No.

No.

No!

Jellal stared at the woman lying in the bed, her bandaged chest rising and falling too slowly. Brown eyes met his, and she coughed weakly. "Y-your majesty…" Blood slid out of the corner of her mouth, he reached out to wipe it away. "I apologize but…"

It was obvious to him that talking was taking too much of her, and he shook his head. "Don't talk, save your strength for getting better!" A rare command from him, as the two were alone, but dammit, he needed her to live. If she died… Jellal wasn't sure he could go on. Erza was more than a soldier to him, something that they had kept a secret from the rest of the nation, and dammit if that was why she had…

"Don't…" He looked at her in confusion, almost comforted by the smirk on her lips. "I moved in front of you because you are my king. I…" Another cough, this one worse. "I am fine with this… You… You need to live."

Only Erza would be like this. One minute she would be so angry that someone else seemed to be interested in him, and the next she would be all business. He would've married her, they both knew, if it weren't for the fact that she would've hated the confines of being Queen of Edolas.

Not that such things mattered now. They both knew that she was dying, no matter how much he tried to deny it. A pained look shone in the young king's eyes as he gazed down at the woman who had given everything for him. It should've been him there, having been ambushed on the way back to the Royal City from a visit with a noble family that had been raising an army suspiciously. She had done her duty, and protected him, at the cost of her life.

A hand caressed his cheek, and he realized that she had managed to raise her arm to do this. A wry smile crossed his lips at the typicality of this situation. She always was the strong one, refusing to back down to any enemy. This was the most comforting she ever got, no words, just actions. "I love you," he murmured softly, clutching at the hand.

He had said it several times, and she always flushed and told him he was being sappy. But not this time. "I love you too Jellal…" And then she closed her eyes, unable to even keep them open.

She was gone before the hour was up.

A/N: I realized I haven't written anything angsty for this fandom. And randomly felt like it today. So, umm, yeah, gonna go cry now.
