Dream Kiss

Why was his body so warm? Was his face red? Did I cause that? I wonder if that's why he ran away so fast. He must have been embarrassed after I got us out of that net, but then why do I get the feeling that he wanted to kiss me for a moment there?

Haruhi was getting ready for bed the night after the class's Halloween event. She was busy brushing her teeth when her thoughts turned to Hikaru and his actions that night.

It's not like I was trying to embarrass him or anything, I just wanted to get us out of there.

Haruhi rinsed her mouth and looked at herself in the mirror.

He made a crack at me saying I had a feminine side.

She turned this way and that, examining herself.

I don't have a feminine side! Sure, I'm a girl, but that doesn't mean anything to me! Hikaru knows that! Why would he even bring it up? Grrr!

Haruhi stamped her foot in a bit of frustration and went around the apartment shutting off all the lights and making sure the door was locked. She climbed into bed ready to fall asleep with one final thought.

What's so great about being a girl anyway?

Then her eyes closed and she fell asleep.

She was running late, something that happened a lot after a full night of studying. She ran up the stairs to the classroom and opened the doors.

"Sorry I'm late sensei! I was just…" she stopped and looked around at the empty room. One lone figure stood in front of the window, his back turned to her.

"Where's the rest of the class? I know I was running late but…" Haruhi started, but stopped when the figure turned around, holding a single rose in his hand.

"Class? What class? There's no one here but us," he said, walking towards her.

"Who, who are you?"

He didn't say anything else, but as he came closer she started to recognize the way he walked, the color of his red hair and the smile on his face. He stopped in front of her and handed her the rose.

"This rose pales in comparison to your beauty, but it's all I can offer."

Haruhi lifted her hand to accept the rose, then noticed that her arm was covered in a yellow sleeve. Then she looked down and saw that she was wearing the Ouran female uniform, a yellow dress with white trim.

"Why am I wearing this? Won't the customers see me?"

She was about to turn around when she felt him step in close to her, stopping her movements.

"You now hold my heart, Haruhi. Take good care of it won't you?"

She looked down and saw her hand holding a human heart instead of a rose.

"Ah! It's a heart! A human heart!" She screamed and released it from her hands.

The heart fell to the ground and exploded into glitter that suddenly filled the room like a fog. The air felt warmer, more inviting than anything. Haruhi looked around and saw she was no longer in the classroom, but a ballroom. She looked down and saw her dress had changed into a silver ball gown with red, pink and white roses sewn in a pattern from shoulder to hip. The fabric was silky smooth and felt great on her skin.

This, this is really pretty, she thought, letting her hands feel the rest of the dress.

She soon felt a body behind her and hands joining hers as they started exploring her waist.

"This is the way I always picture you. In a gown fit for a princess."

Haruhi started to feel hot, like she was getting a fever; but she knew she wasn't sick.

"H-Hikaru. What is this? Where is this coming from?"

"You are a girl, Haruhi. A girl in every way."

He turned her in his arms so they were facing each other. He was wearing a tuxedo and looked amazing. She felt his hand cradle her face and tilt it up.

"If you were a boy, then I couldn't do this," he said before tenderly kissing her.

The kiss shocked her at first, then she closed her eyes and fell into the kiss, enjoying the feel of his lips on hers.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"Hm? Hm? Noise? Ugh! Stop!" She spat, rolling over to turn off the alarm before slumping back into bed. After a moment, Haruhi's eyes shot open and she sat up.

It was a dream!? I kissed Hikaru in a dream!?

She looked around this way and that, making sure she was home, awake and not dreaming. Then she paused and felt her face grow red as her hand drifted up to touch her lips.

I kissed Hikaru in a dream…and liked it.

She heard a sound from outside and knew that her neighbors were also getting up to start their day.

Oh! I guess it's time for me to get up to. I wonder what I'll get on sale at the supermarket today.

Putting the dream out of her mind, Haruhi got up and went through the motions of getting ready for school.

