating through his eyes with him. They seemed to be discussing something without using words. It was Silver who broke the awkward silence.
"Well, Juvia, congratulations. Your first day here starts on Monday. My assistant will message you all the details." He handed me a card. "If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask."
"T-thank you." Juvia got the job? Just like that? She couldn't believe it. She would really be working at Fullbuster Construction from now on. She couldn't help the huge smile appearing on her face. She didn't realize that a certain raven haired boy had been staring at her all along.
"I look forward to working with you, Miss Lockser." He smiled at her before turning around and leaving the room. Juvia couldn't help but watch him leave the room. She'll be working alongside him from now on, the one and only..
..Gray Fullbuster.
