Chapter 1: Dragons and Rabbits and Robots, oh my!
Well, this is new to me, I guess we'll see how this goes.
Hey howdy hey hello, welcome to the show! I'm The Gamer With A Pen, Enigma.
While I mostly make my own original stuff over on Tapas, I do dabble in fanfiction for fun, and decided to post some of it here.
So, enjoy, I guess.
Feel free to review, but don't just rip into me. I'm doing this for fun, not excessive criticism.
Wyva Hiryu stood outside the gates to U.A.'s entrance exam, trying to brace herself.
It had been a fight to convince her parents to let her attend, let alone take the entrance exam. This would be her only opportunity.
She stood at 5'9" and was rather lanky, her skin was pale white, and her eyes were pale blue, framed by matching glasses. Her hair was silver, and reached just past her shoulders. She wore a simple grey tracksuit, with holes in the back to accommodate her large, draconic silver wings and matching tail.
"'Scuse me!" Someone shouted, rushing past her. She couldn't even think to say anything as they bounced past her, a notable spring in their step.
The person in question was a boy, shorter than her, being 5'6". They had rich brown hair and bright green eyes, their hair reached their shoulders, and it was clear they hadn't brushed it. Their skin was white with a distinct tan, and they spoke with an American accent. They wore a pair of heavy-looking black boots alongside a pair of dark blue jeans, a black t-shirt with the Pro Hero Mirko on it and a green hoodie with floppy bunny ears on the hood. Their legs were notably thick and muscular.
Hiryu slowly made her way towards the gates, on the outside she appeared calm, collected, even cold, but on the inside she was panicking as heads turned her way. Her heart was racing, and her palms were sweaty with all the eyes on her.
That didn't last long, as the boy who had rushed past her before made something of a scene, tripping over his own feet and busting out a probably unnecessary breakdancing move to catch himself, flipping back to his feet. A few people jokingly applauded him as he took a bow. Hiryu breathed a sigh of relief as she was no longer the center of attention.
"Who is this mysterious man?" She asked herself.
"Go, go, go!" Moxie Usagi said to himself in English, running as fast as he could to reach the gates, bouncing with each step he took. He rushed past a tall, silver-haired girl to get through the gates, "'Scuse me!" He managed to blurt out, switching to Japanese briefly.
He stumbled while slowing his momentum and tripped, nearly hitting his face on the pavement. Catching himself with his hands, he held his legs up in the air, busting out a breakdancing move before flipping to his feet, trying to make it seem intentional.
"Bounce, bounce…" He said to himself quietly as he landed, hopping in place once or twice before jokingly taking a bow, receiving some scattered applause.
Before long, everyone was allowed to enter the orientation room, they were directed to their seats and given a piece of paper with their picture, their examinee number and the battle center they would be taking their exam in on it.
Exam Ticket
Name: Moxie Usagi
Examinee No.: 7130

Moxie practically hopped to his seat with a spring in his step, just happy to be there. It took him a moment to notice he was sitting next to the girl he had rushed by before.
"Oh, hey! It's you!" He smiled, "Sorry about before."
"I-It's fine…" Hiryu mumbled quietly.
"I'm Moxie, what's your name?"
"Hiryu…"
"That's a nice name! G'luck with the exam!"
"You too, Moxie…"
Hiryu glanced at Moxie a couple times, thrown off by how careless he seemed. She was stressed out of her mind, yet he seemed to be so effortlessly friendly. It boggled her mind, and it didn't help when he mumbled 'Bounce, bounce…' to himself quietly.
Suddenly, all the lights went out, leaving only a single spotlight shining down on the stage, on which suddenly appeared a blonde man with a mustache.
"For all you examinee listeners tuning in, welcome to my show today! Everybody say 'hey'!" Present Mic shouted.
Silence.
"Keeping it mellow, huh?" Sweat dropped the Hero, "Then I'll quickly present you the rundown on the practical exam. Are you ready?"
Silence.
"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this! You can bring whatever you want with you." Present Mic told them, "After the presentation, you'll head to the specified battle center, okay?"
Silence.
"Okay!?" He repeated, a little louder this time.
"Okay!" Moxie pumped his fists in the air. Hiryu sunk as low as she could in her seat, covering her face.
"Ey, there we go!" The presenter gave Moxie a thumbs up, "Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle center" The Pro announced, "You earn points for each of them based on their level of difficulty. Your goal, dear listeners, is to use your quirks to earn points by immobilizing the faux Villains. But attacking other examinees is strictly prohibited! So keep it heroic, you hear?!"
"May I ask a question?" Asked a boy in glasses, standing up with his hand raised in the air.
"Shoot!" The Hero exclaimed.