The rest of her day went as her days always did: she arrived at Ouran to the twins teasing and making fun of her while she attempted to study and her answering the teacher's questions when called upon when her other classmates couldn't. She was so caught up in her routine of the day that she didn't even think about the dream again until after school.

Walking to the third music room she saw a couple in the hallway kissing and the sight made her pause.

Huh…wonder what that feels like she thought.

The offhand thought brought her back to the previous night and the dream she had. Haruhi looked ahead and saw the twins walking ahead of her to the club room doors. Her eyes fell on the back of the older twin and immediately felt a blush start creeping up her neck.

It was just a dream! It means nothing! Besides, Hikaru is one of my best friends! He would never…

"Haruhi!? You coming, or what?" Kaoru yelled.

"What's with the confused look on your face? You sick or something?" Hikaru asked, a little concerned but not showing it.

Blinking a few times and shaking her head, Haruhi just waved at her friends.

"Yeah, yeah I'm coming. Just thinking about the sale today at the supermarket," she lied, sweat drop forming on her forehead.

Hikaru and Kaoru looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders and headed into the club room, leaving Haruhi alone in the hallway.

Phew! That was kind of close. I hate lying to them like this, but what could I say? 'Oh it's nothing. Just thinking about a dream I had last night where Hikaru kissed me'? No way! It was just a stupid dream! It means nothing! It is just a stupid dream!

Haruhi was mentally kicking herself as she walked into the club room, not noticing the twins were on each side of the door waiting to pounce once she was through.

Dreams are just that, dreams! They don't mean anything except what you secretly want to happen!

She stopped in her tracks and felt her eyes grow a bit wide.

Wait, what?

At that moment, the twins took this opportunity to wrap themselves around Haruhi in one of their trademark hugs.

"AHHH! No! Not right now, guys! I can't-I can't take you two right now! Especially you Hikaru!"

At the sound of his daughter in need, Tamaki rushed to the trio and started berating them.

"What is this? My daughter doesn't want to be hugged by you two shady twins? Especially you Hikaru? What did you do to her? If you did anything to hurt her I swear I will break every bone in your body!"

"Tono! Tono! Calm down! I didn't do anything to Haruhi!" Hikaru said, letting go of Haruhi, his brother following suit and dropping his arms.

"Then why would she say that? My little girl only says things like that if something happened! So what did you do?!"

"Nothing, boss. I honestly can't remember doing anything to Haruhi. Right Kaoru?"

"Yeah, now that you mention it. We haven't done anything to her lately that would make her act like this."

"Don't talk about me like I'm not here, Kaoru!"

Hikaru, Kaoru and Tamaki looked down at Haruhi for the first time that day. She had the same look on her face that she did after the twins had played their latest prank and she wasn't happy about it. Only this time, they didn't play any prank on her or teased her about something, which made their puzzled looks only deepen.

After Haruhi didn't say anything more, Huni took this moment to walk up to Haruhi and tug the bottom of her jacket.

"Haru-Chan, what's going on? Did something happen between you and Hika-Chan? Why were you yelling just now?"

Seeing Huni helped soften Haruhi's face and she crouched down to Huni's level to talk to him better.

"I guess I'm not feeling very well Huni-Senpai. I think I'm overreacting to something that happened last night. Hikaru didn't do anything wrong and I'll have to apologize for this, ok?"

Haruhi smiled down at Huni and stood back up to face Hikaru.

"Look, I'm sorry for my outburst. It's not your problem, it's mine. I just have a lot on my mind right now and it's really starting to get to me. Forgive me?" She asked, tilting her head to the side wearing her cute, natural smile.

"Ah, Haruhi! We forgive you!" They said and all engulfed her in a group hug.

"If you are all quite done with this show of unnecessary emotion, might I suggest we get ready to greet our guests?" Kyoya said, looking up from his notebook.

"Oh! You are quite right, mommy! Children! Time to greet our guests!"

