Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach. It is property of Tite Kubo.

Author's Note: So if you follow me on Tumblr, you might have seen I asked if there was an Orpheus and Euridyce AU already, but apparently there isn't one, so I decided to write it myself to quench my own craving. I know I haven't written anything in months. I have severe writer's block, and I've tried to write several many things all this time, but I haven't been able to complete anything. I don't know if listening to this musical somehow brought out my creative juices or if the news of the return of the anime spited me enough to get me out of this block, but Imma roll with it hoping I can finish all my other IchiRuki projects.

Now, this particular fanfiction is very different to anything you've seen me write over here before. It is closest to how I write for my original projects. And even though it is a tale, it is not like The Fairest of Them All. It is an adaptation, yes, but more fairytale like than a fanfiction, if that makes any sense. I guess when you read you'll find out what I mean by it. Also, I will post this story on Tumblr when it is completed. Until then, you'll have to read it here.

Hope you like it.

I'm really excited you guys.

See you!

a song of love (from long ago)

Prologue: it's an old song (it's a tragedy)

Long ago, when both gods and men roamed the Earth, a song was heard throughout every corner of the land. High above in the sky and deep within the sea, all creation bustled at the same rhythm. The hearts of humans wept when listening to it, and if the gods had been flesh and blood, they would have felt it in their veins, in their bones.

It is an old tale.

From back when human beings would kneel down and pray, and the gods would listen. And even then, their will was fickle. Meddling and tampering as was their whim.

But when they heard it they became quiet at last, and they became one with the human race.

Nature responded to it, as if searching for the light of sun, and every creature, big and small, would become attuned to it. As if lured by it, they would do its bidding, even transgressing the most ancient of laws.

It is a sad song.

With every pluck of the string, it is said it reduced the Queen of the Underworld to tears. With every crystal tear shed from crystal eyes, little by little flowers started blooming on the cold, hard ground, their beauty contrasting with her husband's somber domain.

A miracle in itself.

Because the King of the Underworld, for the first and only time, bent his most important rule.

It is a tragedy.

Despite every marvel witnessed, if there is one thing that cannot be changed is fate.

And not even the most beautiful song can stop the wheels of destiny from turning.

But, furthermost, it is a song of love from long ago.

A song about a man and a woman.

About a love so strong, it transcended Time and Space.

Even the limits of Life and Death.

Because when Ichigo first met Rukia, he knew deep inside him that, no matter what, nothing would be able to tear them apart.

And so, with every fiber of his being, he began singing─

La la la la la la la

A/N: Parts of this were inspired by lyrics taken from Hadestown, however you don't need to listen to the musical to get it, as it is not an adaptation of the musical but the myth itself, which you don't need to read beforehand either.