"You said there are three types of Villains, but on the printout, there are actually four types of Villains." Pointed out the boy, "If that is a misprint, then U.A. the most prominent school in Japan, should be ashamed of such a foolish mistake! We examinees are here in this place because we wish to be molded into exemplary Heroes. In addition… you over there, with the curly hair!"
Moxie and Hiryu turned to see who the boy was pointing at, their eyes finding a scrawny looking boy with curly green hair who seemed shocked to be called out.
"You've been muttering this whole time. It's distracting! If you're here on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately!" He said.
"Sorry…" mumbled the boy.
"Harsh…" Hiryu thought to herself.
"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 7111," Called over Present Mic, "Thanks for the great message. The fourth type of villain is worth zero points. That guy's an obstacle, so to speak. There's one in every battle center, an obstacle that will go crazy in narrow spaces. It's not impossible to defeat, but there's no reason to confront it either. I recommend that you listeners try to avoid it!"
"Thank you very much!" The boy sat down. "Please excuse the interruption."
"No sweat" The Hero waved his hand dismissively.
"If it's worth zero points it's probably best to avoid it…" Hiryu thought aloud.
"It'd probably be a fun fight, though." Moxie pointed out.
"R-Right… that doesn't really matter though…" Hiryu sighed.
"That's all from me!" Declared the blonde Hero, "Finally, I'll give you listeners a present… our school's motto! As the Hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: 'A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes'. Go beyond! Plus Ultra!"
Battle Center C
Most of the group stood in awe at the sheer size and scope of the battle center, it seemed like they had built an entire city just for the exam. Hiryu was one of those people.
"It's massive… it must have cost a ton…" Hiryu thought aloud.
"Too bad we're gonna trash it soon." Moxie stretched his arms, bouncing left and right on the spot.
"Start!" Someone shouted over the speakers.
The examinees stood around for a few seconds, confused by the sudden signal. Well, everyone except for Moxie, who had rocketed off the mark before the announcement was even finished, bouncing from building to building with remarkable speed.
Seeing Moxie take the lead like that stirred the other examinees to action. Hiryu spread her wings and took off, shooting into the air, receiving a few "oohs" and "aahs". She blushed a little bit before flying off to begin the exam.
Hiryu spotted a one-pointer that didn't seem to be occupied and began flying towards it, before a vaguely green and black blur rocketed past her.
Moxie smashed feet first into the one-pointer, crushing it, and wasted no time leaping away again, leaving behind a now defunct pile of scrap. Hiryu shook off the shock and got back to the exam.
Her cheeks puffed up as she flew towards a two-pointer, breathing out a frosty blue mist that froze the two-pointer in place before smashing it with her tail, flying away before the others nearby could counter-attack. She kept up that pattern, pick her target, freeze and smash, then pull away before she could get hurt. It was slow, but reliable.
Moxie, meanwhile, clearly had no plan as he bounced all over the place, smashing robot after robot.
A scream reached his ears and, looking towards its source, he saw a pink-skinned girl being overwhelmed by numbers. She threw two handfuls of acid, melting the nearest robots to her, but struggled to hold them all off.
Bounding off the wall of a nearby building to redirect himself towards her, Moxie ricocheted off a streetlamp and into the head of the leading robot with a devastating kick, smashing it apart.
He bounced off the ground and into another wall, ricocheting back and into another of the robots. After a few seconds of ricocheting like that, he smashed into the ground amongst a littering of scrap, leaving cracks in the pavement. He stumbled a little bit, hopping in place with a quiet "Bounce, bounce…" before writing himself.
"That was epic! Great job, bunny boy!" The girl told him, giving him a thumbs up.
Moxie gave her a cheeky two-fingered salute and leapt back into the air with a whoop, bounding away.
"Fifty-six should be enough…" Hiryu decided, soaring over the battlefield, dodging a few missiles from a three-pointer, which was quickly crushed beneath Moxie's feet.
Moxie leapt into the air, before a mass of green metal smashed through the metal next to him, knocking him from the air.
Hiryu dove towards Moxie, grabbing him under his armpits and lifting him into the air. Thrown off by the weight, she dropped onto the roof of a nearby building, rolling across it.
"Ow…" She mumbled, picking herself up, "A-Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, why?" Moxie sat up, his nose dripping with blood, clearly broken.
"Uh, y-your nose… never mind." Hiryu shook her head.
"That thing's pretty strong!" Moxie laughed, leaping to his feet, "I think we're out of time now, though…"
It took a minute, but the siren did in fact ring out, signaling the end of the exam. Moxie looked up at the zero-pointer as it froze.
"Would've loved to fight that." He nods.
"Y-You're crazy…" Hiryu told him.
"True!" Moxie laughed, leaping off the side of the building and bounding back towards the exit.
And there's the first chapter! Is it my best work? God no. Am I proud of it? Eh, sure.
I've got one other chapter prepared so I guess that'll show up soon.
