Natalie was shattered, the heart of her love had stopped.
He was dead?
Most likely yes.
It looked like Dr. Rhodes was throwing in the towel.
Meggie had taken her away, it was as if she were trying to protect her.
Holding back the tension, the nervousness, the pain, the fear of her had caused her a terrible headache.
She was supposed to scream, cry, but she couldn't do it. She didn't want to be taken away. Because of that malaise, however, she had achieved just what she wished would not happen.
She and Meggie had just exited the observation gallery to head to the doctor's room when they met Sharon and informed her of what had happened.
They didn't know Jay was there in the waiting room, though. He too was sick and sat with his eyes down and staring at the floor.
In a moment, hearing what the three women were saying, he jumped to his feet making a tremendous effort and then collapsed to the ground.
Once back in the room, Natalie lay there, lying on her bed without saying anything.
It was as if everything had been locked in a chest to which only she had the key.
Dr. Charles was there, but she didn't seem to notice.
- Natalie - he said trying to get her attention - would you like to keep us company? May I sit here? -
The woman agreed by nodding at her. She seemed to have no great desire to talk.
- We could have a little chat if you like, - the psychiatrist asked.
- And what about? There's not much to say - the doctor said dryly.
- I would like to know what happened and also how you feel. - replied the doctor
- He already knows. I'm .. - Manning said, freezing and bursting into tears.
- Yes, you mentioned something to me, but I'd like to hear from you. - Charles replied
-Will ...- she tried to say as she sobbed - he's ... His heart stopped. -
- It can happen that the heart stops during an operation. There is also the conspicuous amount of blood that Will has lost and also that he has been on the operating table for several hours now. - said the psychiatrist.
- Yes I know. But, he is ... he .. - she added with difficulty.
- Do you know what? I don't think it is. Yes, it's true. It was a shock, but maybe you left too soon and he recovered. - Charles answered trying to show her the positive side of the situation.
Initially she didn't hear what the doctor had said, she continued to be immersed in her thoughts.