In the flurry of getting ready for club activities, Hikaru couldn't help but think that small scene with Haruhi meant more than she was letting on.

That was really weird, he thought. Haruhi never lets her emotions show like that in front of us.

Hikaru looked at Kaoru and they both nodded. The 'silent agreement to find out what was really going on with Haruhi after club was over' was set. With that, they positioned themselves for another great day of hosting!

After the last guest left the third music room, Haruhi went to work cleaning the tea sets. She always enjoyed the quiet time following the end of club activities. It gave her a chance to relax and let her troubles float away in the water she used to clean the teapots. Today, however, her quiet time was interrupted by the fact that the twins wouldn't leave her alone.

"Haruhi! Let me help you wash that!" Hikaru said, trying to grab the teapot from her.

"No, Hikaru! You'll break it! The last thing I need is Kyoya adding the price of this teapot on my debt!"

"Kyoya wouldn't do that, would you Kyoya-Senpai?" Kaoru asked, looking over at the older boy.

"Since it is Haruhi's job to clean the tea sets after every club session, I would think anything that happens to them during that time is entirely her fault."

Haruhi looked at Hikaru.

"Like I said, I can handle cleaning the rest of the tea sets without your help, Hikaru!"

"Ok, ok! We'll just go wait for you by the door."

Haruhi blinked a few times before looking at the older Hitachiin twin.

"Ugh! Fine! Do what you want! I have to head to the supermarket today anyway!"

Haruhi quickly finished up the last of the cleaning, grabbed her school bag and stormed out of the third music room, paying no mind to the twins trailing after her.

"Haruhi! Haruhi!," the twins said in unison as they followed her down the hall.

"Get lost!" she yelled back. "I'm not interested in being your toy today, so just get lost!" Haruhi broke into a run.

"No! Haruhi, stop! You're going too fast!" Kaoru yelled.

"Yeah, stop Haruhi! We just want to talk!" Hikaru yelled, getting closer to her. The older Hitachiin twin being a little more athletic than his younger brother.

Crap! I knew this was a bad idea! Hikaru was always better at sports Haruhi thought, rounding the hallway and into an empty classroom on her right.

Maybe if I hide in here, they will give up and leave me alone, Haruhi reasoned to herself as she closed her eyes and willed her body to relax.

"Karou! I lost her!" she heard Hikaru tell his twin. "I'll go look downstairs. You check the library."

"Right!" Kaoru said, as he hurried away.

Haruhi breathed a big sigh of relief as she heard their footsteps retreat. She got up, dusted herself off and opened the door to the classroom she was hiding in, only to be immediately stopped by none other than Hikaru.

Haruhi almost screamed, but Hikaru put his hand over her mouth and backed her up inside the classroom she was just in and locked the door behind them. She felt her body stiffen and grow hot at the feel of his hand over her mouth.

Dammit! I'm even starting to react to his touch! Even like this!

Haruhi's eyes went wide and she tried to remove Hikaru's hand, but he was a bit too strong for her. She started to struggle, but Hikaru wrapped his other arm around her to keep her still. She stopped struggling at the feel of his arm around her as their bodies got closer together.

Why am I reacting like this? He's been close to me before. Only...now...now his body feels so...warm...

"Haruhi, look I don't know what's going on with you, but the last thing any of us needs is for you to scream or struggle and cause someone else to come in here and see us like this, ok?"

Haruhi looked up at Hikaru. In the dim light coming in from the classroom door, she could see he was serious and just nodded her head in agreement.

"Ok, now I'm going to let you go now," he said and released her.

Haruhi immediately backed up and away from Hikaru, already missing the warmth of his body and just took a few calming breaths.

"Now, what was all that about, anyway? All we did was give you a hug and then you went off on us! On me! What gives?" Hikaru asked, studying his best friend as well as he could in the dim light. Was that a trick of the light, or was her face a little redder then before? Something is defiantly off about her.

