MONICA'S DECISION

"In breaking news tonight, the Berlin Military Airport was broken into by the notorious Volksfrei political terrorism movement. Footage from the security camera shows a small group of armed men assault the security and force their way onto the premises, where they proceed to blackmail chief of airport security Herr Otto Brandt for the release of Marc Chaput, leader of the notorious Les Ombres Armées, French political terrorism movement. The two terrorist groups have often allied in the past, most notably the instance in 1968 when they attempted to assassinate the American president, claiming it was due to America's over-involvement in the Vietnam war, and concern that America posed a threat to European autonomy prior to declaring independence from England centuries ago.

"It seems not too long ago that previous Volksfrei leader Fuchs was shot to death in his own home, however apparently a new leader has stepped up to take the mantle of leader of the Volksfrei. Here, his face can clearly be seen as he attempts to bribe Brandt into releasing Chaput. Witnesses state they believe him to be no older than 18 or 19. Here, he has clearly given his name as 'Hans Gruber'. Has the youth been ignorant enough to give his real name, or is that a clever alias? Hopefully we won't ever find out, if this lad learns his lesson after staying behind bars. He is being taken into custody by our fine police force as we speak, where he will await trial for terrorism and attempted genocide.

"Live, at Berlin Military Airport, here is our reporter Wolff, present at the crime scene. Wolff, what can you tell us about this shocking event?"

Monica slammed the power button on the TV, her eyes narrowed in anger. Having gotten over her initial shock at her boyfriend's involvement with a terrorist group, she felt nothing but rage. How dare he lie to her like that! Scratch that - how dare he threaten all those innocent lives! And with such blatant disregard for anyone but himself, too!

Reels from that news item kept playing in her mind. Hans had pulled a gun on the terrified airport chief of security, and blackmailed him for the release of a terrorist - another terrorist, she corrected herself. Unless he was bluffing (which was unlikely), he had also planted a bomb on one of the planes. Had he successfully blown that up, he could have killed hundreds of innocent passengers, if not every single person in the airport!

How long had this been going on? Had he been a terrorist since the day she'd helped him out after he'd gotten piss drunk? Probably - nobody became a terrorist that quickly, surely? You naive, stupid, stupid girl! She thought angrily to herself, and resisted the childish urge to stomp her foot with every thought. Instead, she vigorously wiped her lips, feeling filthy and disgusted with herself. To think she had kissed the man who, for all she knew, had participated in the attempt to assassinate her president!

It wasn't her fault, she reminded herself. She couldn't have known the man who seemed genuinely interested in her would turn out to be such a bastard? She shuddered. What kind of diabolical scheme was he planning to pull off with her? She was perhaps lucky to be alive.

The instant that thought crossed her mind, she picked up the phone to order flight tickets. She didn't give a shit about the cost. She just wanted to get as far away from Germany as physically possible.