Haruhi visibly gulped in air and shook her head. "It-It's nothing, Hikaru. Just-Just stress from lack of sleep last night, that's all," she lied, feeling her face get warmer.

Hikaru could tell she was lying, but about what? This didn't make any sense at all. Unless...

"Haruhi, did I do...something last night? At the Halloween event?"

That statement, that innocent statement, made Haruhi turn around and bury her face in her hands. He was right, sort of. It was his actions at the event that got her mind racing, but not in the way he thinks.

Seeing his best friend turn away from him, Hikaru realized he did do something bad.

Oh man! Think! I did do something terrible last night! But what was it?

"Haruhi, look, don't cry. Whatever I did, I didn't mean it," Hikaru said coming up behind Haruhi and placing his hands on her waist.

Little did he know that his position immediately brought Haruhi back to her dream. The one from the night before and she visibly gulped in air.

Oh. My. God! It's just like in my dream! Wake up, Haruhi! He's not really going to-to kiss you!...Right?...

She slowly turned in Hikaru's arms. She lifted her head to meet his gaze and seeing genuine concern in his eyes she felt so sorry she even thought something like a dream could cause so much grief. She softened in his arms and gave a small smile.

"I'm sorry, Hika. You didn't upset me, promise," she said, lifting her hand to up to cup his face. Then something clicked and she felt like she did in her dream. Like this was the most natural thing for her to do, so she used her hand to gently guide Hikaru's face down to her own for the softest kiss she ever gave anyone.

She's kissing me! What?! Is this really happening right now?! Am I...dreaming? Better make sure.

Hikaru tightened his hold on Haruhi and returned the kiss. What started out as a gentle press of lips soon turned more heated and passionate.

You know, for a dream, she feels pretty real...and she tastes really good...

Haruhi thought she was back in her dream.

This can't be real...can it? Hikaru...he's...he's so good at kissing...Haruhi thought, as she let her hands explore Hikaru's body as he did hers.

A little too soon, however, they broke the kiss, gasping for air as they clung to each other more for support than anything else since they both realized they became a little weak in the knees.

"Hika...is this...are you...a dream?" Haruhi asked between gasps of air.

"I...I was going to...ask you the same thing," Hikaru said, breathing hard. "Is this, us...here...a dream, Haruhi?" He asked as he reached out to brush a stray hair away from her face, letting his hand linger there to feel how soft her skin was.

"Maybe we need to kiss again, just to make sure," she replied, nodding and licking her lips. Hikaru looked down at the quick movement and felt his heart sped up.

"I think your right. We need to make sure," he said moving closer to her.

Their lips met in a passionate clash. Soon, they were making out in earnest. Each trying to pull the other one closer, their hands exploring the other's body in an attempt to decipher what was real and what was dream. It all felt pretty real, to the both of them.

When they broke apart again, they were both breathing very heavily, their uniforms wrinkled and their foreheads pressed together.

"If this is a dream, Hikaru, then I don't think I want to wake up."

Hikaru smiled.

"Neither do I, Haruhi."

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Hikaru? Hikaru? Are you in there? I didn't find her in the library!"

They both jumped at the sudden noise and looked to the locked classroom door.

"Oh crap! Kaoru! I forgot I sent him away to look for you!"

KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Hikaru!? Haruhi?! Helloooo!"

"It's fine, Kaoru! Just give us a minute! And stop making all that noise!" Hikaru yelled, turning away from Haruhi so his twin could hear him.

Haruhi was still holding onto Hikaru's arm and their bodies were still pretty close together. Even with the interruption, she couldn't find the strength to let him go just yet.

"Hika..." Haruhi said, bringing the attention of the older twin back in her direction.

"Yeah?" He replied, gently rubbing Haruhi's arm and leaning in closer to her.

"Can we still be in the dream just a few more minutes?"

Hikaru smiled and closed the gap between them.

"I think we can dream kiss a little while longer."

Their mouths met in another slow kiss and for the first time ever, Haruhi was very, very glad that she was a girl.

The End
